2. CONFIDENTIALITY ISSUES
• In the ULCA hospital, there were more than 120 workers who viewed
celebrities’ medical records.
• Three staff members continued to view a “well-known individual”
after the crackdown at ULCA.
• The state blame ULCA for not taking adequate steps to maintain the
confidentiality of patients.
• The staff that viewed patient medical records were suspended or
given a warning Fox News. (2008).

3. HIPPA TRAINING
• Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) The
Privacy Rule standards address the use and disclosure of individuals’
health information—called “protected health information” by
organizations subject to the Privacy Rule — called “covered entities,”
as well as standards for individuals' privacy rights to understand and
control how their health information is used (hhs.gov).

4. Protected Health Information (PHI)
• Patient Health Information includes :
• Patient Names
• Insurance Information
• Social Security Number
• Demographic Data
• Or any other personal information that can identify a patient
(hhs.gov).

5. BREACH PREVENTION
• Staff would be required to take HIPPA training and tested to make
sure that the information is understood.
• Staff should lock computers when not at their station.
• Staff should discard patient information in shred or lock boxes
• Access to patient information should be limited to staff that are “need
to know”.
• Staff should not discuss patient information out in the open
• Black out screens added to computers to prevent others from viewing
patient charts (hhs.gov).
