Patient Confidentiality Training
• It is sadden that people who are obligated to protect patient information
are responsible for violation of patient confidentiality right. Recent
research indicate 73 percent of physicians exchanged patient
information with other physicians via text messages without knowledge
of how to secure it (Harman L.B, Flite C.A, & Bond K, 2012). More also,
the adoption of electronic medical record can aid the violation of
patient confidentiality right in which employee can now log in and have
access to patient information without being involve in patient care.
According to report public by FOX news, 2008, over 120 UCLA hospital
employee access celebrity medical records without a divine cause. This
made it necessary for all business entity to go back to the board to
initiate ways to improve awareness of privacy rules and regulations to
their employee so as to find a lasting solution.

What are patient information?
• In other to implement policy that will ensure confidentiality or
privacy, employers are obligated to expose employees to what
constitute patient information. Patient information are simply the
name, addresses, medical history, financial information, gender
etc. This information are released to clinicians so that adequate
care can be render.
HIPAA Policy and It Purpose
• Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 HIPAA)
was enacted into law to ensure patient information
confidentiality. Federal government institute standard to which
patient information can be release and mandate all healthcare
entities including their business associate to prevent unauthorized
individual or organizations from gaining access to patient
information so has to promote dignity and respect.

How to prevent violation of HIPAA?
• Healthcare organization are obligated to educate their employee
about Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Continuous education about HIPAA rules and regulation will
enlighten employees. Doing this will ensure depth knowledge of
how to promote confidentiality and ensure patient interest are
well protected all time.
