 Torque is not efficiently expressed owing to
two reasons:
 The area of torque application is small and
depends on the twist effect of a relatively
small wire compared with the bulk of tooth.
 Because full thickness wire will prevent
sliding .019/.025 steel wires in .022 slot are
used. These wires have ‘slop’ of about 100
depending on the tolerances in bracket and
wire manufacturing and the amount of wire
edge ‘rounding’ or ‘radiusing’
