This document compares the banking sectors and financial markets of Italy and Thailand. It finds that Italy has a larger economy and banking sector than Thailand. The top banks in Italy are UniCredit, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, while in Thailand they are Bangkok Bank, Krungthai Bank, and Siam Commercial Bank. Both countries suffered during the global financial crisis but Italy also experienced the Eurozone sovereign debt crisis. Thailand has faced additional economic challenges from political unrest since 2013. The stock markets of both nations are led by companies in the energy, banking and telecommunications industries.
