This document compares the characters of Hester Prynne from The Scarlet Letter and Meera from Hindu mythology. Both women engaged in extramarital affairs - Hester with Dimmesdale and Meera with Krishna. They were seen as "spoiled women" by society and punished for their actions. However, over time both became famous for their spiritual devotion - Hester as the "town's angel" and Meera as the saintly devotee of Krishna. Ultimately the document argues that the situations faced by women are similar across cultures and time periods as human nature remains fundamentally the same.
