• Kanthapura is written by Raja Rao in 1938. 
• Gandhian literature 
• It represent typical Indian village 
• Every Indian village have myth
• In kanthpura Jayramacharya tells the story 
of Ramayana connected with Gandhi. 
• Murhy’s mother tells him the story of 
Ramayana. 
• Comparison of Ramayana’s character with 
Gandhi and his helper.
MYTH OF RAMAYANA IN INDIA 
• In India Ramayana is great mythical story or epic. 
• Everymen believe in Lord Rama. 
• Myth connect with religious. 
• Raja Rao use this epic in Kanthapura.
COMPRESSION OF GANDHI WITH 
RAMA
Gandhi – Shri Ram 
Mother India -Sita 
Britishers - Ravan 
Nehruji - Bharat
• In Ramayana Ravan become thorn in eyes of 
Gods and saints. 
• Same as Britishers are become thorn in eyes of 
Gandhi and Indian people.
• Rama – Ravan battle signifies, the victory of 
good against evil. 
• As same the victory of Gandhi against Britishers.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIGHT OF 
RAMA AND GANDHI 
• Rama fight by the help of bow it means he 
believe in violence. 
• While Gandhi fight by the help of satyagraha it 
means he believe in non-violence.
