Comparatives
• Use comparative adjectives to express the idea of
  ‘’more’’

1. Adjective + er + than for one-syllable adjectives
   If adjectives end in –y, change the –y to –I and add –er
+ than

Examples:
             I lived in Ecuador longer than she did.
             John is happier than David.
Comparatives

2. More + adjective + than for adjectives with two or
more syllables

Example:
            French is more difficult than English.
Comparatives
• Use comparatives to express the idea of ‘’less’’

• Less + adjective + than
Example:
           My friend is less responsible than I am.

• Not as + adjective + as
Example:
            My English is not as good as it used to be.
Comparatives Notes

• There are some irregular comparative forms.
Examples:
             Adjective           Comparative
             bad                 worse
             good                better
             far                 further

• It’s not necessary to mention both parts of the comparison
  when the meaning is clear.
Example:
              I don’t like movies. Books are more interesting.
Equatives

• Use equatives to express the idea of ‘’equal’’

 As+ adjective + as
Example:
            My hair is as long as my sister’s.

• You can also compare two things that are not equal
Example:
             My house isn’t as big as your house.
