They produced their own version of the Bible: The New World
Translation.
 Their own Bible was first published in serial
form and as a single volume in 1961.
The New World Translation has been printed in whole or in
part in more than 60 languages, with a total printing of
more than 145,000,000 copies!
HISTORY OF THE JEHOVAH WITNESSES
 Began as a “Bible Study” led by
Charles Taze Russell in Allegheny,
Pennsylvania (USA) in 1870.
 Officially organized in 1884 as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society with Russell as the
President.
 Russell came from a wealthy family, was a member of
the Presbyterian Church, was a businessman and writer.
 He began the group in 1884.
 He was not trained in theology or biblical studies.
 His religious ideas were presented in his six volume
work: Studies in the Scriptures.
 Many of his ideas were changed by later leaders.
 After Russell’s death there was a power vacuum which the clever
“Judge” Joseph Rutherford was able to fill by outmaneuvering his
competitors to become the President of the Watchtower Society.
 The results, however, were splits into various groups with the
Watchtower Society being the largest.
 Rutherford renamed his group Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1931.
 Most of the theology and principles were formulated by Rutherford,
including the “door to door” witnessing, and the publication of the
AWAKE! magazine.
 He financed the organization and his lifestyle through the distribution
and selling of a vast amounts of literature and the “voluntary” labor of
his followers
 Separated from his wife and appeard to have problems with alcohol
“Jehovah's Living Organization.”

What Do They NOT Believe?
What Do They NOT Believe?
Do not pursue higher education. There is very little time left! Make pioneer service, the full-time
ministry with the possibility of Bethel or missionary service, your goal.
Watchtower 15th March 1969 p171
“In view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of
things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous… Many young brothers and sisters
were offered scholarships or employment that promised fine pay. However, they
turned them down and put spiritual interests first.“ Kingdom Ministry; June 1969, p. 3
No Jehovah's Witness should want to go to college. Rather, work in the Watchtower
Organization!

Holy Spirit Association for
the Unification of World
Christianity
The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity was organized
in 1954 in Seoul, South Korea by Rev. Sun Myung Moon ["One who has clarified
the Truth"].
Its followers are often called Moonies by persons outside of the Association.
However, this term is considered derogatory by its members, who refer to
themselves as Unificationists.
The doctrinal beliefs of the
UC are a complicated
mixture of eastern
philosophy, Christian and
biblical terminology, and
the many bizarre notions
and interpretations of Rev.
Moon.
The primary tenets of
official UC teaching are The
Divine Principle and Master
Speaks, a collection of
Moon's sermons.
The Blessing or mass wedding ceremony is the most important
Unification ritual. Rev. Moon matches up each couple a month (or less)
in advance, selecting from among the membership. Sometimes, they
first meet on the day of their wedding
Unification Church Beliefs
While many of the beliefs of the Unification Church are identical to those of other
conservative Christian groups, there are some major differences:
 They view God as a single being with "perfect intellect, emotion and will". They
reject the traditional Christian concept of the Trinity. God contains within himself
positive (male) and negative (female) aspects, which are in perfect harmony with
each other.
 The Holy Spirit is the feminine counterpart to God. She is not a person, but is a
form of energy that is derived from God.
Unification Church Beliefs
 Before Adam and Eve's were married in Eden, Eve had an affair with the
Archangel Lucifer. This caused the spiritual fall of mankind. She later engaged in
an pre-marital sexual relationship with Adam. This caused the physical fall of
mankind. Together, these illicit sexuality caused them to form an imperfect
family. Their sin led to Satan taking control of the world.
 The church links Communism (the expression of Satan) with Cain and Democracy
(the expression of God) with Abel.
 Jesus Christ is viewed as a unique human being who was born without original
sin. After his crucifixion, he was spiritually resurrected. His body was taken by
angels to an unknown location.
Unification Church Beliefs
 God's original intent was for Jesus Christ to form a perfect marriage in order to
redeem humanity, and undo the harm perpetrated by Adam and Eve. Since Jesus
was executed before accomplishing his mission, it will be up to a third Adam in
the present day to form this perfect marriage and complete Jesus' task.
 By his spiritual resurrection, Jesus has made possible spiritual salvation for
persons who accept him as savior and believe in his message. They will, after
death, live with Jesus in Paradise. However, because Jesus did not complete his
original task, physical salvation is not possible on earth during one's lifetime.
Complete salvation (spiritual and physical) awaits the arrival of the third Adam
and his subsequent perfect marriage.
Unification Church Beliefs
 St. Paul is viewed as the originator of Christianity. Through his expertise, he is
viewed as having converted the teachings of Jesus concerning the kingdom of
God into a formal religion about Jesus.
 Hell exists on earth. Over time, Hell will be transformed into the kingdom of
heaven on earth. Hell exists in the spiritual world as well, as an extension of life
for those of us who live in hell on earth.
 One of the main purposes of the Unification Church is to unite all of the
fragments of Christianity into a single body.
Unification Church Beliefs
 They believe that the third Adam was born in Korea between 1917 and 1930.
(The first Adam was the individual described in Genesis; the second Adam is
Jesus). The third Adam will be recognized as second coming of Christ, the perfect
man. He will marry the perfect woman, and will become the "true spiritual
parents of humankind". Many members of the Unification Church regard Rev.
Moon and his second (and current) wife Hak Ja Han as these parents.
 Rev. Moon believes himself to be the person to finish the task left uncompleted
by Jesus. The Devine Principle states that the Messiah must be born physically
on earth in order to accomplish man’s physical salvation. To his followers, Rev.
Moon is the Messiah

  • 7. HISTORY OF THE JEHOVAH WITNESSES  Began as a “Bible Study” led by Charles Taze Russell in Allegheny, Pennsylvania (USA) in 1870.  Officially organized in 1884 as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society with Russell as the President.
  • 8.  Russell came from a wealthy family, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, was a businessman and writer.  He began the group in 1884.  He was not trained in theology or biblical studies.  His religious ideas were presented in his six volume work: Studies in the Scriptures.  Many of his ideas were changed by later leaders.
  • 9.  After Russell’s death there was a power vacuum which the clever “Judge” Joseph Rutherford was able to fill by outmaneuvering his competitors to become the President of the Watchtower Society.  The results, however, were splits into various groups with the Watchtower Society being the largest.  Rutherford renamed his group Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1931.  Most of the theology and principles were formulated by Rutherford, including the “door to door” witnessing, and the publication of the AWAKE! magazine.  He financed the organization and his lifestyle through the distribution and selling of a vast amounts of literature and the “voluntary” labor of his followers  Separated from his wife and appeard to have problems with alcohol

Watchtower 15th March 1969 p171 “In view of the short time left, a decision to pursue a career in this system of things is not only unwise but extremely dangerous… Many young brothers and sisters were offered scholarships or employment that promised fine pay. However, they turned them down and put spiritual interests first.“ Kingdom Ministry; June 1969, p. 3 No Jehovah's Witness should want to go to college. Rather, work in the Watchtower Organization! Watchtower 1st September 1975 p543

  • 18. Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity
  • 19. The Holy Spirit Association for the Unification of World Christianity was organized in 1954 in Seoul, South Korea by Rev. Sun Myung Moon ["One who has clarified the Truth"]. Its followers are often called Moonies by persons outside of the Association. However, this term is considered derogatory by its members, who refer to themselves as Unificationists.
  • 20. The doctrinal beliefs of the UC are a complicated mixture of eastern philosophy, Christian and biblical terminology, and the many bizarre notions and interpretations of Rev. Moon. The primary tenets of official UC teaching are The Divine Principle and Master Speaks, a collection of Moon's sermons.
  • 21. The Blessing or mass wedding ceremony is the most important Unification ritual. Rev. Moon matches up each couple a month (or less) in advance, selecting from among the membership. Sometimes, they first meet on the day of their wedding
  • 22. Unification Church Beliefs While many of the beliefs of the Unification Church are identical to those of other conservative Christian groups, there are some major differences:  They view God as a single being with "perfect intellect, emotion and will". They reject the traditional Christian concept of the Trinity. God contains within himself positive (male) and negative (female) aspects, which are in perfect harmony with each other.  The Holy Spirit is the feminine counterpart to God. She is not a person, but is a form of energy that is derived from God.
  • 23. Unification Church Beliefs  Before Adam and Eve's were married in Eden, Eve had an affair with the Archangel Lucifer. This caused the spiritual fall of mankind. She later engaged in an pre-marital sexual relationship with Adam. This caused the physical fall of mankind. Together, these illicit sexuality caused them to form an imperfect family. Their sin led to Satan taking control of the world.  The church links Communism (the expression of Satan) with Cain and Democracy (the expression of God) with Abel.  Jesus Christ is viewed as a unique human being who was born without original sin. After his crucifixion, he was spiritually resurrected. His body was taken by angels to an unknown location.
  • 24. Unification Church Beliefs  God's original intent was for Jesus Christ to form a perfect marriage in order to redeem humanity, and undo the harm perpetrated by Adam and Eve. Since Jesus was executed before accomplishing his mission, it will be up to a third Adam in the present day to form this perfect marriage and complete Jesus' task.  By his spiritual resurrection, Jesus has made possible spiritual salvation for persons who accept him as savior and believe in his message. They will, after death, live with Jesus in Paradise. However, because Jesus did not complete his original task, physical salvation is not possible on earth during one's lifetime. Complete salvation (spiritual and physical) awaits the arrival of the third Adam and his subsequent perfect marriage.
  • 25. Unification Church Beliefs  St. Paul is viewed as the originator of Christianity. Through his expertise, he is viewed as having converted the teachings of Jesus concerning the kingdom of God into a formal religion about Jesus.  Hell exists on earth. Over time, Hell will be transformed into the kingdom of heaven on earth. Hell exists in the spiritual world as well, as an extension of life for those of us who live in hell on earth.  One of the main purposes of the Unification Church is to unite all of the fragments of Christianity into a single body.
  • 26. Unification Church Beliefs  They believe that the third Adam was born in Korea between 1917 and 1930. (The first Adam was the individual described in Genesis; the second Adam is Jesus). The third Adam will be recognized as second coming of Christ, the perfect man. He will marry the perfect woman, and will become the "true spiritual parents of humankind". Many members of the Unification Church regard Rev. Moon and his second (and current) wife Hak Ja Han as these parents.  Rev. Moon believes himself to be the person to finish the task left uncompleted by Jesus. The Devine Principle states that the Messiah must be born physically on earth in order to accomplish man’s physical salvation. To his followers, Rev. Moon is the Messiah
