The document provides information about the origins and beliefs of Theosophy. It was founded in the late 19th century on the idea of a universal wisdom or divine knowledge found in all religions. Theosophy teaches that all religions have an essential spiritual unity and share the same transcendent truth, though expressed through different beliefs and practices. It believes in reincarnation and spiritual evolution of the soul through cycles of rebirth. Theosophy seeks to find the common threads of wisdom across faiths and philosophies.

This document discusses various perspectives on spiritual warfare and the role of exorcists. It notes that Catholic leaders attribute the rise in reports of demonic possession to people dabbling in occult activities like witchcraft, visiting psychics, or playing with Ouija boards. The document outlines that exorcists are priests specially authorized by bishops to perform exorcisms using the Roman Ritual of Exorcism. It also discusses deliverance ministers who may use prayers of liberation but not major exorcisms. The document explores beliefs in animism and paganism as well as issues around folk Catholicism, syncretism, and spiritual contamination.
Overcoming Limitations of "Naturalism Without Religion"Paul H. Carr
Tillich’s existential and Whitehead’s process theologies overcome the limitations of “naturalism without religion.”
Tillich, Wildman, Whitehead, and Bracken update the Bible’s promise of eternal life as well as the meaning and goal of history. Tillich’s description of religion as the Dimension of Depth resonates with Goodenough’s "Sacred Depths of Nature."
For Whitehead, the goal of the Universe is the production of beauty.
“The thirst for beauty that permeates our lives is an opening to transcendence,” according to theologian Philip Hefner.
- Exorcism is the practice of evicting demons or spiritual entities believed to possess a person or place. It involves rituals and invoking God or other religious figures to cause the entity to depart.
- Exorcism is practiced in Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. In Christianity, Catholic priests perform formal exorcisms invoking Jesus Christ. In Hinduism, mantras and fire sacrifices are used. In Islam, Quran verses are recited by sheikhs.
- While some believe in demonic possession, science views exorcism as a misdiagnosis of mental illnesses like schizophrenia. Exorcisms have led to abuse and death in some cases when medical treatment was denied.

The document discusses the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from three perspectives - as a biological miracle, psychological miracle, or theological miracle. It argues that the biological and psychological miracle explanations fail due to historical and medical evidence. Specifically, the Romans were experts at crucifixion and ensured Jesus died, and multiple people witnessed his appearances over 40 days in various circumstances. Therefore, the best explanation as supported by historians is that God performed the theological miracle of raising Jesus from the dead, as the foundational event of Christianity.
This document discusses rethinking the theology of powers in communicating Christianity in Taiwan's animistic context. It begins by providing background on the author's own upbringing in animism in Taiwan. It then discusses Christianity's historical attitude towards animism in Taiwan, initially ignoring it but now recognizing its influence. The main points are: 1) Animism pervades Taiwanese culture and worldview through practices like ancestor worship and spirit possession. 2) A Christian theology of powers is needed to understand and confront the spiritual elements of folk religion. 3) Animism sees the world as ruled by unseen powers while Christianity believes God conquers powers through Christ. Developing a theology of powers could help Christianity better engage animism.
This document discusses the history and importance of the health message in the Adventist church. It traces the origins of the health reform message from visions received by Ellen White in 1863 instructing the establishment of health institutions. The Western Health Reform Institute (later Battle Creek Sanitarium) was opened in 1866. The document outlines biblical support for the health message and principles of diet, exercise, lifestyle, and their connection to spiritual growth and effectiveness in ministry. It emphasizes that health reform was meant to be an integral part of spreading the gospel message to all nations.

The document summarizes reasons for being a Christian rather than a member of various other religions or belief systems, including Scientology, Satanism, and Wicca. It provides background on the origins and beliefs of each, highlighting differences from Christianity. Scientology believes in reincarnation and auditing to deal with past traumas, while Christianity teaches humanity is sinful and in need of salvation through Jesus. Satanism founded by Anton LaVey encourages selfish desires, unlike Christianity which sees some desires as sin. Wicca traces to Gerald Gardner and incorporates magic and nature worship, rejecting the Bible and any exclusive truth claims, unlike Christianity's doctrinal faith.

Top 3 Things Teens Need to Know About the Paranormal (Special Report)Aileen Santos
Right now, the #CharlieCharlieChallenge is making the waves among teens worldwide, and seems like a fun, harmless thing to try (and post about on your wall).
But is it really harmless?
While the Physics of it is simple (the pencil movements can certainly be caused by our collective breathing, the same way the Ouija board works on tiny tremors caused by our constantly-moving muscles), the point of 'what's moving it" really isn't the issue.
The more important issue is this: "What are we giving permission to influence us when we play games like this?"
This report might help.
Dr. John Oakes taught on Calvinism–its history, basic theology and reasons to reject its basic tenets–in Manila Jan 23, 2016. The notes and power point are included.
http://evidenceforchristianity.org/answering-calvinism/
This chapter lays a biblical and theological foundation for understanding the Lord's Table and its importance for unity. It discusses how God created humanity with the need for sustaining food to live in communion with their Creator. The fall disrupted this perfect unity and communion, separating humanity from God. To remedy this, God became incarnate in Jesus Christ, who gave himself as the "bread of heaven" to the church for its sustenance. Partaking in the Lord's Table restores believers' unity with God and each other, undoing the effects of the fall. The chapter explores the theological significance of these concepts to explain how a proper understanding of the Lord's Table should lead Christians to unity in God's kingdom.
The document summarizes the key ecumenical councils that defined the nature of Christ:
1) The Council of Nicaea affirmed Christ's full divinity against Arianism.
2) The First Council of Constantinople affirmed Christ's full humanity against Apollinarianism.
3) The Council of Ephesus affirmed the personal union of Christ's divine and human natures against Nestorianism.
4) The Council of Chalcedon affirmed Christ exists as one person with two natures, divine and human, against Eutychian Monophysitism.
This document discusses the reality and dangers of evil and the devil in the modern world. It provides perspectives from several Catholic popes and experts that emphasize the need to fight against evil and Satan. The devil's influence is described as a constant battle, with Christianity facing its final confrontation against anti-Christian forces. The document also discusses the rise of occult activity and demonic possessions, highlighting the need for exorcisms. It examines some causes of extraordinary demonic attack, such as sin, trauma, psychic abilities, and occultism. Specific occult practices in the Philippines are also outlined. The anatomy of possession and dangers of syncretism in inculturation are explored.
03-Evidences is it reasonable morals religionAntonio Bernard
The document discusses whether it is reasonable to believe in God in this scientific age and examines potential explanations for morality, conscience, and spirituality. It argues that science cannot fully explain the origin of the universe, life, morality, or spirituality. While naturalistic explanations like evolution have been proposed, they fail to adequately account for these phenomena. The document asserts that belief in God provides the most reasonable foundation for objective moral values and duties. It contends the Bible demonstrates reliability, accuracy, fulfilled prophecy, wisdom, and durability, demanding a divine origin.

Christian Apologetics: Answering the Hard Questions: Notes and Power Pointevidenceforchristianity
Here are 3 key passages that show Jesus is fully God:
1. Jesus is called God. In Hebrews 1:8, God says to the Son, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever."
2. Jesus possesses the divine attributes. In John 1:1-3, Jesus is identified as the eternal Word who was with God in the beginning and through whom all things were created. This shows Jesus shares in God's divine nature and attributes.
3. Jesus claims full equality with God. In John 10:30, Jesus declares, "I and the Father are one." His Jewish opponents understood this as a claim to full deity, which is why they tried to stone Him for bl
The document discusses various philosophical and theological ideas related to faith, reason, salvation, and the relationship between religion and government. It references ideas from Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Greek philosophy, and figures like Thomas Jefferson. The key debates centered around how to reconcile faith and reason, whether religious doctrines should be interpreted metaphorically or literally, and whether concepts like salvation and justice are best grounded in religious doctrines or philosophical reasoning.

This document discusses the biblical concepts of life and death. It explains that the Bible refers to two types of death: physical death, which is the end of the physical body, and spiritual death, which is a state of being separated from God's love and dominion. It provides examples from Jesus and other biblical texts to support this dual meaning. The document also discusses the concept of resurrection in relation to spiritual progression after death and cooperation between the physical and spiritual realms.
Walter brown-murray-what-is-the-true-christian-religion-new-age-press-1947Francis Batt
The document discusses the true explanation of Christianity and redemption according to the author's perspective.
1) The first objective of Jesus' coming was to release mankind from captivity to hells and evil beings by assuming a human nature to approach and fight against devils without destroying them.
2) The second objective was to reveal God to man by manifesting the otherwise invisible God through assuming a human form on the plane of nature.
3) The third objective was to provide a pattern of perfect humanity for all people to follow by example, living a life of complete obedience to God's will and love for others.

The document discusses different Christian views on ordinances or sacraments. It addresses the Roman Catholic view of seven sacraments and the Protestant rejection of additional sacraments beyond baptism and communion. It also considers views that there are no ordinances or only one (communion). Regarding baptism and communion, it notes disagreements over subjects, modes, efficacy and the nature of communion (memorial vs transubstantiation). Protestants generally see the ordinances as symbols of grace rather than conduits of grace.
This document discusses several concepts from pastoral care, including:
1) It describes patients sharing painful stories with chaplains about abuse, mental illness, and a desire for justice from God.
2) It discusses seeing a person as a "living human document" or "living human web" and understanding their experiences from multiple dimensions.
3) It explores the challenges caregivers may face in listening empathetically without becoming detached, and how exercising courage to enter another's suffering is important in pastoral care.

- Ambrose was an influential bishop of Milan who stood up to emperors to assert the independence of the Church. Augustine was a theologian who wrote Confessions and City of God and helped develop the theology of grace and original sin. Leo the Great helped increase the influence of the papacy, establishing the Bishop of Rome as the preeminent bishop and defining the Pope's role as the "Supreme Pontiff".
This document discusses the relationship between Christianity and Judaism. While Christianity developed from Judaism, believing Jesus to be the Messiah, Judaism does not accept Jesus as divine. Both religions share a belief in one God and draw from the same core texts of the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament. They also have some similar practices and rituals. Overall, the document examines how Christianity originated from and was influenced by Judaism as an earlier monotheistic faith, while also developing some distinct beliefs about the nature of Jesus.
This document provides an overview and summary of John A. Rush's book "The Mushroom in Christian Art". The book analyzes symbols and themes in Christian artworks from 200 CE to present, arguing that mushrooms and references to entheogenic experiences are prevalent. Rush believes this indicates that early Christians understood Jesus as representing the mystical experience induced by ingesting psychedelic plants and fungi, rather than an actual historical person. The book examines how Christian doctrines and art evolved over time to depict Jesus as human while concealing the true nature of early Christian sacraments involving entheogenic substances.

PROGRESSIVE CHRISTIANITY FROM LIBERAL CATHOLIC AND UNITARIAN PERSPECTIVESDr Ian Ellis-Jones
Copyright Ian Ellis-Jones 2006 - All Rights Reserved - Article Published in Communion (The Magazine of The Liberal Catholic Church in Australia), Vol 25, No 3, Michaelmas 2006.
The document defines and describes several key Christian concepts and terms:
- Original Sin refers to humanity's fallen state resulting from Adam and Eve's rebellion in the Garden of Eden.
- The Trinity refers to the Christian belief in one God existing as three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Baptism is a Christian rite of purification through water that welcomes one into the church.
- The Sabbath, observed on Saturday, is a day of rest and worship commanded by God.
- Judas Iscariot was the apostle who betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
- Crucifixion refers to Jesus' torture and execution by being nailed to a cross.
This document discusses several topics related to spirituality and religion including the existence of God, spirits and their survival after death, reincarnation, and the multitude of inhabited worlds. It also mentions the communicability of spirits and concludes with a quote stating that science without religion is lame and religion without science is blind.
The document discusses the benefits of exercise for mental health. Regular physical activity can help reduce anxiety and depression and improve mood and cognitive functioning. Exercise causes chemical changes in the brain that may help protect against mental illness and improve symptoms.
This document discusses hypnosis and how it can be used for both good and evil purposes. It notes that hypnosis has been used for thousands of years in various contexts like healing and entertainment. However, it also asserts that hypnosis is an effective tool for mind control and manipulation, particularly through mass media like television and politicians' speeches which can hypnotize large groups of people through repetition. It claims hypnosis techniques are used to deceptively influence crowds and control behavior.
Edgar Cayce was known as one of America's greatest psychics. He would go into a trance and appear to access a higher level of consciousness to provide medical readings and insights. Cayce left over 30,000 transcripts of readings. Today, thousands of followers study Cayce through books and centers around the world that are part of his organization.
The Family is a high-demand faith group that requires significant commitment from members and emphasizes loyalty to the group over family ties. They combine Christian beliefs with practices like communal living and free love. New members were expected to cut ties with family, donate possessions, and become full-time evangelists. The group's founder took multiple wives and encouraged "flirty fishing" to convert men. They diverge from mainstream Christian beliefs on salvation and the afterlife.
The document discusses the occult, which involves studying hidden or secret knowledge. It covers various occult practices like divination, spirit contact, altered states of consciousness, and manipulating energies. Common occult beliefs include monism, pantheism, polytheism, and that there are no absolute truths. Astrology, which dates back thousands of years, is analyzed in terms of its methodology and why some believe it works despite scientific studies finding no correlation. The history and methodology of the black mass ceremony, which parodies the Catholic mass, is also outlined.
The document provides a history of Mormonism and critiques some of its core doctrines and historical claims. It describes how Joseph Smith claimed to receive visions leading to the founding of Mormonism. It summarizes Smith's translation of the Book of Mormon from golden plates and the establishment of the Mormon church. The document then analyzes some problematic aspects of Mormon theology from a biblical perspective and raises issues with archaeological evidence for the Book of Mormon and Smith's translation of the Book of Abraham. It ultimately concludes that Joseph Smith was a false prophet and Mormonism teaches false revelations that do not align with the Bible.
The Unification Church was founded in 1954 in South Korea by Sun Myung Moon. It believes that God is both male and female and that humanity's fall originated from Eve's pre-marital relations. It teaches that Jesus was unable to complete his mission and a third Adam is needed to achieve full salvation. The Unification Church sees Rev. Moon as this third Adam and the Messiah, and he leads mass wedding ceremonies to unite his followers.
This document discusses some key beliefs and practices of Sikhism. It outlines the five symbols, or "K's," that identify Sikhs, including uncut hair and wearing a turban. It notes prohibitions such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating halal meat. The document also discusses the role of women in Sikhism and mentions Sikhs living in the United States. Additionally, it covers the three types of miseries in life according to Sikhism and recommends practices like chanting mantras and meditation to overcome them. Finally, it discusses the importance of chanting the names of God across major religions.
Zoroastrianism is one of the world's oldest monotheistic religions. It was founded by Zarathustra, a Persian prophet who lived between 1500-1000 BCE. Zoroastrians worship the one God Ahura Mazda and believe in an eternal cosmic dualism between good and evil. They believe in life after death and that souls will ultimately be judged based on their deeds. Modern Zoroastrians still practice their faith today, with many living as Parsis in India. Their holy book is called the Avesta and includes the original teachings of Zarathustra.
The document provides an overview of key principles in Jainism. It states that Jainism teaches that there is no creator or supreme being controlling the universe, which runs automatically based on principles like time and karma. It also discusses the concepts of karma and reincarnation in Jainism, and that the goal is to be free of karma through renunciation and non-violence, in order to achieve moksha or liberation. The document outlines the three pillars of right faith, right knowledge, and right conduct that constitute the path to liberation in Jainism.
Karl Marx was a German philosopher and economist in the 19th century who is considered the founder of modern communism. He published two major works, The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital, where he predicted that the poor would inevitably start a global revolution against the rich to establish permanent worldwide communism. The video link provides an explanation of Marx's concepts of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis and the meaning of existentialism.
Crisis counseling ii chapter 13 - stress and type aGlen Christie
This document discusses four types of stress: general adaptation syndrome, causes of stress, symptoms of stress, and personality. It provides lists of specific significant life events, physical symptoms, short term symptoms, long term symptoms, mental symptoms, and behavioral symptoms of stress. It also discusses Freud's, Jung's, Kubler-Ross's, Frankl's, and Maslow's theories on personality and stress. Finally, it briefly mentions type A behavior, codependent personality, and helpless-hopeless personality as stress-prone personalities.
Crisis counseling ii chapter 12 - life transitionsGlen Christie
Transitions are inevitable parts of life that can be anticipated, like marriage, or unanticipated, like job loss. There are typically three phases to a transition: endings, a neutral zone, and new beginnings. Transitions affect people in many ways, including emotionally, physically, and in their relationships and roles. While change can be difficult and resisted due to fear, flexibility, acceptance, and maintaining a sense of control over one's thoughts are important for coping well with life's transitions.
Crisis counseling ii chapter 8 - death and dyingGlen Christie
This document discusses loss, grief, dying, and death. It provides definitions of key terms and describes the historical overview of how losses can be actual or perceived. The stages of loss and dying are outlined, including denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. The stages of grief are also explained. Signs of unresolved or dysfunctional grief are listed. The duration of grief is discussed, noting that equilibrium may take months while pursuing new relationships could take 6-12 months. Mourning and bereavement are defined. Finally, phenomenology of grief such as social withdrawal and restitution are mentioned.
Crisis counseling ii chapter 13 - stress and type aGlen Christie
This document discusses four types of stress: general adaptation syndrome, causes of stress, symptoms of stress, and personality. It describes general adaptation syndrome as having three stages: alarm, resistance, and exhaustion. Causes of stress include organizational stressors and significant life events like death, marriage, or job changes. Physical, mental, and behavioral symptoms of stress are outlined for both short and long term. The document also discusses different personality theories related to stress from Freud, Jung, Kubler-Ross, Frankl, and Maslow, as well as stress-prone personalities like Type A behavior and codependency.
Crisis counseling ii chapter 12 - life transitionsGlen Christie
Transitions are inevitable parts of life that can be anticipated, like marriage, or unanticipated, like job loss. The document discusses a transitions model involving how a situation, one's self, supports, and strategies affect coping. It defines transitions as endings, neutral zones, and new beginnings. Many types of personal, family, career, and other transitions are discussed. Effective coping involves acceptance, flexibility, control of one's thoughts, and developing skills like listening and maintaining relationships. The conclusions emphasize that while bodies decay, souls and minds can develop eternally in heaven or hell depending on a relationship with Christ.

Crisis counseling ii chapter 11 - adolescent in crisisGlen Christie
This document discusses adolescent development, identity formation, body image, and common issues teenagers face such as depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, and self-harm. It notes that around ages 11-12, adolescents develop advanced abstract thinking abilities and experience a "Copernican revolution" in how they view themselves. Identity is formed through differentiation and integration of concepts, or through substitution of one identity for another. Body image, self-esteem, and comparing oneself to peers can impact mental health and relationships. The document outlines risk factors, signs, and types of depression, substance abuse disorders, eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia, and self-harm behaviors in teenagers.

It identifies several common causes of divorce like poor communication, infidelity, money problems, addictions, mid-life crises, sexual issues, and lack of commitment between partners. It also outlines the stages of divorce from the initial emotional separation to accepting the new normal post-divorce. Finally, it provides tips for divorcing successfully such as mediating instead of litigating, co-parenting with the ex-spouse, and taking time to heal from the divorce.
How to Fix the Import Error in the Odoo 17Celine George
An import error occurs when a program fails to import a module or library, disrupting its execution. In languages like Python, this issue arises when the specified module cannot be found or accessed, hindering the program's functionality. Resolving import errors is crucial for maintaining smooth software operation and uninterrupted development processes.
Assessment and Planning in Educational technology.pptxKavitha Krishnan
In an education system, it is understood that assessment is only for the students, but on the other hand, the Assessment of teachers is also an important aspect of the education system that ensures teachers are providing high-quality instruction to students. The assessment process can be used to provide feedback and support for professional development, to inform decisions about teacher retention or promotion, or to evaluate teacher effectiveness for accountability purposes.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. The Church of Christ, Scientist
a.k.a.
Christian Science
3. The founding and pillar church in Boston serves as
headquarters and is governed by a Board of Directors.
All other churches are considered branches of the "Mother
Church."
Instead of preachers, Christian Science uses readers who read
prescribed passages from the Bible followed by an
interpretive reading from Science and Health.
Christian Science utilizes "practitioners" who pray for the sick.
Eddy believed in "Malicious Animal Magnetism" (M.A.M.),
which is negative mental energy or power, on the level of black
magic.
"Reading Rooms" are local Christian Science libraries where
members go to read Eddy's works to aid their spiritual
evolvement.
Organizational Structure
4. 1821: Mary Baker Eddy born in Bow, NH to devout Christians. She joined a
Congregational church at age 17. She was chronically sick with
paralysis, hysteria, seizures, and convulsions.
1850's: During this time she met mental healer P. P. Quimby, whose
influence would shape her belief of Christian Science. Quimby
believed that illness and disease could be cured through positive
thoughts and healthy attitudes, by changing one's beliefs about the
illness. She claimed that Quimby cured her; she suddenly
improved, but later the symptoms returned.
1866: Death of Quimby. Eddy was determined to carry on his work.
1882: One 50-member church
1908: The Christian Science Monitor newspaper started
Christian Science History
5. Christian Science History
1910: Death of Mary Baker Eddy
1932: 2,466 churches and 350,000
members
1972: 3,200 churches
1993: 150,000 members
During the early 1990’s, the church began to experience decline due to
several factors. There have been numerous well publicized criminal and
civil lawsuits brought against Christian Scientist parents who allowed
their children to die of curable diseases by neglecting medical treatment
in favor of "spiritual healing." There are significant and complicated
issues raised over the right to exercise religious beliefs free of
governmental infringement, versus the state's "compelling interest" in
protecting seriously ill minors from neglect.
6. Christian Science History
In 1992, there began a controversy when it was discovered "that the
church had secretly transferred $46.5 million from endowments and
pension funds to help cover huge losses on the Monitor [TV] Channel,"
which had lost over $325 million.
Additionally, there were losses of $36 million and the resulting termination
of World Monitor, a newspaper begun in 1988. The Christian Science
Monitor is said to be losing $13 million annually.
More internal controversy occurred in 1993. A book, The Destiny of the
Mother Church, written by a former President of the Mother Church, Bliss
Knapp, was published and promoted by the church's board in return for the
Knapp family estate bequest of $98 million. Knapp, who was a church
leader and close friend of Mrs. Eddy, wrote that Mrs. Eddy was the
fulfillment of the coming of the Holy Spirit foretold in John 16, the literal
manifestation of God and the prophesied second-coming of Christ.
Moreover he claimed that these teachings were affirmed by Mrs. Eddy
herself. Though put forward by the official publishing arm of the church,
this teaching is considered heresy by many in the church.
7. Christian Science Beliefs
"The theory of three persons in one God suggests polytheism, rather
than the one ever-present I Am“. "Life, Truth, and Love constitutes the
triune Person called God….God the Father-Mother; Christ the spiritual
idea of sonship; divine Science or the Holy Comforter“
Christian Science denies that Jesus Christ is God incarnate. It denies
that Jesus is one Person with two natures — fully God and fully man.
Christian Science presents Jesus
Christ in terms of a Gnostic duality:
"The Christ is incorporeal, spiritual…"
while, "The corporeal [physical] man
Jesus was human" only. So what
Christian Science actually concludes
is that the physical humanity of Jesus
was an illusion, "as it seemed to mortal view"
8. Christian Science Beliefs
Christian Science teaches that since God is all good and nothing that is
real exists outside God, then sin, sickness, and death are mortal error or
an illusion. Christ, as the Truth, therefore came to set man free from
these false beliefs by His teachings and example.
"The Virgin-mother conceived this idea of God, and gave to her ideal the
name of Jesus.... Jesus is the name of the man who, more than all other
men, has presented Christ, the true idea of God.... Jesus is the human
man, and Christ is the divine idea; hence the duality of Jesus the Christ,"
"Christ, or the spiritual idea, appeared to human consciousness as the
man Jesus," "The spiritual Christ was infallible; Jesus, as material
manhood, was not Christ.“
9. Christian Science Beliefs
"Jesus taught the way of Life by demonstration. There is but one way to
heaven, harmony, and Christ in Divine Science shows us this way."
"Universal salvation rests on progression and probation…. No final
judgment awaits mortals…"
Christian Science denies the penal, substitutionary atonement of Christ
saying, "The material blood of Jesus was no more efficacious to cleanse
from sin when it was shed on 'the accursed tree,' than when it was
flowing in his veins as he went daily about his Father's business.“
"Final deliverance from error,... is not reached... by pinning one's faith
without works to another's vicarious effort.“
"In Christian Science it is plain that God removes the punishment for
sin only as the sin is removed... hence the hope of universal salvation.
... To lose the sense of sin we must first detect the claim of sin; hold it
invalid... sin disappears, and its unreality is proven."
10. Christian Science Beliefs
It is obvious that if Jesus never physically
died on the cross to atone for sins that
mankind cannot commit, then the
resurrection must also have a unique
meaning in Christian Science.
Eddy explains, "When Jesus reproduced his body after its burial, he
revealed the myth or material falsity of evil; its powerlessness to
destroy good and the omnipotence of the Mind that knows this: he also
showed forth the error of nothingness of supposed life in matter, and
the great somethingness of the good we possess, which is of Spirit,
and immortal." Jesus resurrection was thus the manifestation of the
error of evil. He demonstrated that sin and death are illusions and that if
one wishes to rid themselves of these illusions, they only need to deny
their reality.
I’m
sorry,
my
friend,
you’ve
had it
wrong all
along !
11. Christian Science Beliefs
Jesus, you must understand, possessed the Christ consciousness
as do all men to a lesser extent, went to the cross, not to bring about
forgiveness of sin, for sin is an illusion, but rather to demonstrate that
death is an illusion. On the morning of the resurrection, the
supposed physical body of Jesus was reproduced in its original
illusionary form, for all matter is illusion, and thereby demonstrated to
mankind that all could do the same by denying the reality of sin and
death.
Jesus' "seeming" death on the cross was not intended to pay for our
sins, but to prove the unreality of sin, disease, and death. The Bible
is full of mistakes. Jesus' words were recorded by "dull disciples ... in
a decaying language," and must be
spiritually interpreted through Christian Science.
Dear friend,
let me clear up
your confusion !
12. Christian Science Beliefs
Sickness and disease are illusory, the product of a false belief, and not an actual
result of sin. "The cause of all so-called disease is mental, a mortal fear, a
mistaken belief…"
No true Christian Science member
should ever go to a doctor, hospital,
or take any kind of medicine, for to
do so is to deny "Divine Science."
Whereas the Christian Science approach to healing may help psychosomatic
illnesses, it has been scientifically demonstrated that it is not effective with real
illness. Studies comparing the cumulative death rates of practicing Christian
Scientists with control groups have shown significantly higher death rates among
the Christian Scientists
More ridiculous
sacrilegious
propaganda !
13. Overview
Christian Scientists believe:
Eddy received the Truth through divine revelation
rejection of the Trinity
distinction between "Jesus" and "Christ"
Holy Spirit is not a personal being, but is Divine Science
spirit is real and eternal; matter is unreal and temporal
sin and sickness do not exist
rejection of doctors and medicine
man is not material, but spiritual
no final judgment for mankind
hell is not a real place
sin is an illusion
Jesus did not raise from the dead
14. Conclusion
Christian Scientists believe that Mary Baker Eddy received the Truth through
divine revelation. The fact is that she plagiarized much of what she wrote from
metaphysician George Hegel (Karl Marx was a avid follower of Hegelian
philosophy), P.P. Quimby, Francis Lieber and others.
Christian Science is
neither Christian nor
Science. It is a
dangerous cult that
has cost the lives of
many in this world,
and led many more
people away from
eternal life.
16. Unity School of Christianity
Unity School of Christianity, also
known as Unity (with
headquarters on a 1,400-acre
campus in Unity Village, Missouri
-- near Lee's Summit, Missouri, a
suburb of Kansas City), was
"founded" in 1889 In 1948, the
control of Unity was assumed by
the Fillmore's two sons, Lowell
and W. Rickert Fillmore, and has
since experienced tremendous
growth. Unity currently claims
about 200,000 U.S. members and
1.5 million members worldwide.
17. Unity School of Christianity
Unity's roots are to be found in the
ministry of Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer,
who practiced what was called "animal
magnetism." His work involved
manipulating the “subconscience"
mind, and he was the first modern
user of hypnotism (hence, the term "mesmerism").
Spiritualism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Brahmanism, Rosicrucianism,
Theosophy, New Thought, Christian Science, and other Mind
Science religions, believing that there was some good in every
religion the Fillmores studied. Charles Fillmore chose the ancient
Egyptian winged disc, an occult symbol, as the symbol to
represent Unity (He believed he was the reincarnation of the
Apostle Paul!)
18. Unity School of Christianity
Today the "school" is a centralized group with
churches in many areas. They distribute
millions of pieces of literature a year.
Unity's doctrines are a mish-mash of
borrowed teachings from different
religions and philosophies -- Hinduism,
Spiritism, Theosophy, Christian Science,
and Christianity.
Unity has no dogmatic statement of faith
to which the people must adhere. Instead,
the follower is to "accept what he finds
helpful to lift his consciousness to a higher
level."
19. Highlights of What Unity Believes
Trinity: Unity has given a metaphysical meaning to the word
"trinity"; they say the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit refer to
"mind, idea, and expression." They teach the New
Age/Pantheistic idea that God is All and All is God.
God: Under the heading "spirit," Unity's Metaphysical Bible
Dictionary states, “God is the name we give to that
unchangeable, inexorable principle at the source of all
existence. To the individual God takes on personality, but as
the creative underlying cause of all things, He is principle,
impersonal; as expressed in each individual, He becomes a
personal, loving, all-forgiving Father-Mother"
20. Highlights of What Unity Believes
Jesus Christ: Unity claims that Jesus was merely a perfect man
who fully possessed the Christ principle, which He obtained by
advancing "through many reincarnations" They believe that we
can do anything Jesus did, in effect raising mankind to the level of
the divine, and making us equal with Jesus Christ.
Unity believes in the Second Coming of Christ, not in the flesh, but
as the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit to all who are prepared to
receive it. The Holy Spirit is a latent power within every man. This,
they believe, is the fulfillment of the promise of Jesus to his
disciples .
Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit in Divine Mind corresponds to our
thought in our minds. So we can ideate the unlimited Divine Mind,
but when this Mind is brought into our world or consciousness it is
limited to our conception of it"
21. Highlights of What Unity Believes
Sin and Salvation: Unity denies the reality of sin and evil.
They do not recognize man as being sinful or in need of
salvation, because they believe that every person is part of
God.
They teach that we can overcome weaknesses and mistakes
through wisdom and right thinking, not by a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ.
They teach that the atonement is the reconciliation of our
minds with the Divine Mind.
"Salvation is finally attained when the cycle of rebirth is
broken and man comes to birth no more. The true spiritual
body is to replace the physical body and the man becomes
like Christ. For Unity, then, salvation and true religious
growth are "do-it-yourself projects"
22. Highlights of What Unity Believes
Hell: With the Unity concept of the power of positive thinking,
there is no talk about sin, and therefore, no eternal hell and no
eternal punishment. They deny that hell is a real place, but
claim that both heaven and hell are "states of mind," not
geographical locations, that people experience as a result of
their thoughts, words, and deeds.
Sickness: Unity claims that pain, sickness, old age, and death
are not real. Instead, they teach a process of healing that uses
"denial" and mental power: "Unity believes in the creative
power of thoughts and words. We can have neither good nor ill
unless we think and speak it into manifestation.
23. Highlights of What Unity Believes
Finally…….
Reincarnation: Unity goes a step beyond Christian Science in
its teaching of "transmigration of souls."
Unity believes in reincarnation, i.e., that through a long
process of rebirths we eventually reach perfection and
immortality.
They claim that God never intended for man to die, but that
reincarnation was His merciful provision.
They teach that once we reach perfection, we become part of
the "Divine Mind," an eternal state of peace and tranquility.
24. In summary…..
All religions represent an essential truth in the story of God’s existence
and our part in His plans for mankind.
26. The Unity of the CosmosTheos= gods, the divine
Sophia= wisdom,
knowledge
Theosophy = Divine Wisdom
At a general level, Theosophy is
not merely the embracing of Indian
religions, but a mixture of
Platonic/Neo-Platonic philosophy
with Hindu and Buddhist theories
of karma and re-incarnation.
27. The Essential Unity of Religions
Spirituality or the transcendent
consciousness is a common heritage of all
humankind. It is beyond labels and dogmas.
It is an experience. It is the heart of true
religious experience. From it emanates
genuine love and compassion.
The growing appreciation
of the spiritual, as
opposed to the doctrinal,
is the long term key to
religious harmony. It is
the source of true unity
29. All religions have at least three levels: the
ceremonial level; the dogma level; and
the spiritual level. The spiritual level is
the real heart of a religion. The other two
layers, ceremonies and beliefs, can
change through the centuries but
spirituality is essentially unchanged.
People whose understanding of religion
is basically on the first two levels may
become intolerant of other sects or
religions. Wars have been waged due to
disagreements on these levels.
People whose religious life is on the third
or spiritual level do not feel threatened
by other religions. They see the essential
identity of the different religions on this
level.
Levels of Religions
30. Countless wise people have probed into
the mysteries of life. They come from
various cultures and time periods.
Many have found the answers. They
solved the riddles of existence. They
found the key to inner peace and
realization.
The wisdom that they have taught
have been called many names. But the
labels do not really matter. It is an
Ageless Wisdom
Since time immemorial
. . .
32. The Wisdom is
beyond sects or
organized
religions.
Wisdom about
life and the
universe applies
to all human
beings,
regardless of
religion,
nationality, sex or
race.
33. Unfortunately, we
do not learn it in
school. Instead we
are educated in
order to meet the
expectations of
society, such as
raising a family,
having financial
security, having a
good job, etc.
34. In 1875, a group of
great teachers,
keepers of the
Wisdom, decided to
reintroduce it to the
world under the
name of
Theosophy.
It gave again the
ageless principles
that were lost to the
public, especially in
the West
35. This gave birth to
the Theosophical
Society, founded
by Helena
Blavatsky
36. 1) To form the nucleus of a Universal Brotherhood of Humanity without
distinction of race, colour, or creed
2) To promote the study of Aryan and other Scriptures, of the World’s Religion
and sciences, and to vindicate the importance of old Asiatic literature, namely
of the Brahmanical, Buddhist, and Zoroastrian philosophies
3) To investigate the hidden mysteries of Nature under every aspect possible, and
the psychic and spiritual powers latent in man especially
