Editor's Notes

  1. ASUSTEK Computer Inc. is principally engaged in the manufacture and distribution of computers, communication products and consumer electronics (3C). The Company provides desktop motherboards, server motherboards, three-dimension graphic display cards, audio cards, notebook computers, smart navigation mobile phones, liquid crystal display (LCD) monitors, broadband and communication products, as well as servers, among others. Best known for its massive motherboard production. During the year ended December 31, 2009, the Company produced approximately 22 million motherboards and 6.8 million notebook computers. It offers its products under the brand named ASUS. The Company distributes its products primarily in the United States, Canada, Asia, Europe and Africa.
  2. Cash on Hand $2.82 BDebt $826 MRevenue $19.07 BAsset $11.57 BProfit $390.1 MEmployees 113,324As you can see on the graph, there is a tremendous decline, about 25% down over the previous month, in December 2011, however Asus still consolidated revenue 1.01 billion dollars. Despite the slight decline in the fourth quarter of 2011, Asus created a new record on revenues in 2011 with 12 billion dollars. And you can also notice that they recovered pretty fast in the first quarter of 2012 because of their new marketing strategy. Now Asus has four retailed partners, which are Best Buy, Office Depot, Walmart and Staples to complete their shipment in the United States. And they also introduced two new products, which are a new tablet transformer prime and a new phone Padfone and I will give you more information later.
  3. TH Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, and MT Liao founded ASUS in 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan – all four founders worked as computer engineers for Acer. In January 2007, ASUS started restructuring its operations. The company split into three distinct operational units: ASUS, Pegatron and the Unihan Corporation. The ASUS brand was applied solely to first-party branded computers. Pegatron handled OEM manufacturing of motherboards and components, and the Unihan Corporation focused on non-PC manufacturing such as cases and molding. In January 2008, Pegatron acquired the Unihan Corporation as a subsidiary from Asus. In the process of restructuring, the highly criticized pension-plan restructuring effectively zeroed out the existing pension balances. The company paid out all contributions previously made by employees. The first Eee PC was a milestone in the personal computer business, launching the netbook category of small, low cost laptops. netbooks omitted certain features (e.g., the optical drive), featured smaller screens and keyboards, and offered reduced computing power when compared to a full-sized laptop. The major target audience are the people who have the need to deal with email or some easy function and do not want to carry laptop around. After eee pc first launched, it was sold over 300,000 units in four months. However, it is soon encountered failure due to its lack of functionality, the raising of facebook flash games, hd videos and the release of ipad.
  4. Powered by the world's first quad-core mobile processor NVIDIA® Tegra® 3, the Eee Pad Transformer Prime perfectly balances high performance and low power consumption. You can browse the web and play 1080p HD video at blazing speeds. The snappier response time and better multi-tasking performance make the Transformer Prime a true mobile entertainment powerhouse. The new Eee Pad Transformer Prime is mind-blowingly slim and light weight and with a beautiful metallic spun finished design. In fact, it is the slimmest tablet on the market yet, only 0.33" thin and 1.29lbs light. Along with being ultra-portable, you get long-lasting mobility with the Eee Pad Transformer Prime tablet that offers up to 12 hours of battery life - ideal for both long trips or day-to-day errands.
  5. The ASUS PadFone is an incredible 4.3" smartphone featuring a Super AMOLED qHD display, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 1.5Ghz dual core processor and an ultra-sharp 8 megapixel digital camera, all wrapped in an exquisite design optimized for AndroidTM 4.0. When placed inside the optional PadFone Station, it transforms into a 10.1" tablet with five times the battery life. The PadFone offers supreme versatility via Dynamic Display technology, which allows seamless transition between PadFone and PadFone Station screens. In addition, the PadFone Station offers an optional keyboard dock that essentially turns the PadFone into a full notebook PC. The PadFone also comes with the optional PadFone Stylus Headset, which is a Bluetooth stylus pen that turns into a headset for easy call pick-up
  6. Passion for TechnologyTechnology is the heart of ASUS. We continue to invest in our world-class Research and Development so that we are always able to provide leading-edge innovations to people and businesses.Focus on QualityQuality is of utmost importance to ASUS. We continue to refine our quality management processes to ensure customers receive the highest quality solutions cost-effectively.Long-term RelationshipsWhether they are our customers, the media, shareholders or consumers, we believe in growing with our partners at all levels. Maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders is one of the most important factors of our continued success.PerseveranceAll ASUS employees share the same sense of purpose. We thrive under pressure and look forward to challenges. We work to accomplish the same mission—to empower people with innovative IT solutions.
  7. LENOVO/IBM    7.3%  TOSHIBA    10.3%    APPLE    11.0%ASUS    3.8%HP/COMPAQ    23.2%DELL    22.6%ACER    8.2%Asus has dropped to 4th place from 2nd place on the Computer Reliability Reports 2012 while Lenovo still remains on the 1st place. Although its market share has raised 8% in the United States, its computer repair rate also raised 1.76%. I will say Gigabyte may very well be the best motherboard brand out there. Gigabyte motherboards have received consistent, above average to high ratings from all major computer supply sites. Overall customer satisfaction for Gigabyte boards is positive. Obviously not every review is this positive, but for the most part, Gigabyte has had a solid customer satisfaction rate. They are also top notch when it comes to keeping up with new technologiesEVGA is a computer parts manufacturer that focuses mainly on motherboards and graphics cards. Like Asus and Gigabyte, EVGA is another company that has received some great reviews from consumers. EVGA does not offer the wide selection of boards that Asus and Gigabyte do. However, the boards that they do produce are top notch. One little known fact about Intel is that they don't just make CPUs and processors. They also sell motherboards. Intel has the least variety for motherboards, and selection is limited. However, their motherboards are top quality, and receive positive reviews from customers the majority of the time. Intel manufacturers regular motherboards aimed at basic computer builds, and Intel Extreme series motherboards, designed for high-end gaming builds
