3. Overview of the community
1. The village Mallavolu is located in Guduru Mandal of Krishna District in the State of
Andhra Pradesh in India. It is governed by Mallavolu Gram Panchayat. It comes under
Guduru Community Development Block. The nearest town is Machilipatnam, which is
about 13 kilometers away from Mallavolu.
2. Total area of Mallavolu is 2556 Hectares as per the data available for the year 2009.
3. The village is connected by public bus services. Private buses services are available
for the village. There is a railway station more than 10 kms away from the village.

5. INTRODUCTION TO HORTICULTURE
Horticulture is the art, science and practice of growing and
maintaining plants in different types of environment. • It involves
the propagation, cultivation and processing of fruits, vegetables,
herbs, spices, ornamental plants and flowers.
6. Types of horticulture:
Pomology (Fruit culture):
The branch of horticulture, concerned with the production, harvesting,
processing, preservation, storage and marketing of
fruits and nuts. Fruits are of different types. Succulent and juicy: grapes,
oranges, mango, pineapple.Hard and dry type: walnut, cashew nut.
Olericulture (Vegetable culture) :
The science and practice of growing, handling, storing, processing and
marketing of vegetables
Floriculture :
The science and practice of growing, handling, storing, processing and
marketing of flowers. It is commercial cultivation of flowering
plants for economically important flowers. Growing of jasmines, rose,
chrysanthemum.
Example: roses, daffodils tulip, carnation, chrysanthemum, orchid, anthurium.
7. Arboriculture :
It is the cultivation, management, and study of individual trees, shrubs. Turf culture and
management includes all aspects of the production and maintenance of turf grass for sports
or leisure use
Ornamental and Landscape Horticulture :
The art of designing gardens, establishing lawns, installing plants and placing ornaments in
the landscape.
Ornamental plants fall under two main groups, namely
(1) Herbaceous ornamentals
(2) Woody ornamentals
Both these may be again divided into flowering ornamentals and non -flowering
ornamentals.

Result
According to our survey we identify various problems faced by the farmers .and
also find out solutions for their problems by using various technologies and other
management techniques in horticulture. For resolving the problems in
horticulture.
Conclusion
Hence we conclude that horticulture plays a crucial role in various sectors like
food system , agriculture etc.. in our daily life. By using different technologies
and also various management techniques improves the production of the crops.
This leads to more income to farmers . This methods will reduce the complexity
of their tasks makes more easy and more efficient. It leads to develop the field
of horticulture more effectively in our country.
