What are communities of practice? How can they help drive productivity and improve organizational performance? What are the key success factors?
In this guide I will examine what CoPs are and how they have come about, as well as their role in learning and development today, and in driving organizational success. Furthermore, drawing on my experience at Cegos I will provide guidance on some of the key factors for setting up successful and sustainable CoPs in Asia.

Beyond functional silos with communities of practiceDennis Stevens
Explore the concept of communities of practice and how they are a vital component for agile organizations. From providing tactical support in issue resolution, to being stewards of knowledge across vast enterprises, and even helping create support for the larger organizational change, communities of practice are a vital component in improving organizational agility.
As an international non-profit organization we believe in collective leadership skills for sustainability and the capacity to dialogue – for jointly created solutions across sectors, institutions, nations and cultures. We globally support leaders and change agents in private companies, public institutions and civil society who anchor their action in the concern for the greater good and the future of humankind on this planet.
With tens of thousands of employees, the Crédit Agricole Group places human beings and innovation at the core of its concerns.
The MIKE Club (for Management, Innovation, Knowledge Management, and E-learning), launched in 2011, connects all Group employees involved in innovative techniques in order to study new technologies that might have a real impact on our profession.
While maintaining a critical stance, we searched for the most relevant emerging applications to provide all employees with tools for grasping, understanding and adapting to the ongoing digital revolution.
This was originally an internal approach, but Crédit Agricole decided to share its view of innovation and collaborative processes in training, as well as its analysis and thoughts, with as many people as possible. That is why we decided to launch a series of white papers, called “HR Expertise”, that will shed light on a number of topics including collaborative work and serious games
This publication focuses on communities of practice and how they are used in a corporate context. True, this collaborative working method has key advantages and is an effective force for motivation, but we must never lose sight of the fundamental educational principles that make it so relevant both to the company and to the employees taking part.
We hope you will find this document useful.

Virtual Communities of Practice: Enabling Peer-based Distance LearningKristina Schneider
I presented on the subject of Virtual Communities of Practice: Enabling Peer-based Distance Learning at the Canadian Association for Distance Education (CADE) conference in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Presen tation Summary
Virtual communities of practice are environments in which individuals with similar interests can learn from one another at a distance. Learners in this case are not limited to their local peers but are able to interact and learn from those who have similar experiences elsewhere. This type of virtual community requires design and planning in order to ensure that communication flows between its participants.
We nger, McDermott and Snyder (2002) define a community of practice as "groups of people who share a concern, a set of problems or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis".

The state of play for L&D across the Asia Pacific Region. Survey completed by Learners and Learning Professionals - the most positive survey in 4 years
Understanding the growing trend for Informal learning, this paper goes further to investigate some current best practices and suggest tips and next steps for driving a more "formalised" approach for Informal Learning in your organisation.
This paper focuses on the current skills shortages across the Asia Pacific Region from work-ready Graduate intake to Talent within companies and the ongoing development of Managers and the Future Leadership pipeline. There is no doubt that the continuing economic growth, the accelerating need for Talented Managers and Teams within organisations (e.g. China's biggest stated talent gap) and a more globalised workplace are factors that should make this Region buoyant with Talent. There is no doubt that there are academically sound potential employees but the biggest gap evident is the crucial difference between academic know how and intelligence with the practical know how and common sense often needed in today's diverse workplace. Its open for debate! please read the paper and let me know your thoughts. Please fill out a contact form if you would like to download this paper.
This paper takes a look at the increasing implementation and use of technology enabled learning. Since my first paper on the topic a couple of years ago there have been developments and some great examples of organisations driving great multi-modal learning initiatives combining the technology side with a strong human touch....read on...
Leading and managing in the 2020 workplace challenges for gen x leaders in wa...Cegos Asia Pacific Pte Ltd
This new joint research paper delivered by Cegos Asia Pacific, Temasek Polytechnic and the Singapore Training and Development Assoc highlights the leadership and managerial challenges in the 2020 workplace - with special attention on Gen X'ers who are leaders-in-waiting. The research was carried out in Singapore and has inputs from across SE Asia.
There is much talk about Generation Y and that is fair enough! That said, we felt a focus on Generation X was needed as the changes in the workplace over the next 5-7 years will be enormous when you consider: The iGen joining the workforce, an Ageing population continuing to contribute to organisational success, the increasing integration and use of technologies at work and within learning, the multicultural and often remote working environment and much more.
Some key outputs here for developing the leadership and management skill-sets in this increasingly cross generational and multi-dimensional workplace.
A new paper from Cegos created with our Partners in Australia TP3 to update our thinking around blended learning and offer some best practices from our joint experiences.
Our new survey on the latest Training and Development trends from Europe. We will be conducting the second APAC survey later this year to inform 2014 learning strategies.
My new paper considers the ever changing generational mix in the workplace and how to maximize people development to impact organizational growth in this environment - whatever the generation!

With increasing globalisation, the need is greater than ever to have Leaders and Managers who are equipped with skills and cultural awareness to deal with the environment effectively - particularly when you consider remote teams are more common than ever. This paper starts the debate and provides some food for though.
Cegos is heavily involved in philanthropic activities around the world, centred around education and learning. This paper explores some of the new trends, including the rise of small and medium sized organisations contributions in this area. At a time when parts of the world need help the most, it is good see so many organisations doing there bit....

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

In the Adani-Hindenburg case, what is SEBI investigating.pptxAdani case
Adani SEBI investigation revealed that the latter had sought information from five foreign jurisdictions concerning the holdings of the firm’s foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) in relation to the alleged violations of the MPS Regulations. Nevertheless, the economic interest of the twelve FPIs based in tax haven jurisdictions still needs to be determined. The Adani Group firms classed these FPIs as public shareholders. According to Hindenburg, FPIs were used to get around regulatory standards.
