2. The Future
• Looking back on where we came from with communication technology it is
truly amazing just to see how far we have came. Ten years from now, things
will be a lot different and it is exciting to see how technology will change
with the future.

3. Internet Speeds
• We have already seen increased internet speeds in the
past. With 3g, to 4g, and now LTE. In the future there
will continue to be increased internet speeds. We are
already seeing fiber optic internet being tested and
installed and continually increased internet will be what
we see in the future ten years down the road.
• Increased internet could greatly change the way we
communicate as we are already seeing that it is extremely
easy to communicate, this will just greatly enhance our
communication rates.

4. Critical Mass Theory
• According to the Critical Mass Theory, for fiber optics to be widely
implanted across the states, the necessity of wireless internet at rapid speeds
would have to be accepted extensively across the social system. Without this
sufficient number of persons accepting the need for fiber optics, it would
not be adopted. Although, I believe that with the rapid increase in a desire
for instant internet there would be no hesitation towards funding fiber optics
among a large population.

5. Augmented Reality
• In the future this could be a real possibility through
glasses or contacts or certain lenses that allow you
to be viewing the world through a lens that gives
you real time information about what you are
looking at.
• For example like putting on Augmented Reality
Glasses and then going to a restaurant, as you stand
outside the glasses will show reviews and other
information as you are looking it.
• This could extremely influence how we
communicate because it will allow information to
be learned and received on the go without have to
stop and search for what you wish to know.

6. Rodger’s Diffusion of Innovations
• Everett Rodgers developed this theory to explain why new technologies
spread at certain rates. He breaks it down into four main elements,
innovation itself, communication channels, time, and the social system.
• In the case of Augmented Reality, according to Rodgers, it would have to be
widely accepted in order to sustain in future markets.

7. Virtual Presence
• With applications like Facetime, and
Skype people can communicate almost
face to face with a screen as a barrier.
As this technology continues to
develop we will see Virtual Presence. It
would be like facetime except the
person would be a hologram of sorts
like a 3d scan of the person. If you
have seen Star Wars this is what Virtual
Presence would be like.

8. Moore’s Innovation Adoption Rate
• Geoffry Moore developed this theory to help explain that the acceptance of
a new innovation is a sociological model. This model is pictured using the
bell curve in which the first people to use a product are called the
”innovators” and following is the “early adaptors” Then follows early
majority and then late majority and finally the “laggards”.
• In the case of Virtual Presence this would an innovation to perfectly fit this
model. It would be first used and tested by a few people then over time it
would take off and everyone would be using this technology.
