The librarians at Messiah College partnered with campus stakeholders to assist with assessment efforts. They conducted two projects: [1] A syllabi analysis to provide data on library resource usage to administrators; [2] A library assignment analysis where they collected assignment descriptions from faculty to understand resource needs. These projects increased the librarians' visibility and established them as stakeholders in campus assessment.

Assessment data can be collected from a multitude of sources from within and outside your library. It’s not just about the size of collections, or number of reference transactions, or hours a library is open. This presentation will review some of the key places assessment information can be gathered and provide strategies to creatively think about assessment data collection for your library.
Presentation by Jan Maxwell (Ohio University Library, Assistant Dean, Collections & Access) as part of a program called "Common(s) Wisdom: Designing Graduate and Faculty Spaces that Work". Program was hosted by LLAMA - BES at the ALA Annual 2010 conference.
If you build it, will they come? Does the concept of a separate "Research" or "Scholarly" Commons meet identified needs? Is there a sure-fire mix of research and teaching support spaces guaranteed to meet the demands of this vital (and vocal) group? What are the challenges in designing and living in these facilities? Learn how two libraries are enhancing the scholar’s experience. Come away with proven ideas to use in your own library.

Library Assessment Toolkit & Dashboard Scoping Research Final Report and Path...Megan Hurst
Athenaeum21 is pleased to announce the public release of “Library Assessment Toolkit & Dashboard Scoping Research Final Report and Path Forward." The report is the culmination of a six-month research project in collaboration with the University Library of the University of California, Davis; the Bodleian Libraries of the University of Oxford; and the Staats und Universitätsbibliothek, Göttingen, Germany. The research project examined how libraries currently assess their resources and services, and areas of opportunity to streamline and visualize library performance through a common and customizable set of key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboard modules. The research team interviewed library assessment leaders and practitioners across diverse institutions and geographies, and reviewed the current landscape of technology, tools, and services addressing their needs.

The report concludes that "the majority of library managers approach assessment and evaluation in an ad hoc and reactive manner as questions arise. Managers spend valuable time manually collecting, cleaning, and normalizing data from diverse systems, and then perform one-time or static interpretations. The library managers that we interviewed during our research felt that the availability of a toolkit and dashboard could free them to probe and interpret more data, think more strategically, and develop more meaningful questions about measuring and evaluating library performance. While the scoping research focused on the performance of research libraries, the proposed toolkit and dashboard framework could be adopted and customized by any type of library, including smaller college and university libraries, community college libraries, and public libraries. Institutionalizing the project through sponsorship by an appropriate body or syndicate of libraries would help assure its extensibility nationally and internationally."
Presented by Chuck Hughes and Megan Lowe, University of Louisiana at Monroe
Word has spread around the state about ULM's conversion to a primary digital library model. In pursuit of that project, the Library is undertaking an aggressive weed: the collection is being reduced by half. This presentation will describe the deselection project, its intentions, faculty involvement, adjustments made for faculty involvement, associated challenges with the project, lessons learned from those challenges, and how we plan to move forward in the next year - the second year of a two-year project. It will make recommendations/identify best practices for similar deselection and/or digital projects in the future.
Overview of C-SAP open educational resources projectCSAPOER
This presentation showcases, discusses and reflects upon the work of the C-SAP "Open Educational Resources" project. Our project, "Evaluating the Practice of Opening up Resources for Learning and Teaching in the Social Sciences", was part of a pilot programme (funded by the HEA and JISC), which sought to explore issues around the sharing of educational material from a disciplinary perspective. Whilst exploring, with our academic project partners, the principles and issues around releasing educational material (institutional, contractual, administrative), we have also sought to develop some insights into the processes of sharing practice, and look forward to discussing the findings in this forum.
This worksheet is used to help students search PubMed with advanced search strategies. Students must complete the worksheet as part of a larger research project. The worksheet is graded by the librarian.
PA Library Association Poster Session: Not Just Another Assignment: Partnerin...Beth Transue
This poster describes a project to redesign information literacy for undergraduate nursing curriculum. The liaison librarian partnered with nursing faculty and developed a graded assignment to assess information literacy skills. The librarian graded the assignment and provided feedback to students and faculty. Outcomes showed increased information literacy skills and increased student consultation with the librarian.
43. One dean suggested creating a form that faculty could fill out in lieu of submitting written assignment directions (librarians created forms for each department – see Appendix below for example).
44. September 2009, Deans asked department chairs to send the request for assignment information to their faculty (for AY 2010)
45. About half of the departments submitted assignments by spring 2010
55. Will use data to demonstrate use (or not) of library resources for class assignments
56. Will provide liaison librarians with a good picture of what their department faculty are assigning – possible opportunity for discussion of information literacy and collection development
