1. Below is a summary of the surveying elements I have carried out not necessarily
identified on my CV
Cala Homes (Following sponsorship by them on my degree) I was a project manager
responsible for several developments in a normal surveying role but also had to act
for Cala finance in taking on recovery of developments that had been funded by Cala
but failed. These varied between 10 and 52 units and required placing and
management of contracts/subcontracts in value between £50k and £7.5m to allow
completion and recovery of funding. Several sites were worked on with the land
department for viability and land purchase exercises. I was responsible for all
surveying and construction matters. All monthly reporting was carried and we had
the use of the most efficient surveying software packages.
Rialto Homes I was senior surveyor on a £50m build, luxury development in London
(127 apartments plus leisure facilities) which included deep basement and high rise
RC frame. During the process the superstructure structural design failed requiring the
appointment of a new engineer, respective major insurance claim. The concrete frame
contractor was already contracted and as such required on the spot daily re-measures
with release of information, renegotiating and approval of new works to maintain
production. These had to be approved by not only the insurers but also the JV
representatives (Gardiner and Theobold). Production was maintained with express
rebar deliveries and final account maintained. All other subcontract appointments
were placed in line with programme requirements. Client variations to some units
exceeded £250k and hence had to manage these with a dedicated team. There was
also the normal monthly reports/CVR etc.
Barratt Homes there were 2 projects. One was high rise development (£25m build)
whereby I had to manage the consultants and main contractor to agree the main
shell and core works. During initial works I managed to negotiate for the fit out of all
apartments with some nominated suppliers and sub-contractors and then went on to
approve subsequent applications, variations and payments together with all reporting
and CVR requirements.
There was also the associated management of all consultants.
In addition I managed a luxury development of 9 high end units with a build value of
£15m with all respective surveying duties and full control of on-site construction.
The Commercial director at Cala Homes became the MD at Barretts and so worked
with him over 5 years.
2. Taylor Wimpey I managed the project in Newport with a £60m main contract
negotiated from competitive tender with Taylor Woodrow. This involved managing
the appointed consultants for both the commercial and technical sides of the
contract.working closely I also had to work closely with the internal surveyors on the
domestic build as these were non standard apartments. The project had major civil
works including a flood defence on the second highest tidal range in the world and
deep excavations through existing major structures requiring remeasuring and
payments etc. This also involved the management of all consultants and associated
consortium members including government.
Later on I worked again with Taylor Wimpey as a PM but in more of a construction
and design role on a difficult consortium regeneration project, this being the 3rd
term with them exceeding 5 years in total with them.
Whilst in Dubai and Oman there was a heavy involvement in the contract/surveying
side including negotiations with the banks to secure the funding facility on a £200m
construction project.
Most recently at Penguin, was responsible for negotiating and confirming variation,
extension of time, loss and adjustment, valuations, contesting payless notice, change
orders/notices.
