6. TYPES OF RAILWAYS COACHES
Mainly used in Indian railways coaches
1. ICF Coach
2. LHB coach
7. ICF COACH
Integral Coach Factory ( ICF COACH)
The Integral Coach Factory is located in Chennai.
Max. Speed of coach – 130km/h
Noise level 100 decibels

Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches
that have been developed by Linke-Hofmann-Busch of

9. AIR BREAKING SYSTEM
Brake: A brake is a device by means of which artificial
frictional resistance is applied to a moving machine member,
in order to retard or stop the motion of a machine.
Air Brake System: Brakes applied with the help of air are
called Air Brakes and the system actuated to apply this
phenomenon is known as Air Brake System.
10. CLASSIFICATION
On the basis of type of release, air brake system is classified as:
Direct release air brake system
Graduated release air brake system
Types of Graduated release air brake system
Single pipe and
Twin pipe
11. DIRECT RELEASE SYSTEM
Air released immediately in single pass, as soon as
releasing of brakes is initiated.
E.g.: freight trains
GRADUATE RELEASE SYSTEM
Brake cylinder pressure can be reduced gradually in
steps in proportion to the increase in brake pipe pressure.
E.g.: passenger trains
12. TWIN PIPE AIR BRAK SYSTEM
Here along with brake in feedpipe also used from loco to the brake van
in order to get continuity of air for the application & release of brakes.
COMPONENTS OF TWIN PIPE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM
Distributor valve
Auxiliary reservoir(100L)
Control reservoir
Brake cylinder (355mm diameter)
Brake pipe (32mm dia)
Feed pipe(32 mm dia
13.
14. TESTING OF AIR BRAK SYSTEM
Here S.C.T.R. use for testing of brake and its cylinder acts as
the main reservoir.
There are two pressure potentials i.e. 5kg/cm2 in brake pipe
and 6kg/cm2 in feed pipe
17. TRAIN MAINTENANCE
Washing line :-
after every 2500 km
Sick line :-
Schedule “A” maintenance- 1 month
Schedule “B” maintenance- 3 months
IOH- 9 months or 2,00,000 km
POH- 18 months or 4,00,000 km
Platform Train Duty:-
on starting & ending stations
19. Sick Line
Sick line is the workshop for the major and periodical maintenance
of the coaches it consists of modern facilities like pit for working
under frame And crane for separation of coach & bogie for repair
of all type of defects
20. BUFFER MAINTENANCE
Buffers are the horizontal shock absorbing parts with coupling the
adjacent coaches of the train so need regular changing of shock
absorbing rubber pads.
