This lesson plan explains the difference between climate and weather. It discusses three key factors that influence Earth's climate: changes in Earth's orbit around the Sun, which follows a 100,000 year cycle; changes in the tilt of Earth's axis over a 41,000 year cycle; and changes in Earth's wobble or precession over a 26,000 year cycle. These are known as the Milankovitch Cycles. Students will model these climate drivers using circles and strings to demonstrate their effects on Earth's seasons and temperature patterns.
