2. Bangladesh -7th extreme disaster risk
country in the world
Bangladesh is vulnerable to both
disasters and climate change and
ranked the seventh extreme
disaster risk-prone country in the
world -
Global Climate Risk Index 2021.

4. Risk & Vulnerabilities of National Development
The average
temperature rise of
2°C will cause an annual
GDP loss of around 2%
by 2050.
1.3 percent of
annual GDP loss in
Bangladesh has occurred
due to climate change-
induced disasters
(average from the survey
of 2016-2021).
According to BBS (2022)
By 2100, overall
economic losses,
excluding damages from
severe events, are
anticipated to reach
9.4% if no action
is made to adapt
to or mitigate global
climate change
(MoEFCC, 2018)
The national goals of
food security,
poverty
reduction, and
sustainable
development are
threatened due to
climate change-induced
extremities and hazards.
8. OSHE Foundation Bangladesh: A leader
in climate action and environmental
sustainability.
Mission: To promote sustainable
development through research,
advocacy, and community engagement.
• Impact:
⚬ Reduced carbon footprint and
greenhouse gas emissions.
⚬ Preservation of biodiversity and natural
resources.
⚬ Enhanced resilience of vulnerable
communities to climate change effects.

identify policy directions, gaps, and
opportunities in Bangladesh.
Key recommendations emerged, focusing on:
• Enhancing understanding of ASP
• Involving trade unions in social protection schemes
• Expanding ASP schemes aligned with the National
Adaptation Plan
• Providing financial support to climate-affected
individuals and workers
• Developing strategies for climate-displaced
individuals.
10. IEC materials on just transition
Workers are increasingly affected by climate change
through disruptions to employment, health risks, and
income instability. Rising temperatures, extreme weather
events, and environmental degradation exacerbate job
insecurity and occupational hazards, particularly in
vulnerable sectors like agriculture, construction, and
outdoor labor.

11. Just transition initiatives in Bangladesh
OSHE Foundation and Just Transition in Bangladesh
• National Dialogues: OSHE Foundation, often in collaboration
with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), organizes national
dialogues to raise awareness of Just Transition principles and
gather stakeholder input.
• Climate Adaptation: Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to the
effects of climate change, making a Just Transition even more
urgent. OSHE Foundation emphasizes the need for social
protection for workers in climate-impacted sectors, such as
agriculture and coastal industries.
• Worker and Community Engagement: The OSHE
Foundation focuses on ensuring that workers and affected
communities have a strong voice in shaping Bangladesh's
transition to a greener economy.
• Capacity Building: They work to build the skills and
knowledge needed for workers to thrive in new, sustainable
industries.
