A lion cub slips and gets trapped on a vertical cliff, crying out for help. His mother arrives with three other lionesses but they are too afraid to climb down the sheer drop. Eventually, the mother risks her life by slowly and agonizingly climbing down the cliff face using her claws, and rescues the terrified cub by snatching him up in her jaws. She then climbs back up the equally perilous cliff with the cub, and gives him a consoling lick when they reach the top, showing her strong motherly love.

MeasureWorks - Velocity Conference Europe - Performance Automation 101MeasureWorks
For optimizing web performance most of you have put to practice the "14 rules for creating high performance websites". But most IT organizations don't have the resources, time or money available to continuously fine-tune their web performance. There’s a need for a different approach, automation of web performance optimization. This presentation will not only cover the business benefits of automation, but also prove that automation works and improves your website by taking multiple automation providers for a test-drive....
DevOps Beyond the Buzzwords: What it Means to Embrace the DevOps LifestyleMark Heckler
Session presented at CodeMash 2016.
DevOps is a hot topic, but it’s a bit ambiguous. What do developers really need to know about DevOps? What is it? What ISN’T it? What difference does it make? We’ll start by examining “DevOps”, what it means to embrace it, and the various personnel involved. We consider the potential benefits associated with a DevOps approach and the risks associated with adopting it…and with not adopting it. We take a quick look at some of the tools and platforms that can be used to implement a productive DevOps environment, including (but not limited to):
* Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) software
* Infrastructure Build Automation tools
* Virtualization, Containerization, and Cloud options
Finally, we run a live scenario using several of the tools discussed to demonstrate the key components of a DevOps-committed lifestyle. We start from nothing, using available tooling to build the target platform in a scriptable, repeatable fashion…then demonstrate effective use of CI/CD software for a more streamlined and effective software build/test/deploy cycle…and finally show how containers and cloud services form the foundation upon which everything else is built.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

3. Clinging on for dear life to the side of a vertical cliff, the tiny lion cub cries out
pitifully for help.
His mother arrives at the edge of the precipice with three other lionesses and
a male. The females start to clamber down together but turn back daunted
by the sheer drop.
Eventually one single factor determines which of them will risk her life to
save the youngster – motherly love.
5. On the brink: Four lionesses look over the edge before aborting their
rescue mission because of the sheer drop
6. Slowly, agonisingly, the big cat edges
her way down towards her terrified
son, using her powerful claws to grip
the crumbling cliff side.
One slip from her and both animals
could end up dead at the bottom of
the ravine.
Just as the exhausted cub seems about
to fall, his mother circles beneath him
and he is snatched up in her jaws.
She then begins the equally perilous
journey back to the top.
Minutes later, they arrive and she
gives the frightened creature a
consoling lick on the head.

the lions is not without its dangers … as the cub learned the hard way.
8. Rescue mission:
The mother inches her way down
the cliff face to rescue the
terrified cub before locking him in
her jaws and making her way
back up the cliff face
9. Motherly love:
