I run 15+ years old business, and we look after our people very well – parties
for birthdays babies, marriages, and a real interest in each individual, both
personally, professionally. Still, people engagement to the company’s
philosophy and ethos remains a suspect. There seems to be a general
acceptance of status quo – which bothers me a lot.
I am about to tear my hair out, yet nothing seems to make them more

First Stop Trying
With the best of intentions I have created a classical entitlement culture in
which my people have the deal exactly backward. They think you work for
them.
Not an uncommon phenomena in emerging businesses, where in employees
can more easily develop a causal, familiar relationships with their bosses and
bosses more often blur professional lines themselves.
Hence familiarity backfires sooner or later, as it is happening with me, and my
fixated resources.

What should I Do
Its irrelevant how I got into the well, imperative is to come out quickly and get
straight with myself first.
I am running a company and not a social enterprise or counseling service. My
number one property is to win the market place such that I have ample
growth opportunities for me and my resources.
Making my employees happy and wanted is laudable, which needs to come
out of enhancing company's performance and productivity, and only then
would we all experience a personal and professional growth. Not the other
way around

Imbibe this new way of thinking as your new creed
Next I need to gather people around and let them know about my
conversation experience and my plan to convert them too.
Together me and my resources will need to create a list of behaviors that will
result in the company's winning- the new values and guidelines, which we all
to have live by.
Sense of urgency to respond to your customer could be one such value, or
shipping zero defect products. The point of this process is simple - extremely
simple – its helping my people to understand that work is about….. well its all
about work.

Without doubt I will hear yelps of pain as I dismantle my entitlement culture
Some may groan, moan, be extremely unhappy – some may leave in protest.
Take that hit and wish them well
Soon they would realize that grass other side isn't more greener and that how
much better your company operates when my main concern is winning and
not whining.
