This document discusses several theorists of narrative theory, including Claude Levi-Strauss, Edward Branigan, Vladimir Propp, Tzvetan Todorov, Roland Barthes, and Robert McKee. Levi-Strauss developed the concept of binary opposites in narratives. Propp identified character functions and narrative actions that progress stories. Branigan defined narration as regulating knowledge in a narrative. Todorov proposed narratives move from an initial equilibrium, through disruption, to a new equilibrium. Barthes identified codes that unravel narrative meanings. And McKee examined compelling narrative design beyond individual elements.
