Class II, Division 1
Malocclusions
www.indiandentalacademy.com
-Class II, Div. 1 malocclusions are the most common
-The prominence of upper incisor are cause of concern
to the patient and parents and the risk of incisor
fracture is high.
Occlusal Features:
-Class II incisor relationship with proclination and an
increased overbite.
-The buccal segment is usually class II, cross bite and
scissors bite may occasionally be found.

Skeletal Relationships:
-Skeletal pattern is class II
-Dento-alveolar compensation by proclination of
lower incisors
-Receding chin which gives a poor facial profile
-The lower facial height is generally average of
reduced.
-Some cases there may be rather high maxillary –
mandibular plane angles.

Facial Growth:
Maxillary mandibular plane angle
is low
Horizontal growth pattern

is high
Vertical growth patternwww.indiandentalacademy.com
Soft Tissues:
-Profile – convex
-Lips are grossly incompetent
-Chin receding
-Lip trap

Treatment Objectives:
Major objectives of treatment are to relieve crowding
and irregularity of the teeth and to establish a stable
class I incisor relationship.
-A stable reduction in overjet and overbite.

upper buccal segments using an ‘en masse’ appliance
with no extractions in the lower arch

extraction of four first premolars and an upper
removable appliance.
