How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Our Song The song we chose (The Scientist) fits into the genre of ‘Alternative’.  The genre has codes and conventions of isolation, loneliness, heart break and use of instruments. Through the codes and conventions it possess it creates a brand of its own.
Genre Research We used both textual and semiotic analysis’ in order to define the typical codes and conventions of similar media products. We also conducted a questionnaire which were given to people about what they expected to see in our genre of music video
How effective were these ancillary texts? We feel that our ancillary texts are closely linked and work effectively as the theme between the music video, CD cover and magazine advertisement is evident. Through the use of lighting, font used on both the CD cover and magazine advertisement and the images used creates a theme, therefore it creates branding.  We asked our target audience what they thought of our marketing products. We received positive feedbacks with the use of images and colours used in the products conveyed the negative emotions that the main character possessed.

Magazine Advert
Links between the texts We have used the same person to front all three products which conveys the correlation between all of the products. The title of our music video ‘The Scientist’ is clearly presented on all of the marketing products. The same colour scheme of black, white and grey is used in our texts to reflect the negativity in our video. We have branded both ancillary texts with the CJME logo to convey the correlation with our music video.
Reflecting Back… When looking back at our research and planning of our 3 products, we feel that they are very effective and link back to our storyboard.  The theme throughout our marketing products and the music video is clear and concise. It has worked well to portray the genre and codes and conventions of our music video and similar media products.
