The city of Islamabad is beautiful but also ruthless, full of intrigue and deception. While the author loves the city, they also hate it for its cold-blooded politics. Since 1988, there has been constant political instability, with leaders overthrown by the military or exiled. The two most promising leaders for democracy, Benazir Bhutto and her husband, were both assassinated. The long struggle for an independent judiciary and rule of law prevailed when the Prime Minister announced judges would be reinstated after negotiations. This victory shows how democracy can succeed through reconciliation rather than confrontation.
This document discusses proposed changes to improve democracy in India. It addresses issues such as criminals holding political office, the role of wealth and age in leadership, influence of religion and caste in politics, lack of women's representation, disregard for public opinion, youth disenfranchisement, and nepotism. Specific recommendations are made to prevent criminals from running for office, establish political accountability and transparency, encourage youth participation, remove casteism from politics, and increase citizens' recognition of their voting power. The document was created by a team of students from Rajeev Gandhi Memorial College of Engineering & Technology in Nandyal, India.

Nortel, a Canadian telephone equipment maker, filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2009 due to structural issues exacerbated by the financial crisis. While recessions impact companies with pre-existing problems, the primary cause of Nortel's bankruptcy was its inability to keep up with the rapid pace of digital technology development. Moore's Law, which observed that digital capabilities double every 18 months, created a relentless cycle of innovation that Nortel could not sustain. Despite early investments in digital technology, Nortel failed to integrate acquisitions and transform its business model to adapt to the digital shift in the industry. As competitors continued advancing technology, Nortel was left behind, leading to bankruptcy.

Coding is the new literacy to make a difference in the worldmcd_boulanger
The document discusses the importance of teaching coding to children from an early age. It notes that many everyday objects are made possible through code, yet most people do not know how to read and write code. The author advocates starting to teach coding in kindergarten, as it can be presented as play at that age. By starting early and making it fun, children can build positive attitudes towards coding rather than negative stereotypes. The document provides several examples of class projects the author's students have worked on to learn coding, such as creating audio books and videos about environmental issues. It emphasizes that coding can be taught to students of all backgrounds and that many resources are available online to learn coding for free.

Gathering and defining software requirements is difficult. One Agile technique to help address this challenge is writing user stories, which are short descriptions of functions that an end-user would want. While user stories help convert concepts into functions, writing good user stories is easier said than done.
What you’ll learn in this presentation:
• The basics of user stories.
• How user stories fit into the overall Agile planning process.
• How to write a user story.
The document discusses the different levels of planning in Agile development: release planning, iteration planning, and task planning. It provides details on each level, including who is involved, how to define a release plan, estimating velocity, common problems and solutions, and examples. The key aspects covered are the differences between releases and iterations, estimating at each level, and breaking down stories into tasks.

The document discusses common problems with PowerPoint presentations and provides tips for creating effective presentations. It notes that 50% of presentations are unbearable due to overuse of text-heavy bullet points. Effective presentations tell a story using minimal text and images to trigger emotions. Presenters should focus on understanding the audience and their goals rather than simply relaying information. The key is to influence the audience rather than just tell them something. Presentations require planning content and structure to engage the audience and achieve the presenter's objectives.

BUILDING FUTURE VALUE!
Afrika Tikkun is building a sustainable future by enabling today’s disadvantaged children and youth to become tomorrow’s productive citizens. We do this via a unique and proven Cradle-to-Career model which invests in the education and social development of children from early infancy through young adulthood and into gainful employment.
South Africa’s multitudes of disadvantaged children face unique challenges that are no fault of their own. For many, lack of access to basics such as having parents, food, shelter and healthcare means that daily life revolves around simple survival, frequently leading away from education and social promise into despair driven crime.
Afrika Tikkun's mission is to break the cycle of poverty, providing these children with Hope, Capability and Promise - the education, life-skills and confidence to become the self-sustaining, productive future of the country. This is the shared goal of Nelson Mandela, our founding Patron, whose legacy we strive to live by and to instill in all those we touch.

Offsets in Defence Procurement in Canada - ConsiderationsBrenda Swick
Companies that bid on defence and Canadian Coast Guard contracts are well aware of Canada’s Industrial and Regional Benefits (IRB) Policy, which requires them to undertake business activities in Canada that are valued at 100 percent of the prime contract with Public Works and Government Services Canada. Under Canada’s new Defence Procurement Strategy, IRBs, now called “Value Propositions for Industrial Technological Benefits (ITBs),” will, for the first time, be a rated requirement in the evaluation of a bidder’s proposal. This means that bidders with an otherwise competitive bid are now exposed to losing to a competitor whose bid contains a stronger Value Proposition. The rules are still being developed and therefore bidders would be well advised to keep abreast of the implementation of this new rated requirement. Bidders should ensure that they understand up front the Value Proposition requirement in the solicitation document as well as rules for challenging it, if necessary. Finally, Canada’s new Integrity Provisions will now apply to prime contractors that flow down some of their offset requirements to subcontractors; prime contractors would therefore be well advised to ensure that their subcontractors are willing and able to sign onto terms similar to those set out in the Integrity Provisions. Failure to do so could result in the termination of the contract and imposition of damages very unfavourable to the prime contractor.
All of these issues are discussed in the presentation to the European Countertrade and Offsets Club to be given in Vienna, on November 20, 2014.
This document summarizes a case between Russell Childs (Complainant) and Microsoft Corporation (Respondent) regarding alleged violations of regulations related to H-1B visa employment. The Complainant filed a complaint with the Department of Labor alleging Microsoft violated regulations regarding wages and benefits for H-1B employees. An administrative law judge held a hearing to consider additional alleged violations beyond those already investigated. The document includes 17 joint stipulations of fact agreed upon by both parties related to the Complainant's employment with Microsoft in both Canada and the United States under an H-1B visa.
The city of Islamabad is described as beautiful yet ruthless, with a hidden world of intrigue behind its calm exterior. Politicians have brought chaos through their power struggles since independence, while the military establishment has long controlled the country. Two of Pakistan's best leaders have been killed due to the city's intrigues. The recent lawyers' movement and restoration of the judiciary through peaceful protest shows that democracy can prevail through unity and people power.
The document discusses how Indian political leaders have failed to uphold the ideals of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of India's constitution. While paying lip service to Ambedkar and his fight against caste hierarchy, most leaders have done little to dismantle casteism. Indian democracy has also failed to ensure multifaceted development and equal opportunities for all citizens, as Ambedkar envisioned. Poverty, illiteracy and threats to security continue to plague the lives of many. The emergence of communal, casteist and corrupt forces in politics has undermined Ambedkar's vision for an egalitarian India.
1) The document discusses strategy failures in Nepal, arguing that crowded and corrupted political leaders have neglected their responsibilities and made the country vulnerable to internal problems and external pressures.
2) It claims that Indian and international influence has contributed to political instability in Nepal by pressuring leaders and dissolving the constitution assembly.
3) The author believes that if Nepalese citizens and leaders were more united and nationalist rather than focused on parties, they could develop a new constitution and vision to strengthen the country.
This document discusses different types of political leadership. It defines political leadership and explains that political leaders are important drivers of change in a society, country, and people's lives. It then describes four main forms of political leadership: 1) Democratic countries, where leaders must abide by the constitution and public opinion; 2) Authoritarian countries, where traditional rulers claim power through inheritance; 3) Dictatorships, where leaders seize power through force of arms; and 4) Façade liberal democracies, where leaders outwardly follow democratic processes but can act dictatorially against opposition. The document emphasizes that political leadership is crucial and impacts a nation's sovereignty, economy, education, military, and technological development.

1) The document calls for a return to value-based politics in South Africa, arguing that current politics have moved away from service-oriented values like truth, welfare of the people, and opposition to individual benefit.
2) It states that corruption, dirty politics, and the prioritization of materialism and power over social policies have damaged South African democracy and society.
3) The document concludes by calling for political cooperation over confrontation, and for political parties and leaders to adhere to written and unwritten rules of decency and the national interest over personal gain.

Reforming Thailand: Thailand's 81 Years in Masking DeictatorshipNarong Chokwatana
All humans are mammals, but all mammals are not humans; the class includes monkeys, elephants, lions, tigers, rhinos and many, many others. Similarly, although democracy requires elections, it is not guaranteed that governments assuming power from elections will be
democratic; they can be dictators such as Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini whose cruel governments assumed power from elections.
They owned the constitution, dictated to parliament, and were brutal masters. Sometimes elections give the appearance of democracy, but can mask what in reality is a cruel political regime.
This book is written in the hope that Thai people will understand that their beloved country has serious divergences in its way of thinking philosophically and politically. What is the cause of this divergent
ideology? Thailand should aspire to be politically democratic with a constitutional monarchy. How can Thai people assist in correcting the problems of corruption by politicians and government officers, including the judicial system, which has many standards that seriously
divide Thai society?
This document discusses the need for electoral reforms in India to reduce the influence of money and muscle power in politics. It notes that money has become the medium of exchange for votes, undermining democracy. The common man feels elections are just a play every 5 years for politicians to earn money indirectly. It proposes solutions like educating voters on their democratic rights and policies, carefully scrutinizing candidates' promises and tactics, and helping voters understand how their single vote can impact their lives and community. Politicians with criminal records should voluntarily leave parties, and character rather than money/power should determine votes. Spending on elections also needs monitoring. Overall electoral reforms are needed to empower common citizens and curb excessive money and influence in politics.
This document discusses the need for electoral reforms in India to reduce the influence of money and muscle power in politics. It notes that money has become the medium of exchange for votes. This undermines democracy and the common man feels his vote does not matter. The document proposes several solutions, including better educating voters about their democratic rights and policies, scrutinizing candidates' promises and tactics, and regulating campaign spending. It emphasizes the need for candidates and politicians to have integrity and serve the people rather than themselves. Media should also help the public make informed choices. Overall the goal is for elections to be determined more by candidates' character than their wealth or influence.
This document discusses Islamic principles for forming governments and contrasts them with Western democracy. It argues that Islam does not support democracy as it could potentially challenge Allah. Instead, Islam guided Muslims to have respected, qualified members of society select leaders, as seen when Abu Bakr was chosen as the first caliph. The key principle was that the credentials of voters were more important than candidates. It says for an Islamic democracy in Pakistan today, voter qualifications need to be redefined to limit voting to the highly educated as illiterates currently make up most voters, ensuring poor leadership is repeatedly elected. Western democracy also requires high education and financial stability to succeed, which Pakistan currently lacks.
The document discusses the state of democracy in India and argues that true power has been usurped from the people. It criticizes the legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru and the Congress party for sustaining power after independence and destroying democratic institutions. While things are starting to improve with movements for accountability and transparency, the document says real change requires action from the people as democracy cannot survive with a passive public. It ends on an optimistic note that India cannot suffer poor governance indefinitely due to its natural blessings and that citizens must work to improve the system.
This document discusses and compares democracy and dictatorship. It provides definitions and examples of each type of government. For democracy, it outlines key aspects like elections and majority rule. For dictatorship, it notes power is concentrated under one individual. The document then examines Pakistan's history under both democratic and dictatorial regimes, finding periods of dictatorship often saw higher economic growth but rose public opposition. It concludes that democracy is preferable if elections are fair and citizens elect competent representatives to have stable, prosperous governance.
This document discusses and compares democracy and dictatorship as forms of government. It provides definitions and highlights of democracy, including that it is a form of government by the people through elections. It also outlines some merits and demerits of democracy, such as people having a choice in leaders but the potential for corruption. The document summarizes the ongoing challenges facing India's democracy as outlined by the author Jagdish N Singh. It notes that while India has seen economic growth, the majority of the population, especially marginalized groups, have not benefited and continue to suffer from issues like poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and discrimination. The document criticizes the political leadership for failing to address these contradictions as envisioned by the architects of the Indian constitution like Ambedkar. It argues that the dominance of unworthy political elements and decline of democratic institutions have weakened the republic. The document calls for reforms to make democracy more meaningful and relevant for ordinary citizens.
Rulers class to meet their own personal interestmdafsarali
The document summarizes how India's ruling class has failed to meet the expectations of the people after independence in several key areas:
1. Politically, democracy has lost its soul of representation, with weaker communities and women making up a small minority in legislature.
2. Economically, GDP growth has declined sharply while inflation and wealth disparity have increased drastically.
3. In foreign policy, relations with neighbors have become strained by abruptly shifting policies designed to win elections rather than benefit the people.
4. Public assets are being increasingly privatized while corruption and bank fraud have risen tremendously.
1) The document criticizes Kenyan politicians for proposing pay increases for themselves while the country suffers from poverty, and for attempting to pass laws gagging the press.
2) It notes that the traditional opposition has become indistinguishable from the ruling party due to corruption and a focus on power over helping the poor.
3) The author warns politicians that their "noise" of dissatisfaction will soon become a "music" that writes the "political eulogies" of the politicians, and calls on citizens to stand up against corruption and cleanse the government.

This document discusses early detection and early intervention in the framework of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programs. It outlines that CBR programs can establish mechanisms for early screening activities to identify disabilities in babies and young children. This allows for early treatment or referral to other health services. CBR workers can also provide early intervention activities, usually home-based, and encourage playgroups to support child development. The document recommends CBR workers understand child development milestones and support inclusive early childhood education provisions.
This document discusses a proposed study comparing dilatational percutaneous tracheostomy (PDT) to surgical tracheostomy. The study aims to show that PDT is less time consuming and has a lower rate of complications than surgical tracheostomy. It also aims to prove that PDT is more economical and will replace surgical tracheostomy in intensive care units. The document provides background on the history and types of tracheostomies. It outlines the hypothesis, aims, operational definitions, study design, sample size, inclusion/exclusion criteria, data collection and analysis process for the proposed study comparing PDT to surgical tracheostomy.

Prenatal development occurs in three stages: germinal, embryonic, and fetal. During the germinal stage, the fertilized egg implants in the uterus and begins cell division. In the embryonic stage, organs begin to form through organogenesis. The fetal period begins at 8 weeks when organogenesis is complete and the fetus continues growing and developing until birth. Risks during prenatal development include teratogens like alcohol, drugs, and infections from the mother. Critical periods of development include implantation and organogenesis when the fetus is most vulnerable. The birth process involves three stages of labor and delivery options like Lamaze or home birth. Assessments of the neonate include Apgar scores and routine tests are done to prevent issues.
The National Institute of Special Education (NISE) was established in 1986 to provide training and education services related to special education and rehabilitation of children with disabilities in Pakistan. NISE develops curriculum and materials for teachers, runs national and international seminars, and conducts research on teaching and learning issues for children with disabilities. It provides long and short-term training courses on specialized areas like physical impairment, hearing impairment, mental retardation, visual impairment, and more. Trainees include professionals from federal and provincial governments as well as NGOs working with people with disabilities. Going forward, NISE aims to expand its academic offerings and establish a Center of Excellence in special education.
Disabilities can occur at any age and for various reasons, and are defined as impairments, limitations in activities, or restrictions in participation. Causes of disabilities include both prenatal factors like genetic disorders, infections, or environmental exposures during pregnancy, as well as perinatal and postnatal causes such as prematurity, injuries, or illnesses. Prevention strategies aim to identify risks early through preconception counseling, prenatal screening, and newborn screening in order to provide early treatment or rehabilitation interventions that can reduce disabilities.

The document proposes establishing a workshop in Pakistan for manufacturing wheelchairs and other assistive devices. It notes that wheelchairs have been used since ancient times but modern mass production began after World Wars. The workshop aims to locally produce need-based wheelchairs to improve accessibility and independence for people with disabilities in Pakistan as called for by UN conventions. It would analyze user needs, monitor demand, and ensure appropriate and durable designs that promote activity and esteem. The overall goal is to execute local wheelchair production affordably and make effective devices available in Pakistan.

1. CITY of Deception !!
BY DR SAIM ALI SOOMRO.
Islamabad is an strange city , its beautiful & organized , it has wide roads and sprawling
parks, it has flowers of all colors and people of all natures and ethnicities, it captures the
visitors with its enormous beauty and love with its first sight is common to strangers, life
is slow and tranquil on its exterior But city as as ruthless, as stone heart, as coward as
could be any one, its malls, wide spreading allies and huge mansions are full of worms,
there live spine less creatures who thrive on intrigue and vampire like persona, they have
sharp hooked canine ready to inject into unsuspected victims and systems, it is only city
where people talk some thing and it means some thing else. I have seen score less
nothings, weightless beings which become so powerful that they start eating their masters
and kin if the need arose!
The city is cool and cold, Since 1988, I am in love with this city and at the same
time I hate this too for its cold blooded attitudes and intrigues which is always in the air,
there is some thing always going on in this city’s palaces, offices and large houses, when
I came to interview in this city I was young and enthusiastic, when I was going back that
day the Dictator of our time was blown up in Bahawalpur, I was in Train and going back
to Hyderabad where I was doing my House Job in LMCH, we heard the news and
couldn’t hide our joy !! One who hanged an elected Prime Minister and heart throb of this
always unfortunate country, we felt that now we will have a democracy and rule of Law ,
some one will make from scratch the institutions of this country, some will change the
destiny of poor , there will be roads and will be progress to our neglected home land and
than I came back to this city for serving and living by the time democracy begun , we saw
political leaders turn Ministers and their tantrums, a never ending chaos for a decade,
where leaders were playing musical chairs , rule of game they made were not to allow
other to play , every thing for me & nothing for others !!
Sanity has never prevailed in our leaders and country is in strong grip of
establishment of both types which have no regards for politics and political leader ship
they always obey them with a hidden smile and false respect for people in power, once
they are gone, they are forgotten, if they have an intelligent leader ship they find
weakness in their characters and exploit them, they lead some leaders to gallows , some
to exile and some one when mature and ready to serve with honesty is killed cold
coldblooded in broad day light in front of thousands.
Establishment of this unfortunate nation has always been masters of this country since its
birth or shortly after birth, they found this country a gift from its masters of the past, who
divided sub continent and trained our establishment in their military and civil institutions
till to date to teach them how to rule not that how to serve, the newly born country has a
large cadre of political workers, untrained and uneducated with a very few leaders who
has some insight and experience in governance, most of the migrated leaders were from
princely states or land lord families and their relation to people was of a Master and slave
and they knew only this type of rules, exceptions were there but scanty, so the country
started running on adhoc, still is being run by adhocism, institutions were never allowed
to develop, social services are still in infantile stage , health ,education and Rights are
limited to leader ship’s families all others were treated as fillers !!
This attitude lead to amputation of half of the country in 1971, the leader ship now came
in remaining part of country gave it the constitution and a system of governance and a
2. new beginning, once again it was politician playing others game made so much chaos
that hidden and behind the curtain masters brought the Sword of Islam reluctantly in
Power again just Five years after their long rule and two Martial Laws brought separation
of eastern wing and military defeat of worst kind , about one hundred thousands laid their
ammunition ,bowed to their enemy & presented guard of honor to Commander of enemy
army!!!
It took them Five years to topple the elected government and hang the Prime Minister in
controversial court decision, it took us from 76 to 88 to get a fresh air after a long dark
night of iron rule but once again politicians played at the hands of behind the curtain
enemies and foolish friends, this game of hatred and deceit could only played for roughly
10 years when an other soldier marched in to rule and again this went on for over a
decade of rule of necessity validated by courts and Mullah –military alliances , the two of
popular leaders and former political foes went in to exile self or sponsored and ran their
remaining parties from remote control, they reconciled in exile and decided not to repeat
mistakes of the past, People were again happy when they signed the Charter Of
democracy, this time it looked like real dream , people of this country were euphoric but
that state was short living , one of the popular leader killed in broad day light in her
political rallies in Rawalpindi shortly before elections, her husband assumed all powers
of the largest Political party and cooled down furious people to save the country and
democracy, later on as every one knows the story , he won the Elections and made
reconciliation his aim, He promised to restore judiciary which was hanged by than soldier
ruling for 10 years or more and got himself elected by out going parliament. Husband of
ex-PM slain near the capital was again a target killing by those who knew that she is only
leader and intelligent enough to put this country on the path of democracy and can handle
international pressures like father like daughter!!
Intrigues of this City killed two of our best leaders after partition, over a year after
her death and her party is singled out as enemy of democracy, only leftist and largest
party of the country , who has long struggle for democracy, has got killed their leaders
and workers in the way to shining and promising future for their country, perhaps their
Leader was killed due to her ideas and pledge to bring true democracy and politics of
respecting others and their mandate, live and let live, she was removed to clear the way
for one year , her husband in presidency and party in power, they have acted unable to
fulfill their promises repeatedly , made furious their allies, few people are aking
unpopular decisions and President is allowing them to act their way to malign , his party
and democracy, with out realizing that world is not same as was in eighties and nineties,
media is no longer in chains and Tv & computer has made world a smaller place to live!!
Government and opposition+ civil society & lawyers has reached at point of no
return, whole world is looking at us in pity, terrorism has already made us a sore thumb
in community of nations, our enemies are happy at our present and friends crying silently,
again these are politicians which have no honor for 160million nation and their wishes
which wants to see Democracy in this country and strong institutions, they want right to
equal justice in this country but rabid politicians have closed their eyes from light and
rapidly they are falling in to trap set by enemies of democracy.
It’s the loss of 160 million of Pakistanis most of them un educated , living and
dying on daily wages, most of the children can not attend the schools because they have
to feed their families for less than a dollar a day!!
3. It is again this City and its haunted palaces, where dragons of deception,
dishonesty & intrigues live, they are furious at common men, civil society and lawyers
for their movement to restore deposed judges, they have lost their respect for politician
and politics way that is played in this country, We don’t want this type of Politics any
more, we want politics of honor & mutual respect, only Politics which can pave way to
progress not to fume differences and ethnicity!
Power corrupts and absolute power means absolute corruption, this is last chance
for many who can not sense the change of mood in nation and how rapidly they are
falling in a pit, never to rise again time will tell them.
There is always a way for the nations when they rise from ashes and time is
coming when we have to rise again as nation may it be from ashes.
What happened in the week preceding Long March for restoration of judiciary is a
tale of revolution, for a week government was adamant to not to bow down they have
erected barricades from Karachi to Khyber, crack down on political and civil activists, it
was not the way Musharaf did or in 1992 a civilian government did against BB’s long
march call it was softer than that but Media played its role in this struggle as a Guide and
Ministers & representatives of government found it hard to defend but it seems sanity
prevailed after mediation of Army chief and pressure from friends and mentors
Government has to bow down specially Man in haunted Presidency, after at least three
main Ministers resigned and there was huge out cry in ruling party, night before the Long
March when huge rally came out of Lahore including Mian Nawaz sharif , Lawyer’s
leaders and opposition parties men when they reach gujranwala , they were called by
Prime Minister and told that decision has been taken to reinstate Judges and with this
concludes the aim of Long March and early morning Prime Minister appeared as new
moderate and respected Leader of Pakistani masses, He told the nation that nation can not
afford the policy and politics of confrontation , we had started the lawyer’s movement
and we are re instating judges as was promised by the Shaeed BB.
His announcement has not only diffuse the tensions immediately but bring joy to
the depressed majority of this nation which were glued to the TV sets for a week in hope
that sanity will prevail in the end as it was not a dictatorial regime it was peoples
government and people wanted reinstatement of Chief Justice.
This is Victory and beauty of democracy where every one is Victor and no one is
looser, we want to hail the positive role played by COAS, People were afraid that things
were so worse that Martial law is just knocking on the door in spite of chances the Army
chief acted as mediator and guide the way from confrontation to re conciliation, we salute
him.
We salute this nation who is mature to demand its rights & media , Politicians, civil right
activists and above all Lawyers who did splendid job and for two years they have
struggled and got the due reward, may God give wisdom to our Judiciary and political
leaders so that this country should become a peace full democratic nation in Future to
come, there is long way to that dream but every thing is started with first step , if that step
is taken than it has to reach its goal. One day we will reach that goal.
