Mobile ads don't effectively engage users on mobile devices due to usability issues. The document instead recommends focusing on utility, brand, social networking, and entertainment apps, which add convenience and value while entertaining users. These app categories are better alternatives for mobile engagement and monetization than ads.
The document proposes creating an interactive platform to connect gamers with their local friends for online gaming. It would allow users to find other nearby gamers and include features like user profiles, leaderboards, notifications of new content, and a communication platform. Retailers could buy ad space in the app to generate revenue. Over time, the platform could allow direct purchases from Activision, reducing retailers' control over games and profits.
In Canada, Android operating systems make up approximately 50% of the market share for mobile users, while worldwide Android OS capture over 70% of the market. The App Revolution - Is your Business Ready for Mobile?Matthew David
Apps are the most disruptive technology ever. Period. Your company needs to have a plan on how you can capitalize on this new technology before you start losing business.
Mobile applications have the potential to greatly enhance science and medical communication by providing just-in-time information to users on-the-go. Publishers will need to design apps for direct consumer use on a variety of mobile devices. Some key considerations for publishers include determining user needs, deciding on business models, and leveraging multimedia features of platforms like the iPad to provide rich interactive content beyond what is possible on print. Apps present opportunities to engage new audiences and generate additional revenue streams for publishers.
Paperlit is a digital publishing platform that allows publishers to easily create branded apps for iPhone, iPad, Android, and Facebook. It converts print publications like newspapers, magazines, and catalogs into digital formats. Publishers can upload PDFs or website content, and Paperlit handles conversion, hosting, and distribution. Readers can access publications through apps or on the web. The platform offers features like multimedia integration, push notifications, and advertising and billing options to help publishers monetize and distribute their content across devices. Pricing depends on the number of apps, issues published per year, and other customization options.
iOS 11 provides new intelligent platforms, system apps, and interface experiences that enhance privacy and usability. Core ML and ARKit introduce new capabilities for developing intelligent apps. System apps like Apple Maps, iMessage, and Apple News integrate additional features and functionalities. The App Store redesign aims to improve app discovery and monetization. iPad usability is strengthened with multi-tasking and Apple Pencil support, positioning the device as a genuine workstation. Overall, iOS 11 emphasizes privacy controls and positioning Apple as the platform focused on user data transparency.

This document discusses whether publishers should create native apps or web apps for their iPad publications. It notes that the choice is strategic, not technical, and outlines key factors to consider for each option like user experience, accessibility, and promotion capabilities. Native apps offer rich interfaces and easy promotion through app stores but only work on iPad, while web apps can be accessed across devices but may lack the polish of native apps. Overall, publishers should evaluate their business goals and consult experts to determine the best approach.

One of the things we learned is that interactive push categories have to be included in the app that goes through the app store.
We should consider including a set of standard button/categories in the SDK that work cross platform and would work out of the box.
Such as like:
Like, Dislike - set a custom event and/or a tag with the push ID of the message sent?
More, Less - set a custom event and/or a tag with the push ID of the message sent?
Dismiss, Follow - set a custom event and/or a tag with the push ID of the message sent?
Dismiss, Reply - Open the app and bring up a screen that can collect a comment. Send collected comments from users to UA. Display them in UI. Allow export to CSV of comments
Dismiss, Share - Could we just bring up whatever the app has configured for sharing?
More - Bring up Landing page with more options for Actions to run OR maybe we can display More options as a UA Modal Action?
I think we could get started with a handful of these. What are some other ideas?
We'd want to localize these as well. Perhaps the device would sort that out? To start, maybe we just tell developers how to modify it if they need multi-lingual support.
From the requirements ^^, "Configuration screen to register and manage Interactive Notification Types (aka categories on iOS8)." Maybe we'd include a handful of these OOTB button/categories on that settings screen in our UI pre-configured. And then, the customer could add any custom ones (they'd have to work with their developer to get the new ones registered).
Other random thoughts:
Maybe we'd make it so after the initial button/category you could optionally execute any number of UA Actions?
Maybe have some way on the push detail report to see counts of what users tapped on which button?
Maybe a way to export device consumer identifiers/aliases/tokens?
The key innovations that Apple is shipping with iOS 8 are:
> Interactive Notifications & Notification Center Widgets
To support these new innovations, Apple is making improvement to APNs
To enable our customers to best capitalize on these, UA will be shipping a significant release. Some of you may be aware that Android has been supporting Interactive Notifications since 2012. Now with Apple’s support, mainstream adoption will happen.
Widgets give your brand the opportunity to earn a place in the most prized real estate on the phone.
Lets your users interact with your brand without having to open up the app.
This is much faster than opening an app, giving the user almost instant access to the most important information and functionality you have to offer.
Like interactive notifications, provides an opportunity not just to display info, but enable interactivity, 2-way communication
As we all know, Push notifications provide huge value by driving users to engage with your mobile apps. With the addition of Interactive Notifications, you can now enhance this value by adding more interactivity into a push notification. Why does this matter?
Now you can add buttons to a push allowing users to make choices.
For example, a news app can now allow users to “Open” or “Share” a news headline whereas before users could only swipe on the Push to get into new story.
Although, some of these capabilities have been available in Android for sometime, Apple’s addition of interactive notifications and their ability to move the entire market to their new operating system, will ensure that push interactivity become the norm.
Another example is the ability to share socially by leveraging UA's action framework, which provides an enhanced opportunity to acquire users and reach a wider audience.
Another example is the ability to share socially by leveraging UA's action framework, which provides an enhanced opportunity to acquire users and reach a wider audience.
The next significant change to iOS 8 is the enhanced Notification Center and specifically the Today Screen. This was previously a Power User feature, but by allowing users to select widgets for a customized at-a-glance view of content, it will become a goto screen.
Brands will complete to gain more screen time through this valuable real-estate.
Urban Airship will be extending the value of our Message Center as a Widget. Message Center, as you may know, provides brands with the ability to reach their entire app audience, beyond those who opt-in to push. You can now publish content in your app to drive engagement and extend that value through a Widget w/o having to build your own solution.
In this example, a retailer’s Message Center Widget is providing a user with tracking status. A user can directly check the status of their order status directly from the message.
In this example, a retailer’s Message Center Widget is providing a user with tracking status. A user can directly check the status of their order status directly from the message.
Apple is upgrading its push system to modernize and better support the new features.
> Reach global audience
> Support richer interactivity
> Push is not just an home screen alert, it is used to update content within and app (data communication channel)

For the fall, Urban Airship is extending the value of Interactive Notifications and Mobile Messaging.
This fall we’re shipping cross platform support for Interactive Notifications, Message Center Widgets and pre-defined interactive button pairs. Urban Airship is also adding Custom Event and Conversion Tracking support. This will ensure you understand the performance and ROI of your mobile engagement programs.
And with our new conversion tracking feature you’ll be able to get complete visibility into the life cycle of interactions with your mobile messaging ranging from initial interaction to conversions as well assigning a monetary value to your goals.
