The Poetry of Robert Frost
Unit Plan
AnnaTupper
CI 350-201
Analyze Learners
General characteristics: 11th grade Honors class, 15 students (6 boys, 9
girls), 11 Caucasian, 4 African-American.
Specific entry competencies: Students should have a basic understanding
of poetry, poetic devices, and of Robert Frost.
Learning styles: 75% audio-visual learners, 25% kinesthetic learners
Main Objective
Students will analyze and compare the works of Robert Frost for poetic
devices such as metaphor, imagery, details, syntax, grammar, etc. through
the use of videos, group discussions, low stakes writing assignments,
readings, and presentations by the end of the week with 100% accuracy.
Day by Day Schedule
Monday: Low stakes writing assignment regarding what my students already know about
poetry, class discussion on Robert Frost/poetry in general
Tuesday: Lecture on Robert Frost accompanied by a PowerPoint or Prezi
Wednesday: Read the poems, “Stopping by theWoods on a Snowy Evening,” “The Road
NotTaken,” and “Nothing GoldCan Stay,” all accompanied byYouTube videos of Robert
Frost reciting them himself, cocktail discussion comparing and contrasting imagery and
metaphor in the poems
Thursday: Use posters to come up with class-wide comparison/contrast of Frost’s poems
read the day before
Friday: Look for a different Robert Frost poem that has similar elements to one of the ones
previously read, analyze poem for other poetic devices
Use ofTechnology
Computer and projector for videos and PowerPoint/Prezi presentation
Poster boards for whole-class comparison/contrast
Computer Lab for Friday’s activity
