Photoshop Reflection
In this assignment we were to use Photoshop to manipulate an image into something we
can use for our unit plans. I Photoshopped a photo that is intended to reflect the central theme of
Robert Frost’s “Nothing Gold Can Stay;” that everything in nature, including humans, grow old.
Nothing can stay new and fresh forever. I used two photos of Robert Frost, one as a young man
and one as an old man, to illustrate this. I Photoshopped these versions of Frost into the original
photo of a landscape that I replaced the sky with a sunrise to show that nothing can stay new
forever. I added the lines of the poem to remind my students what the photo is actually about.
During this assignment I learned a lot about Photoshop, particularly through watching the
Lynda videos. There was plenty of frustration and anger when doing this project as well because
I am not by any means a Photoshop expert. It was useful in showing me more about how to
manipulate images to suit themes in my classroom as well. This can definitely be a useful tool in
my classroom, especially when it comes to doing creative portfolios. Photoshop is a great way to
let students have creative fun with some of their school projects.
