Shakespeare unit plan
This Shakespeare unit plan is for a class of 20 high school seniors, including 12 Caucasian and 8 African American students. The main objective is to teach Shakespeare in a way that prepares students for college study, while also covering aspects not usually included in high school. The unit breakdown includes learning about Shakespeare's life and background, analyzing sonnets through close reading, studying the play Othello over two days, and concluding with a class discussion. Various technologies will be used like posters, social media, videos, and interactive activities.
Wednesday assure
The teacher will educate 5th grade students on the Holocaust. Students will watch a video about Anne Frank, view an informational poster about her life, complete a webquest, and view links on Pinterest about Anne Frank and other victims. The teacher will use class discussions, a webquest, journaling, and Pinterest to engage students and ensure they understand how those targeted during the Holocaust were treated. She will evaluate students' learning through class discussions, assessing the accuracy of their webquest work, observing their conversations, and determining the creativity and critical thinking in their journal entries.
Thursday
The class will analyze Sonnet 60 through listening to a podcast of the teacher reading it. They will then use Second Life to virtually visit the Globe Theatre where Shakespeare's plays were originally performed. Students will download the podcast, lead discussions about the meaning of the sonnet, and work in groups to navigate Stratford and the Globe Theatre on Second Life.
Science fiction or science fact unit
This one-week unit introduces 6th grade students to the science fiction genre through readings, activities, discussions, and writing assignments. Students will explore how science fiction relates to real science and technology, identify characteristics of the genre, research influential authors, write their own short stories, and discuss how works of modern science fiction may predict future developments.
