Why Should Service Dogs Be Allowed In Schools
There is a reason people say dogs are a man s best friend. When I was younger, I was always afraid
that some bad guy would break into my house. This fear caused me to have nightmares and lose sleep.
Then I got a dog and I felt so much safer! Right now there is a case going to the Supreme Court to
decide if service dogs should be allowed in schools. Service dogs should be allowed in schools
because they help people with disabilities, they provide comfort to people, and because dogs are
frequently used in fields of medicine. If I found comfort with a dog, so can students with disabilities.
Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been
trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the
article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, Service animals are defined as dogs that are ... Show

Elena Fry, the girl who brought the lawsuit to the supreme court, needed assistance to go to the
restroom and she was not comfortable with an adult helping her. The associated press article states,
Elena was humiliated by having to go to the school bathroom with adults watching. She could have
gone alone if she had Wonder (her service animal) to help. (p. 3). Dogs have helped humans in various
medical fields for a long time. There are dogs that get experimental cancer treatments to see if they
would be safe for humans. There are dogs that are trained to sniff out cancer in a human and according
to the article by D. Becker, there are even service dogs who alert their owners when their blood sugar
is dropping dangerously low. (p.1). Some people think that service dogs should not be allowed in
schools because they are afraid. However they are wrong because service dogs are so well trained they
will not harm the students or other people in a

Synthesis Essay On Lgbtq
There has been some improvements made over the years, in a few categories that have heavily
impacted LGBTQ+ members. The first category is one many people overlook, legal issues. Second is
social change and how society s views and actions have changed. Last but certainly not least is, the
progression with homelessness. While examining LGBTQ+ issues it becomes clear that although the
ideal societal state has not yet been reached, progress has been made. A comparative assessment of the
past and present provides a clear understanding of the ongoing progression for this community of
people.
There has been quite a bit of progression made through laws and the removing of bans in Canada.
Starting from the darker side of the progression, homosexuality used to be punishable by death. As

LGBTQ+ Youth are overrepresented in the homeless youth population. The same group of people are
also underrepresented in homeless shelters. There is one main reason for why this is, many shelters are
not the most accepting to this group of people. This being said though brings me to this quote from an
anonymous person, Although we ve come to expect homelessness as an inescapable part of urban life,
there s no good reason it needs to be so. Unfortunately a lot of discrimination occurs in shelters. It can
range anywhere from others directly being mean to you because of your identity, to workers putting
you in the dorms that match your birth sex rather than your gender identity, and also bluntly not being
permitted access into the shelter because of something you can t control. Overtime this has slowly
changed, there is now a homeless shelter for LGBTQ+ Youth. They called it the Sprott Home. The
idea of it is it s a safe place for transitioning youth. Places like this are pretty rare but as society
becomes a more accepting place the need for them will hopefully die out, or they will be more
commonly found throughout

My Experience At Mills, Our Community Is Created And...
Una destinatio, viae diversae is the Mills motto. Translated, it means one destination, many paths. At

your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to gain from

Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my
twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, Make a wish! My eyes shut
and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to change
whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself confidence. I cannot
pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed with becoming someone
other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school hoping they would be my
catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of transformation,
but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my
wish became a faint memory.
Although I was only eight hours away from the Bay Area, the homesickness never left me. Longing
for my large intimate family find a community at my college was priority if I were to survive

Essay on The Other Side of Racism
The Other Side of Racism
When most people think of racism or supremacy, the images that come to their mind are white power
organizations that undermine blacks and other minorities. Groups such as the Knights of the Ku Klux
Klan, Skinheads and the White Nationalist Party may be some that come to mind. However, many
people are not aware of other racist organizations and powerful leaders that influence people other
than whites. A prime example of this is Louis Farrakahn, perhaps one of world s premier black
leaders, who condones racism against whites and people of different religions. The image of an
African American promoting racism among whites is not what society understands as a typical form of
racism. Despite this, Louis Farrakahn has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

leader of the Nation of Islam (NOI), Muhammad reached out to black youth to join the NOI and help
black America out of its white dominance. Louis joined the NOI and became known as Louis X. After
meeting the late Malcolm X, Louis became a follower, and listened closely to the words offered by
Malcolm X. Malcolm X became Louis s mentor and taught him the ideas of Muhammad. Years later,
Malcolm X left the Nation of Islam and denounced Elijah Muhammad. With this, Louis X made one
of his first and memorable lash outs. Malcolm shall not escape......Such a man is worthy of death. This
began the controversy he has so evidently provoked as a leader of the black community.
Upon the death of Elijah Muhammad, the NOI was faced with appointing a new leader. Wallace
Muhammad, Elijah s son, took over the NOI and presented some changes in the NOI s policies.
Unhappily, Louis formed his own group based upon the separatist teachings of Wallace s father Elijah
Muhammad. He traveled extensively in Africa and the Middle East in hopes of gaining support from
other Muslims. In the 1970 s, he coined the name Farrakhan and returned to the United States to
become active in the political scene. It was in 1984, when Jesse Jackson was campaigning that
Farrakahn hit the political scene. He became an avid supporter of Jackson s run for President. While

Paraphilic Disorder Research Paper
Although the disorder is categorized into many different types of specific paraphilia, the
characteristics of the illness are often very similar. At first, the disorder may seem like a regular fetish
or a sexual fantasy of an individual. However, if an individual is going through guilt, distress,
depression, or any sense of immorality from his/her particular interest, the signs of the Paraphilic
disorder becomes more explicit. As the individual relieves himself/herself from engaging in paraphilic

The Comanche Campaign was a generalization of multiple battles and wars between the United States
government and the Comanche tribes. Most of the wars were fought between 1867 and 1875 in the

numerous expeditions until the Comanche people surrounded and surrendered. After peace was
established between the Natives and the United States, the Comanche people were relocated to a

Cultural Tension In Rocky IV And Office Space
Throughout history, Americans have dealt with cultural and social tensions in a number of ways. For
several decades, the nation was manipulated by fear and paranoia as the shadow of Soviet influence
continued to loom large in everyone s life. Rocky IV (1985) is an American sports film written by,
directed, and starring Sylvester Stallone. Rocky IV tells the story of world champion American boxer
Rocky Balboa (Stallone) seeking to avenge the death of a friend and defend his country s honor by
daring to travel to the Soviet Union and fight their best athlete on enemy soil. Director Mike Judge s
1999 comedy film Office Space depicts a different kind of enemy in modern America, as it satirizes
the daily grind of a typical software company and its disgruntled employees in the 1990s. By

The Warfare During The American Civil War
The conduct of warfare during the American Civil War best exemplified one characteristic of the
Western way of war, which without its incorporation could have drastically changed the outcome of
the war and the existence of the United States as we know it. This characteristic demonstrated is
innovation. Innovation as a characteristic of the Western way of war best exemplifies the American
Civil War based on the telegraph, the rifled musket and the railroad. Had the Union and United States
government not leveraged the above mentioned technologies the outcome of the war could have
resulted in the division of this country. From the onset of the Civil War the South possessed two
advantages. One was geography and the other was that it did not have to win the war. The vastness of
the United State presented command and control challenges and logistical challenge for both Union
and Confederal forces. This before mentioned challenge played into the Confederate forces other
advantage which was they could simple keep the Union forces to a draw during the war and thus
ensuring their future as an independent country. For the Union forces to overcome the challenge of
geography and to not result in a draw they used innovations such as the telegraph to communicate
orders to Soldiers over vast distances and thus making geography and the tyranny of distance a less of
an advantage for the Confederate forces. The ability for leadership to convey timely orders to their

A Description of the Learning Organisation Within the a E...
The concept of a learning organization knows its roots back to Garratt in 1987, which later on in the
late 90 s was revived by Peter Senge. Senge (1990) focuses on the organization acting as a unit where
innovative ideas are generated and common goals are reached. Collective commitment of the team is
fundamental. Furthermore, according to Senge (1990), the organization must go through 5 domains in
order to reach the productivity of a learning organization: systems thinking, personal mastery, mental
models, building shared vision and team learning. Therefore it is clear that organizational learning
goes beyond knowledge. This notion involves the process of action and reflection (Carroll amp;
Edmondson, 2002) or action learning (Revans, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately the A amp;E department allocates very little time to cater for open dialogue sessions.
Although there is a great sense of teamwork amongst the multidisciplinary team, discussions are
usually done at the managerial level. Furthermore there are instances where staff feels threatened to
voice their perspective (Sheaff amp; Pilgrim, 2006). In fact as described by Snell, 2002, a hierarchy
could be dangerous to a learning organization. Leaders should be the gatekeepers of the organization
culture making them accessible (Snell, 2002). One issue leaders of the A amp;E department may not
be sensitive to the psychological aspect of nurses. A day full of heart touching situations can bring a
surge of emotions which maybe hard for an individual to cope with. As suggested by Stinson, et al.,
2006, time to smell the roses , is the opportunity where staff can find time to reflect and enjoy leisure
activities together. This is also makes way for a better relationship between staff members, which in
turn gives a quality patient care. Another troublesome issue concerning the A amp;E is the fact that
parts of the A amp;E department are being used as a ward. This is both creating unsafe nursing
practice and is in the way of emergency nursing care. This issue is attracting media and public
criticism that in turn leads to job dissatisfaction. This all creates a viscous cycle, which ultimately
affects the patient care.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Positive Displacement Pumps
By allowing fluid to flow into closed cavity from a source with low pressure, trapping the fluid and
then force it into a receiver which is high pressure by decreasing the volume of cavity is the positive
displacement pumps work. P.D. pumps have their own advantages and disadvantages but there are a
few pros and cons of these pumps that are similar to each other.
Advantages of P.D. pumps
A highly viscous fluid can be easily handled by a couple rotary technologies and air operated piston
pumps. In centrifugal pumps their flow rate and efficiency start to drop above 500 SSU. This is due to
high friction losses in centrifugal pump. However in rotary pump, the flow and efficiency will
typically increase with viscosity. In addition, fluids with viscosities more than several millions SSU

Inherently, positive displacement pumps necessarily need safety or pressure relief pumps because the
principle of operation does not include a pressure restriction. However, it is only possible using
complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation. Besides
that, compare to centrifugal pumps, positive displacement pumps which are oscillated are less suitable
for high speeds. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive displacement
pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener.
The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions with
valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating positive
displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with centrifugal
pump. The major disadvantage of positive displacement pump is pump stroke is manually set by
adjusting the collar for determination of the volumes. It is generally less accurate and less easily
repeatable if it is manual

The Impact Of Organizational Activity On The Performance...
The preeminent feature of organizational activity is its programmed character: behavior is an
enactment of (more or less) pre established routines: At any given time, a government consists of
existing organizations, each with a fix set of standard operating procedures and programs. The
behavior of these organization and consequently of the government is therefore, determine primarily
by routines established in these organizations prior to that instance . (Allison 1971: 81) The more
standardized these procedures are, the less discretionary is to carry them out. The downside is that
responses may become less appropriate to surprising and non expected events. The 27F crisis is a
suitable case to analyze the performance of a large scale organization like the State and its patterns of
response to external problems. Allison s model establishes that to perform complex routines, the
behavior of a large number of individuals must be coordinated and that such coordination requires
standard operating procedures: rules that determine what/how things are done. I will add that SORs
never self generated but depends on leaders that decided which organizations, what programs and
where to proceed. Hence, reliable performance of action that depends upon the behavior of hundreds
of persons requires well established programs (Allison, 1971). In this case, there was a protocol in
place that clearly indicated those responsible for gathering, analyzing and communicating the
information.

What It s Like To Be A Gang Member, By Bill Lee And We...
In both What It s Like to be a Gang Member, by Bill Lee and We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks,
gang life is portrayed as dangerous and violent, demonstrating that gang members have to find a way
to compensate and prevent themselves from going overboard. Both passages show the toughness
required to be in a gang, along with the challenges the members face, such as peer pressure.
In the article What It s Like to be a Gang Member, by Bill Lee, gang activity is described in detail, and
the struggles of membership are shown clearly. For example, ...when your buddies are jumping
someone, there was immense peer pressure to join in, whether you wanted to or not. This shows that
some gang members would do atrocious things just to fit in, not because they actually wanted to do it.
Beginning in the mid 1960 s, the violence in my neighborhood escalated, and by 1970, a major gang
war had erupted. This quote tells us that things got out of hand and daily life started to get more and
more fatal until a fight took place. They didn t hold themselves back when traumatizing others. I

as cool , and it also shows that gangsters would drop out of or skip school, which is a careless act,
since education is very important for youths. We lurk late. We strike straight. This simple quote shows
that gang members would get in trouble late at night and get involved with risky activities. We die

Thomas Hobbes Perfect Social Contract
Hello Professor and Fellow Classmates,
With the topic of the discussion for this week, I agree with the ideas of both the philosophy. They have
some good point of views that I think if we could combine them together, we would have a perfect
Social Contract. Hobbes created Social Contract in the 17th Century when the world was wild and
dangerous to him. People was too self interested that they would do whatever it took to survive. He
called it state of nature , a place where life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short . He believed that
we need Social Contract and a good government to protect and guide us. His purpose was to bring
safety, freedom, and peaceful environment to the society. Therefore, he believed we are all self

The (8 5) USC Trojans have arrived, 120 miles south of Los Angeles returning to San Diego, CA to
play the (9 3) 23rd ranked Wisconsin Badgers in the 38th annual National Funding Holiday Bowl at
Qualcomm Stadium. As a matter of fact, this contest is definitely not the desired Rose Bowl, although
it does provide the traditional Pac 12 versus the Big Ten matchup for the second year in a row. This
meeting is the first Holiday Bowl for the Badgers. The Pac 12 South Champion Trojans have won all
six meetings with the Badgers, including a 38 3 home win for USC in 1966. This contest will be the

Retirement Financial Planners
Many people would want to know how much money they need to retire. While this is a common
question financial planners such as Scott Storick deal with more frequently, there is usually no
definitive answer. It is not easy to determine how much you need when you retire, and it depends on
many factors and individual financial circumstances. Everyone has a different financial need for their
retirement, and what you may need will mostly likely be different from what other people need.
Nonetheless, while your individual situation may be unique, you can still estimate how much you need
to survive throughout your retirement age.
Here are a few guidelines to help you make a wise decision. Remember that working closely with a

Some people may be looking forward to buy a new house or travel when they retire. Others may be
faced with health conditions that increase their healthcare cost. These are things that will stretch your
retirement financial kit and exhaust it even before long.
Examine your expected income expenses in retirement
It is paramount you examine the projected income expenses you will meet when you retire. You may
want to identify the streams of income you have including the social security, pensions, and bank
savings. Determine whether by the time you retire, you will have paid fully your mortgage or you will
still be paying it off.
Also find out whether you will be making large purchases such as buying a home or moving to
another location. Inflation may still take its toll on your savings, therefore make sure you account for
it. When you use the 80 percent pre retirement income rule and further subject it to these expected
income expenses, you are likely to come up with a more appropriate figure.
In the event that you don t have enough money saved for retirement, you should start planning on how
you will make changes. When it is a few years away from retirement, consider increasing your IRA

World Systems Theory in Archaeology Essay
These papers deal with the world systems theory of Wallerstien s article as well as the other specialists
criticisms on it. They bring up basically three main ideas, which first off, include the significant role
of the periphery in the core periphery relationship. Secondly, the need to focus on internal and local
affects on interrelations between different polities instead of concentrating on the external and
generalized role of interaction. Lastly, they demand a model that is diversified enough to allow for
analyzation of various levels of interaction between different groups.
In Halls article, he points out that this theory has a few weaknesses, such as its basis is on only one
situation of modern times, which does not always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the first step in achieving a paradigm, he states Chase Dunn s suggestion that the empirical
denominations of the world system theory s assumptions must be developed. Hall emphasizes other
points that should be incorporated in a new methodology, which are not already present to the world
systems theory by Wallenstein. One aspect is that each of system s units works in relation to the whole
system; they do not develop on their own. Another is that each system is a world within itself; that its
internal factors are just as important in its progress as the external factors affecting it. Other points that
must be realized to achieve better understanding of past political social interaction, is to learn the
positive aspects of expansion and incorporation and the role of peripheral and semi peripheral states,
as well as the ramifications of incorporation on the system.
He includes some various world systems theories as examples in order to emphasize the different the
facets that they can take such as being based on war, technological innovation, geopolitics etc. The
incorporation of diverse models that concentrate on certain facets of the system into what he calls the
iteration model , will ultimately lead to a better understanding of social evolution.
At the same time, Hall realizes the importance of the core periphery in the study of social evolution.
Contrary to the world systems model is

The capstone report that I decided that I wanted to read is Nydera A. Washington class of 1995. Her
topic is My Family Tree. The items that make up her honors portfolio are as follows; All In The
Family, An Unforgettable Summer, The Ethics of Medicine, Deadly Temptation, The Evolution of
Gospel Music, An Honor s College Reflection. I absolutely enjoyed reading Ms. Washington capstone
and not because she is originally from New Jersey. Ms. Washington begins her capstone examining
her ancestor background. She sums up her family s success in the last paragraph by stating, my family
has both triumphed and struggled, some courageously faced the oppression of their day [...] embracing
arms of the white race. Washington moves on to discuss one of her worst summers at the University of
Rochester. She participated in this research since her freshman and she felt that she did considerably
well. However, the energy was very negative at the predominantly white institutions. When she spoke
about her goals and aspirations in a learning environment she was frowned upon. Next she conducted

The Life and Contribution to the Development of the British Empire of James Cook
I) Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to describe the life and the contribution to the development of the British
Empire of one of the most important English explorers. It was in the second half of the 18th century
when James Cook, originally a poor farm boy, explored and mapped vast uncharted areas of the
Pacific and the Atlantic Ocean. However, James Cook was not only an explorer. He can also be called
a scientist he managed to introduce new principles into seafaring and cartography.
For better understanding, the paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction,

Such a structure of commerce enabled the immense growth of wealth of the country.
An imperial enthusiasm the British found out that they could grow rich from the trade with their
colonies. As a result it led to a constant, unending search for new markets for British products, new
trading centres and eventually, new lands to settle their surplus criminals and poor, unemployed
citizens.
New inventions in navigation these inventions had a profound influence, not only upon Britain, but
even upon much of the rest of the world. John Hadley s invention of the reflecting quadrant made it
possible to determine the latitude at noon or by night. Extremely accurate, it was quickly adopted by
the admiralty (1730). John Harrison s ship chronometer was to revolutionise the world s shipping
(1736). A new method of combating scurvy was found James Lind recommended to use citrus juice
(1747) and finally, John Campbell introduced the new sextant to the Royal Navy (1757). All of these
inventions helped to create Britain s naval supremacy.
A new philosophical approach the 18th century in Western Europe is the beginning of the Age of
Reason, the philosophers and scientists stressed the value of global discovery, of learning more about
the earth and of collecting unusual flora and fauna from around the globe.
Thus Great Britain established (or

Francisco De Goya Black Paintings
Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and
unsettling images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or Saturn
Devouring One of His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring eyes,
gaping mouth and half eaten son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist to
create an image like this. Goya, however, was not uneducated in the horrors of the world, witnessing
the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving two life
threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and the death of six of his seven children.
Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him to conceiving this
disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three.
At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry
cartoons from the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his
more popular paintings were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the popular
Rococo style, brought him to the attention of the aristocracy of Spain. In 1789, he was appointed to
court painter to Charles IV and then the following year, he became First Court Painter. His portraits of
the king, queen and royal family, were anything but flattering. While he was given this great position
of influence and prestige, he

Examples Of Competent Evidence
1) Competent evidence is described by Ingram as the quality of evidence that is offered which makes
it proper to be received (p. 29). Two examples of competent evidence: murder weapon with
fingerprints of the suspect on them, and secondly a sworn written statement confessing to a crime.
Incompetent evidence is evidence that was obtained illegally or is considered to be incompetent by
some court established statute. Two examples of incompetent evidence: murder weapon found in a car
as a result of an illegal search and seizure, and secondly anything deemed immaterial or not relevant
due to its lack of authenticity or any evidence that has a defect of some kind. Ingram, Jefferson.

explains her difficulties in life through an idea which pairs softness with attractiveness. She portrays
herself as a victim of the demands that the weak be attractive. But the truth is that the abuse and
complexities of life have forced Blanche to toughen up. Her use of the phrase turn the trick is a
significant line in the excerpt, being an old idiom implying promiscuous relationships. Here she is
referring to her dark and shameful incidents that occurred after her husband s death, which she kept
hidden from Stella. Tennessee Williams uses symbolism and imagery to help convey the idea that
Blanche is deceptive, egotistical and seductive. For example, wearing a white dress in this scene
deceives people of being innocent and pure. As Blanche feels she must be devious in order to

Hydrogels were the first biomaterials developed to use in the human body (Kopeček, 2007). As stated
by Sood et. al (2009), hydrogels are a very complex hydrophilic organic cross linked polymers which
consist of between 80 and 90% water base. An example of a commercial hydrogel is IntraSiteĀ® Gel,
developed by Smith and Nephew, shown in Figure 1 below. IntraSiteĀ® Gel is an amorphous hydrogel
and gently rehydrates necrotic tissues, helping autolytic debridement, and also is able to loosen and
absorb slough and exudate (Smith nephew.com, 2015).Hydrogels are able to absorb a minimum
amount of fluid by swelling, in addition they can moisturize a dry wound, thereby promoting autolytic
debridement and providing a moist thermally insulated wound. In addition, they are capable to reduce
the temperature of a wound by up to 5Ā°C and promote epithelialization and granulation. However,
since they are permeable to gas and water, they are considered less effective bacterial barrier than
occlusive dressings (Sood et. al 2009). The main applications of hydrogels are the ability to donate
moisture to the wound, help disintegrate dry and dead tissue, and keep wound bed moist to help cell
growth (Covidien.com, 2015). Another benefit includes the ability to use them in conjunction with
topical medications or antibacterial agents. Regarding their drawbacks, they are unable to

The Soviet Union
Gain of Prestige The Soviet Union was already setting up a unique standard of gender roles and
gender equality, so the reinforced emphasis on fertility created an interesting return to traditional
gender stereotypes. Despite the resurgence of the traditional ideal, the 1936 Decree was able to
emphasize motherhood and nurturing without limiting women to the more feminine role. Instead, what
occurred was the super heroine role, where the women s maternity and industrial capital were both
valued. Women were given both higher recognition for their role as a mother and also allowed to
remain independent through her industrial power. The emphasis on the mother figure was seen
throughout the whole 1936 decree, but most blatantly through the Mother Heroine awards. The
Mother Heroine awards were an official government run propaganda scheme set up by the Stalinist
regime, in the form of medals given out to mothers based on the amount of children they had. A
mother with five to six children received a Motherhood Medal. A mother with seven to nine children
received a Mother Glory award, and a mother with ten or more children gained the highest
achievement, the Mother Heroine award. Those who received the Mother Heroine award were also
given a special certificate of the Praesidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. The Mother Heroine
awards didn t offer economic compensation for child bearing, but they did offer official, government

positive and sees African Americans as friends. While Tucker sees them as outcasts of society, he

differences and some things they have in common. In conclusion, I believe that Miriam is more free

Many people give the thrash metal band Metallica the cold shoulder whenever they hear their name in
conversation. Most go right to thinking of The Black Album and how it worked its way onto the radio
waves, and that Metallica is a run of the mill metal band that got lucky by writing a more mainstream
album. However, since the early 1980 s they were already fairly well known around the world even
having not really written songs appropriate for radio play. Most fans of the band before their

Already being known, Metallica moved its center of operation to San Francisco. This was where they
began to set up an enormous underground fan base. Having the advantage of coming first before most
thrash bands and also releasing albums before most of them were on the map meant great success. By
1984 Metallica had already released Kill Em All and Ride the Lightning and later that year signed
with Elektra Records. By 1988 Metallica released ...And Justice for All and by that time their
underground fan following was colossal. Also, having the song One from that album made into a
music video aided in their media coverage. This song had been the first true song of theirs to be heard
on mainstream radio stations. By the arrival of The Black Album Metallica was huge of course, but
wanted to take it a step further. They changed their sound and abandoned almost all of their thrash
metal roots to a majority of songs that were radio friendly. The shorter length songs as well as
prevalence of ballads made it a commercial success. Many of their hardcore underground fans felt that
Metallica had turned their backs on their fan base and were now a mainstream heavy metal act. Older
records still sold quite well due to their choice to continue playing their songs at live events. Some of
the raised interest in their previous albums was also due to many people now discovering Metallica
from The Black Album. Metallica

War of attrition is defined as a prolonged war or conflict during which each side seeks to gradually

political climate and many other factors which influence sustainment operations. The United States,
currently has troops deployed to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, Antarctica, Australia, and home

operations in North and South America, and deterring the Russian threat in Europe. All of these

INTUITION
Abstract
Intuition has rarely been given the credit it deserves, even when numerous experiments over the past
decades has shown it to be a complex and detailed subconscious process, rather than the pseudo
science many still believe it to be. Despite the success of intuition as a decision maker, the ideology
that we should trust logic first and hunches second often wins out. While intuition has been known to
lead to mistakes, known as Warren Harding Errors, it s often more reliable than logical, thought out
problem solving. Ignorance as to the true nature of intuition has led to a societal ideology that values
the conscious over the subconscious, and regards intuition as a lesser emotion that isn t to be trusted.
However, there is, in fact, science to support the reliability of intuition. Gut feelings are a result of the
ventromedial prefrontal cortex, located directly behind the nose, which sorts and prioritizes
information, and runs all relevant information through the subconscious, which uses an analyzation of
past events and calculates the best course of action. This process manifests as intuition.

The Gun Show Loophole
Since the Brady Act was introduced in 1998, we know that there have been approximately two
hundred and thirty million background screenings done to date. However, imagine how many more
could have been completed if the right laws were in place for unlicensed dealers. The laws that are in
place today are lacking at best, therefore a major issue with purchasing these firearms happen at gun
shows, which is also known as the gun show loophole. In an article, written by Mark Duggan of the
MIT Press, states that THOUSANDS of gun shows take place in the United States each year. Gun
control advocates argue that the gun show loophole makes it easier for potential criminals to obtain a
gun; the loophole basically allows unlicensed vendors at gun shows to sell firearms without
conducting background checks on purchasers. (Duggan) A twenty one year old cannot even walk into
a bar or a liquor store and purchase alcohol without the proper identification, nevertheless someone
with a known criminal background or a person with a history of mental illness can walk straight into a
gun show and purchase deadly weapons without even flashing an identification card, but per our
government laws, that s completely legal.
Gun lobbyist continue to stand by their gun shows though, they cite a U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics

Cache And Various Mapping Technique
Abstract This paper begins with the discussion about cache and various mapping technique. Then we
shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request
from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary
memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the
pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to
fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the
performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we
discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Lastly we discuss few open
and challenging issues faced in various cache optimization techniques.

were a highly religious group of people with a variety of literary works. The Puritans had no single

their literary works were the prominent between 1620 to 1783. The purpose of Puritan literature was
to apprise both his neighbor and his fellow Englishman across the sea of recent events taking place in

advantages, it has brought a lot of negative impact to our society.
1.2 Definition of the internet
The word Internet comes from the words Interconnection of Networks (Greenfield, 1999). According
to One book projects, the Internet is a worldwide interconnection of computer networks that transmit
information from one place to another using the standard Internet Protocol. It is also knwn as the Net.
In order to understand how the internet has an impact to our day to day lives, one needs to understand
its history.

The Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers were not included in the study because the emphasis of
the research is placed on the younger more diverse work force. Several research questions will be
answered to achieve the stated purpose of this research. By applying statistical procedure of
multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to the Work Values Inventory (Super 1970) a
measurement can be made of the null hypothesis showing the mean vector of 15 work values.
Univariate tests of each variable were used to address the other research questions: 1. Creativity 2.
Management 3. Achievement 4. Surroundings 5. Supervisory relations 6. Way of life 7. Security 8.
Associates 9. Esthetics 10. Prestige 11. Independence 12. Variety 13. Economic return 14. Altruism;
and 15. Intellectual stimulation (Super, 1970). According to Murphy, Conoley, Impara (1994) the
Work Values Inventory is designed to measure the values which are extrinsic to as well as those which
are intrinsic in work (p. 998). The survey is developed using a 5 point Likert style and is ranked by the
participants as follows: 5 = Very Important 4 = Important 3 = Moderately Important 2 = Of Little
Importance 1 = Unimportant INSTRUMENT The instrument chosen to measure the work values of
Gen X and the Millenniums was the Work Values Inventory (WWI: Super, 1970) and in Chapter 3 of
this proposal for

How Millercoors Creates Up Porter s Five Forces
The fourth force that makes up Porter s Five Forces is the bargaining power of buyers. For
MillerCoors specifically, the main buyers are distributors. The distributor controls the price by setting
it on profit margins. In addition, distributors are consolidating and increasing in power. For example,
in 1970 there were 5,000 distributors; today there are only 2,500 distributors. The distributors are also
eliminating new competition. Two examples of this are how MillerCoors puts pressure on itself to
carry its own brand and how there are more and more regulations on beer. Because of these reasons,
there is more power to current distributors than there was in the past.
The fifth and final force is the threat of new entry. One of the ... Show more content on

Some of the weaknesses that I could think of are that the company has one very large competitor that
represents 50 percent of the market share instead of several semi large competitors, so gaining the
majority of the market share is a difficult task. The second weakness is that the beer brewing industry
has slow industry growth, while the wine industry is growing much more rapidly. In terms of
opportunities and threats, MillerCoors has several opportunities that it could capitalize on. The
opportunities that stand out to me are the foreign market explosive growth, financial markets,
innovation, and increasing the awareness of sustainability issues among consumers and employees. If
MillerCoors took advantage of these opportunities, it would find great success in several different
realms of the competitive market. As far as threats go, there are three main ones that face MillerCoors.
The first one is the competition that the company faces, the second one is the overall falling beer
consumption that is happening worldwide, and the third one is the growing popularity of
microbreweries and craft beer. These threats can also be seen as opportunities, though, such as homing
in on the creation of more microbreweries in its market to keep up with the growing popularity and

Gender Theory And Standpoint Theory
Gender Theory and Standpoint Theory
Kean University
Spring 2015
Anastasia Mendola
Society should be socially acceptable to all members of it no matter where they works, how much
money they have, or don t have, the color of their skin, there sexual orientation, where the
geographically live, etc. when it comes to topic of this nature, most people are very hesitant and don t
want to talk about it. Is it because they know that there are problems that need to be fixed, or because
they know that no matter how much you talk about the topics it s a lot harder to change the way
society is than to just accept it and let it be. The paper discussed the two theories of standpoint theory
and the gender theory. They both are present in everyday society but it just isn t that clear at all times.
When most people think about the job that they have now or that they will have in the future, they don
t think about that where they stand in society will be based off of what one solely knows. That is
referring to the standpoint theory. The one main person that helped develop standpoint theory was
Dorothy E. Smith. She was born in Great Britain in 1926. She worked as a secretary at a publishing
company before she decided to try to get a better job by getting a college degree. She began college at
the London School of Economics in 1951, and she received her bachelor s degree in sociology from
the London School of Economics in 1955 (Feminist). Smith says that although her years at

Equity Yield
We have forecasted the equity yield to be earned by the equity investor to be approximately
$4,099,171.51 based upon the assumption of a required 18% return. The results are summarized in the
following table.
Conclusion
In determining the potential feasibility of the Fairfield of Tallahassee, we analyzed the lodging market,
researched the area s economics, reviewed the estimated development cost, and prepared a forecast of
income and expense. Given the assumptions made in the content of this report the equity and debt
investor should be provided a positive return which confirms the feasibility of the acquisition for the

What Are Wes Anderson s Auteur Theory
Auteur Theory Wes Anderson Case Study
Wes Anderson, an American director widely known for his idiosyncratic films, is the epitome of an
auteur. However, what does being an auteur entail, and why are directors like Anderson (and e.g.
Woody Allen, Akira Kurosawa or Alfred Hitchcock) separate from metteur en scenes or those simply
regarded as filmmakers? To even begin justifying Anderson s auteur status, prior knowledge of the
history of auteur theory and its intended function is essential. Authorship was introduced by filmmaker
Francois Truffaut, a catalyst of the French New Wave (1958 1962), to advocate that ...a great director
speaks through his films no less than a master novelist speaks through his books... (Powell, 2010, para
8). It is also used to address the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Notes on the Auteur Theory (1962), film critic Andrew Sarris formalised auteurs theory by
explaining the auteur, the main creative force behind a film, must consistently demonstrate three
premises: technical competence, personal style and interior meaning (Sarris, 1962). Wes Anderson
accomplishes all of these criterions of value. Each of his films, which are inspired by personal
experiences, are concerned with triggering nostalgia through ...common themes of childhood,
adolescence, maturity, desire, friendship, male bonding... , the trappings of wealth/luxury and familial
dysfunction (Dilley, 2017, pp16). As such, by analysing key scenes from throughout Anderson s
oeuvre of work, one can see how Anderson s auteur status is justified. For the purpose of remaining
succinct, key scenes will be drawn from only Rushmore (1998),

Essay On Animal Farm By George Orwell
An ideology is a set of opinions or beliefs of a group or an individual. Very often ideology refers to a
set of political beliefs or a set of ideas. Our ideology is our most closely held set of values and
feelings, and it acts as the filter through which we see everything and everybody. Introduction:
Description: Old Major is discussing his hate and the injustice upon the animals at Manor Farm and
his beliefs and ideology. This was the creation of Animalism or what we call Communism. Enmity:
The state or the feeling of being hostile or opposed to someone or something. Vices: Unjust or
immoral behavior. Tyrannise: Rule or treat someone cruelly or immorally Thesis: The passage is a set
of beliefs and rules made by OId Major, this greatly exemplifies a communist society because he
believes that all animals are equal or in a society, all humans are equal. In a communist society,
everyone is equal, they are paid the same wage, treated the same and so on. We can see the similarities
between the actions in the book compared to actions in the real world, the animals rebel against the
unjust humans and will no longer work for them and in the real world, the workers rebel against the
bourgeoisie and unite everyone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Main Ideas/Themes: Equality: In the passage, Old Major mentions that no animal must tyrannize one
another and respect each other because they are all equal. Hatred: Old Major mentions multiple times
his hatred towards man, he says that man is an enemy and while fighting man they must never become
one, such as wearing clothes, drinking alcohol or smoking

  • 2. Why Should Service Dogs Be Allowed In Schools There is a reason people say dogs are a man s best friend. When I was younger, I was always afraid that some bad guy would break into my house. This fear caused me to have nightmares and lose sleep. Then I got a dog and I felt so much safer! Right now there is a case going to the Supreme Court to decide if service dogs should be allowed in schools. Service dogs should be allowed in schools because they help people with disabilities, they provide comfort to people, and because dogs are frequently used in fields of medicine. If I found comfort with a dog, so can students with disabilities. Dogs are not just cute and fuzzy friends. Since it has been thousands of years that dogs have been trained to do things for humans, we can now count on dogs to do very specific jobs. For example, the article from the U.S. Department of Justice says, Service animals are defined as dogs that are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (p. 3). Dogs have helped humans in various medical fields for a long time. There are dogs that get experimental cancer treatments to see if they would be safe for humans. There are dogs that are trained to sniff out cancer in a human and according to the article by D. Becker, there are even service dogs who alert their owners when their blood sugar is dropping dangerously low. (p.1). Some people think that service dogs should not be allowed in schools because they are afraid. The first category is one many people overlook, legal issues. Second is social change and how society s views and actions have changed. Last but certainly not least is, the progression with homelessness. While examining LGBTQ+ issues it becomes clear that although the ideal societal state has not yet been reached, progress has been made. A comparative assessment of the past and present provides a clear understanding of the ongoing progression for this community of people. There has been quite a bit of progression made through laws and the removing of bans in Canada. Starting from the darker side of the progression, homosexuality used to be punishable by death. The same group of people are also underrepresented in homeless shelters. There is one main reason for why this is, many shelters are not the most accepting to this group of people. This being said though brings me to this quote from an anonymous person, Although we ve come to expect homelessness as an inescapable part of urban life, there s no good reason it needs to be so. Unfortunately a lot of discrimination occurs in shelters. It can range anywhere from others directly being mean to you because of your identity, to workers putting you in the dorms that match your birth sex rather than your gender identity, and also bluntly not being permitted access into the shelter because of something you can t control. Overtime this has slowly changed, there is now a homeless shelter for LGBTQ+ Youth. They called it the Sprott Home. The idea of it is it s a safe place for transitioning youth. Places like this are pretty rare but as society becomes a more accepting place the need for them will hopefully die out, or they will be more commonly found throughout ... At Mills, our community is created and sustained by the many unique paths of our students. How has your path led you to Mills? What will you bring to our community, and what do you hope to gain from your time here? Before my eyelids blazed eighteen candles as family and friends chimed Las Mananitas around my twin sister and I. Cheers and chants from all sides, as my cousin yells out, Make a wish! My eyes shut and I repeated the wish I had for the last three years. Taking a deep breath in, I wish to change whispered from the recesses of my mind. My teen years were difficult on myself confidence. I cannot pinpoint the moment I stopped liking the person I was, and became obsessed with becoming someone other than myself. I searched for communities throughout high school hoping they would be my catalyst with no avail. As I entered college, I hoped Los Angeles would be my place of transformation, but adjusting to my new college environment proved challenging and as the semester wore on my wish became a faint memory. However, many people are not aware of other racist organizations and powerful leaders that influence people other than whites. A prime example of this is Louis Farrakahn, perhaps one of world s premier black leaders, who condones racism against whites and people of different religions. The Warfare During The American Civil War The conduct of warfare during the American Civil War best exemplified one characteristic of the Western way of war, which without its incorporation could have drastically changed the outcome of the war and the existence of the United States as we know it. Innovation as a characteristic of the Western way of war best exemplifies the American Civil War based on the telegraph, the rifled musket and the railroad. Had the Union and United States government not leveraged the above mentioned technologies the outcome of the war could have resulted in the division of this country. From the onset of the Civil War the South possessed two advantages. One was geography and the other was that it did not have to win the war. The vastness of the United State presented command and control challenges and logistical challenge for both Union and Confederal forces. This before mentioned challenge played into the Confederate forces other advantage which was they could simple keep the Union forces to a draw during the war and thus ensuring their future as an independent country. For the Union forces to overcome the challenge of geography and to not result in a draw they used innovations such as the telegraph to communicate orders to Soldiers over vast distances and thus making geography and the tyranny of distance a less of an advantage for the Confederate forces. The concept of a learning organization knows its roots back to Garratt in 1987, which later on in the late 90 s was revived by Peter Senge. Senge (1990) focuses on the organization acting as a unit where innovative ideas are generated and common goals are reached. Collective commitment of the team is fundamental. Furthermore, according to Senge (1990), the organization must go through 5 domains in order to reach the productivity of a learning organization: systems thinking, personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision and team learning. Therefore it is clear that organizational learning goes beyond knowledge. This notion involves the process of action and reflection (Carroll amp; Edmondson, 2002) or action learning (Revans, ... Although there is a great sense of teamwork amongst the multidisciplinary team, discussions are usually done at the managerial level. Furthermore there are instances where staff feels threatened to voice their perspective (Sheaff amp; Pilgrim, 2006). In fact as described by Snell, 2002, a hierarchy could be dangerous to a learning organization. Leaders should be the gatekeepers of the organization culture making them accessible (Snell, 2002). One issue leaders of the A amp;E department may not be sensitive to the psychological aspect of nurses. A day full of heart touching situations can bring a surge of emotions which maybe hard for an individual to cope with. However, it is only possible using complex mass balancing in oscillating positive displacement pumps vibration free operation. It is also a requirement to have a pulsating flow as when the positive displacement pumps oscillate, it is a pulsation dampener. The disadvantage in more complicated and complex designs is there are fault prone constructions with valves that will cause it the stop working at some point. Other than that, in an oscillating positive displacement pumps, there will be a larger number of wear parts if it is compared with centrifugal pump. • 21. The Impact Of Organizational Activity On The Performance... The preeminent feature of organizational activity is its programmed character: behavior is an enactment of (more or less) pre established routines: At any given time, a government consists of existing organizations, each with a fix set of standard operating procedures and programs. The behavior of these organization and consequently of the government is therefore, determine primarily by routines established in these organizations prior to that instance . (Allison 1971: 81) The more standardized these procedures are, the less discretionary is to carry them out. The downside is that responses may become less appropriate to surprising and non expected events. The 27F crisis is a suitable case to analyze the performance of a large scale organization like the State and its patterns of response to external problems. Allison s model establishes that to perform complex routines, the behavior of a large number of individuals must be coordinated and that such coordination requires standard operating procedures: rules that determine what/how things are done. I will add that SORs never self generated but depends on leaders that decided which organizations, what programs and where to proceed. Hence, reliable performance of action that depends upon the behavior of hundreds of persons requires well established programs (Allison, 1971). In this case, there was a protocol in place that clearly indicated those responsible for gathering, analyzing and communicating the information. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In both What It s Like to be a Gang Member, by Bill Lee and We Real Cool, by Gwendolyn Brooks, gang life is portrayed as dangerous and violent, demonstrating that gang members have to find a way to compensate and prevent themselves from going overboard. Both passages show the toughness required to be in a gang, along with the challenges the members face, such as peer pressure. In the article What It s Like to be a Gang Member, by Bill Lee, gang activity is described in detail, and the struggles of membership are shown clearly. For example, ...when your buddies are jumping someone, there was immense peer pressure to join in, whether you wanted to or not. This shows that some gang members would do atrocious things just to fit in, not because they actually wanted to do it. Beginning in the mid 1960 s, the violence in my neighborhood escalated, and by 1970, a major gang war had erupted. This quote tells us that things got out of hand and daily life started to get more and more fatal until a fight took place. They didn t hold themselves back when traumatizing others. They have some good point of views that I think if we could combine them together, we would have a perfect Social Contract. Hobbes created Social Contract in the 17th Century when the world was wild and dangerous to him. People was too self interested that they would do whatever it took to survive. He called it state of nature , a place where life is solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short . He believed that we need Social Contract and a good government to protect and guide us. Francisco De Goya Black Paintings Francisco de Goya s Pinturas negras, or Black Paintings, are some of the most grotesque and unsettling images in art history, with one painting in particular, Saturno devorando a su hijo, or Saturn Devouring One of His Sons, standing out the most amongst them all. With his wildly staring eyes, gaping mouth and half eaten son in his hands, it makes one wonder what would drive an artist to create an image like this. Goya, however, was not uneducated in the horrors of the world, witnessing the travesties of the Peninsular War, the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, surviving two life threatening illnesses, with one leaving him completely deaf, and the death of six of his seven children. Perhaps it was one of these instances in particular that encouraged him to conceiving this disconcerting figure, or perhaps it was a combination of the three. At the beginning of Goya s career, in 1777, he was commissioned to create a series of tapestry cartoons from the Royal Tapestry Factory, designing some 42 patterns over five years. Some of his more popular paintings were originally tapestry cartoons such as The Parasol. His use of the popular Rococo style, brought him to the attention of the aristocracy of Spain. The Subconscious Analysis That Shapes Our Lives Running Head: INTUITION Intuition: The Subconscious Analysis That Shapes Our Lives Shannon Moran Bridges High School INTUITION Abstract Intuition has rarely been given the credit it deserves, even when numerous experiments over the past decades has shown it to be a complex and detailed subconscious process, rather than the pseudo science many still believe it to be. Despite the success of intuition as a decision maker, the ideology that we should trust logic first and hunches second often wins out. Then we shift our focus on compressed caching which is the technique that tries to decrease paging request from secondary storage. We know that there is a big performance gap in accessing the primary memory (RAM) and secondary storage (Disk). The Compressed caching technique intercepts the pages to be swapped out, compresses them and stores them in pool allocated in RAM. Hence it tries to fill the performance gap by adding new level to virtual memory hierarchy. This paper analyze the performance of virtual memory compression. Further to avoid various categories of cache misses we discuss different types of cache technique to achieve higher performance. Examples of poets who used biblical language were Anne Bradstreet and Roger Williams who would merge the language of the Bible, the Old World, and the New World (Johnston, 126). Edward Taylor followed suit with this idea and often The voice of Edward Taylor...is a sensuous voice (Johnston, 126) . This is well demonstrated in his poem I am the Living Bread. Taylor described God and the heavens as luxurious in the lines , In this sad state, Gods Tender Bowells run Out streams of Grace: and he to end all strife The purest Wheate in Heaven (Taylor, 19 21). In these lines Taylor uses vivid imagery to describe the biblical figure of God. The words purest , tender , and Grace have highly extravagant connotations that create a mood of luxury. This characterizes God as a magnificent and divine being. Taylor is focusing on the theme of god and is describing him in a sensuous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers were not included in the study because the emphasis of the research is placed on the younger more diverse work force. Several research questions will be answered to achieve the stated purpose of this research. By applying statistical procedure of multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) to the Work Values Inventory (Super 1970) a measurement can be made of the null hypothesis showing the mean vector of 15 work values. Univariate tests of each variable were used to address the other research questions: 1. Creativity 2. Management 3. Achievement 4. Surroundings 5. Supervisory relations 6. Way of life 7. Security 8. Associates 9. Esthetics 10. Prestige 11. Independence 12. Variety 13. Economic return 14. Altruism; and 15. Intellectual stimulation (Super, 1970). According to Murphy, Conoley, Impara (1994) the Work Values Inventory is designed to measure the values which are extrinsic to as well as those which are intrinsic in work (p. 998). • 44. How Millercoors Creates Up Porter s Five Forces The fourth force that makes up Porter s Five Forces is the bargaining power of buyers. For MillerCoors specifically, the main buyers are distributors. The distributor controls the price by setting it on profit margins. In addition, distributors are consolidating and increasing in power. For example, in 1970 there were 5,000 distributors; today there are only 2,500 distributors. The distributors are also eliminating new competition. Two examples of this are how MillerCoors puts pressure on itself to carry its own brand and how there are more and more regulations on beer. Because of these reasons, there is more power to current distributors than there was in the past. The fifth and final force is the threat of new entry. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of the weaknesses that I could think of are that the company has one very large competitor that represents 50 percent of the market share instead of several semi large competitors, so gaining the majority of the market share is a difficult task. The second weakness is that the beer brewing industry has slow industry growth, while the wine industry is growing much more rapidly. In terms of opportunities and threats, MillerCoors has several opportunities that it could capitalize on. The opportunities that stand out to me are the foreign market explosive growth, financial markets, innovation, and increasing the awareness of sustainability issues among consumers and employees. If MillerCoors took advantage of these opportunities, it would find great success in several different realms of the competitive market. As far as threats go, there are three main ones that face MillerCoors. The first one is the competition that the company faces, the second one is the overall falling beer consumption that is happening worldwide, and the third one is the growing popularity of microbreweries and craft beer. These threats can also be seen as opportunities, though, such as homing in on the creation of more microbreweries in its market to keep up with the growing popularity and developing ... Gender Theory And Standpoint Theory Gender Theory and Standpoint Theory Kean University Spring 2015 Anastasia Mendola Society should be socially acceptable to all members of it no matter where they works, how much money they have, or don t have, the color of their skin, there sexual orientation, where the geographically live, etc. when it comes to topic of this nature, most people are very hesitant and don t want to talk about it. Is it because they know that there are problems that need to be fixed, or because they know that no matter how much you talk about the topics it s a lot harder to change the way society is than to just accept it and let it be. The paper discussed the two theories of standpoint theory and the gender theory. They both are present in everyday society but it just isn t that clear at all times. When most people think about the job that they have now or that they will have in the future, they don t think about that where they stand in society will be based off of what one solely knows. That is referring to the standpoint theory. The one main person that helped develop standpoint theory was Dorothy E. Smith. She was born in Great Britain in 1926. She worked as a secretary at a publishing company before she decided to try to get a better job by getting a college degree. She began college at the London School of Economics in 1951, and she received her bachelor s degree in sociology from the London School of Economics in 1955 (Feminist). • 47. What Are Wes Anderson s Auteur Theory Auteur Theory Wes Anderson Case Study Wes Anderson, an American director widely known for his idiosyncratic films, is the epitome of an auteur. However, what does being an auteur entail, and why are directors like Anderson (and e.g. Woody Allen, Akira Kurosawa or Alfred Hitchcock) separate from metteur en scenes or those simply regarded as filmmakers? To even begin justifying Anderson s auteur status, prior knowledge of the history of auteur theory and its intended function is essential. Authorship was introduced by filmmaker Francois Truffaut, a catalyst of the French New Wave (1958 1962), to advocate that ...a great director speaks through his films no less than a master novelist speaks through his books... In Notes on the Auteur Theory (1962), film critic Andrew Sarris formalised auteurs theory by explaining the auteur, the main creative force behind a film, must consistently demonstrate three premises: technical competence, personal style and interior meaning (Sarris, 1962). Wes Anderson accomplishes all of these criterions of value. Each of his films, which are inspired by personal experiences, are concerned with triggering nostalgia through ...common themes of childhood, adolescence, maturity, desire, friendship, male bonding... , the trappings of wealth/luxury and familial dysfunction (Dilley, 2017, pp16). As such, by analysing key scenes from throughout Anderson s oeuvre of work, one can see how Anderson s auteur status is justified.
