This document discusses nutrition guidelines for pre-school children. It recommends exclusive breastfeeding for children from 0-6 months, continuing breastfeeding plus introducing other foods from 6-24 months. From 2-5 years, children should eat a normal regular diet high in nutrients. The diet must provide enough protein, calcium, iron, vitamins A and D. Supplements of vitamins A, C and D may be needed for children at risk of deficiencies. Examples of nutritional deficiencies that can occur in pre-schoolers are also provided, such as vitamin A deficiency, as well as recommendations for a healthy weekly meal plan and food posters to encourage proper nutrition.

6. Energy requirements
• The diet must also be high in vitamins and minerals. In particular, a
good supply of protein, calcium, iron and vitamins A and D is
required. Supplements of vitamins A, C and D in the form of liquid
drops are recommended for children under 5 years of age if they are
considered to be at risk of deficiency - eg, poor eaters or those who
do not have much exposure to sunlight.
