Application Discovery & Packaging Engineer
Croydon Council - April 2016 to Present
Responsibilities:
• I rejoined this assignment when UAT started to help with remediation and make the final push to an ongoing
Windows 10 transformation project with Croydon Council which is to deliver over 700 virtualized/packaged
applications to over 3000 users into two key platforms, a Windows 10 platform for standard laptops/desktops
and a Windows Server 2012, Citrix XenApp & XenDesktop7.5 platform using App-V 5.0SP3 & 5.1, Flexera
Admin Studio/Install Shield, SCCM 2012 & APPV Management Server 2012
• I carried out thorough discovery for OTS and council bespoke applications which included consulting with end
users to gather application details, by reviewing App DNA results and using all exhaustive measures including,
but not limited to Microsoft & internet blogs to resolve issues conclusively, worked with various business units
to investigate application installation procedures, pre-requisites and dependencies.
• Based on the outcome of the discovery the applications were either Sequenced , MSI repackaged or
earmarked for Auto Deployment (response file or command line installs)
• I then used the gathered information to create a standard discovery document which outlined application
details, name, version, vendor, dependencies, platform compatibility, source file location, license requirements,
installation procedures, client contacts, etc.
• Packaged and sequenced applications while adhering to strict company standards
• Created interdependencies between virtual applications and carried out my standalone smoke by creating
connection groups and publishing my new apps in APP-V Commander, or in APPV Management Server for
full UAT testing.
• Created Step by step Application sequencing instructions in the form of user guides for each application to
help with knowledge transfer to the permanent members of staff that will be responsible for ongoing support.

DWP Department of Works and Pensions - September 2009 to December 2009
7 Migration & Test Engineer
Employer: DWP Department of Works and Pensions (Northgate)
Responsibilities:
• This role involved an end2end migration of an arm of DWP from PADA to the NEST Windows 7 environment
which had a mixture of desktops, laptops, Macs, and citrix thin clients. (Pre Migration actions, rollout/
installation, testing and floor walking/support).
• Pre-migration actions: This involved helping the users to configure and enable the DWP email auto responder
and also run the PADA (Personal Accounts Delivery Authority) migration script, this exported the user's outlook
mailbox, calendar, contacts, and internet explorer favorites.
• Rollout/Installation: The desktops and laptops were imaged with NEST' (National Employment Savings Trust)
standard ghost image, all the user specific applications installed, and the hard disk encrypted with PGP
software
• Testing: The machines were deployed to the user's desk and comprehensively tested, for connectivity (citrix
Aladdin safeword token), PGP encryption authentication, and verification of user specific software, if test is
successful then the machine is signed off, else extra applications were installed or connectivity issues resolved
as the case may be.
• Floor walking/support: Configured the user's outlook 2010 clients (open their migrated mailbox, PST files,
calendars etc) and helped resolve any other issues.
• Carried out waste management duties as and at when required.
Field Test & Implementation Analyst
NHS Blood & Transplant - April 2009 to September 2009
NHSBT)
Responsibilities:
• This role involved an end2end implementation (Site Survey, Rollout/Installation, and Testing) of NHSBT's
EOS (Electronic Offering System) clinical application which is being rolled out to DTC's (Donor Transplant
Coordinators) embedded in all major hospitals across all PCT's in the UK. Were I had to manage my
own schedule, make all contacts, book my own appointments, sign off completed sites, update the central
spreadsheet, and compile weekly progress reports for the team leads and regional managers.
• Pre-Installation Surveys: This involved booking appointments with the hospital IT Managers and the DTC's
to give them an initial background of what the project is all about and how I plan to implement it. Also during
this meeting I'll make sure that the DTC has certain mandatory items in place, like an honorary contract with
the Trust, a Trust login ID, office/desk space, and a Trust desktop.
• If any of the mandatory items are not in place I would then liaise with management (IT, HR, or Facilities) to
get it rectified so the implementation can move on and eventually be signed off.
• Once all the mandatory items are in place and IT have given the go ahead I configure the DTC's desktop
to access NHSBT's EOS clinical application.
• Once the software is installed and the DTC's desktop configured to access EOS via CAG (Citrix Access
Gateway) I carried out connectivity and UAT testing in the live environment by repeating some core business
functions of the DTC with dummy test data. ( cross matching of organs, checking organ availability on national
database, checking demographic data of organ donors etc)
• I also carried out tests and computed the results on O2 and T mobile 3G signal strengths in various locations
in the hospital to provide for redundancy in the event that the hospital network goes down • I also carried out
walkthrough exercises with the DTC's to give them a feel of how the connection works and to refresh their
memory on the EOS training which they had already done.
Test & Verification (DTV) Engineer
TPP SystmOne, Deploy - January 2009 to March 2009
Employer: Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT (NHS)

System One (EPR) on all the computers in the podiatry and physiotherapy departments across the whole PCT,
testing them prior to going live, performing floor walking duties, user training and walkthrough exercises after
go Live. (ITIL Environment).
• Prior to starting the project I went on a one day System One champion user training course were I was given
a very comprehensive overview of TPP System One to enable us carry out effective UAT testing during & after
deployment, and floor walking after go live, which included (User Setup, Community Reference Unit Setup,
Child Health Reference Unit Setup, Community & Child Health Report Setup, Child Health Template Setup,
Community Report Setup, Community Template Setup, Community Log on and Search for Patient, Register
New Patient & Record Referral (Community), Record Individual Contact (Community), Create appointments,
Send out appointment confirmation letters to patients from the letter template database using System One's
mail merge capabilities, Create waiting lists, etc)
• I Carried out pre deployment duties including making sure that the computers were up to the minimum spec
required for TPP System One, making sure that the pc's had the correct internet proxy settings, the correct
version of Java installed, the correct NHS Root Authority Certificates, and the correct Gem plus authentication
software installed.
• Where the pc's failed to meet the minimum spec they were earmarked for upgrade, where the root certificates
were missing they were re imported, where the java & Gem plus software were absent they were installed,
and the internet proxy settings were configured if they were found to be missing.
• When the checks all tallied then the TPP System One software was down loaded from the web and installed
on to the individual pc's and configured accordingly (Access for APPS folder on the root of C: was modified)
• Once the software was installed I carried out a connectivity test by inserting my Gem plus Smart Card into
either the external Omni key or inbuilt keyboard smart card reader and ran the TPP System One dummy &
live shortcuts on the desktop.
• Once the connectivity tests were successful I carried out UAT testing in the live environment by repeating
some user's core business functions with dummy data.
• Documented all test results and defects in an excel spreadsheet & carried out re testing and regression
testing after defects have been rectified.
• Kept an up to date asset register of all PC's across the PCT that had System One installed
• I carried out Floor walking duties, user training and walkthrough exercises after go Live
Field Service Engineer (Hardware & Software)
Eastern and Coastal Kent PCT - August 2008 to January 2009
NHS)
Responsibilities:
• This role involved the rollout & installation of about 2500 desktops, laptops ( With MacAfee Safe Boot/
Endpoint encryption software), printers, and scanners in 124 Eastern & Coastal Kent NHS sites (Hospitals,
Health Centres and GP Surgeries) across a 40 Mile Radius ( ITIL Environment)
• I went to the base office in Dover each morning and picked up my schedule for the day, based on the schedule
I built the required number of PC's / Laptops using the Omni Clone machine, joined them to the active directory
domain, and then loaded all the kit into my car (printers, monitors etc) and planned my route to the different
client sites for the day
• On getting to the client site I made contact with the users and installed and configured their PC's / laptops
or Printers as the case may be, making sure that all their data from the old equipment was copied across
to their new machine and the Wi-Fi USB Dongle/3G cards, and VPN for remote access were reinstalled and
configured on the new laptop
• I Setup their outlook 2003 email client on the new machine and configured their NHS dot NET web mail
account to open within outlook (IMAP & SMTP server configuration) then opened any previously open PST
files.
• Configured the Novell clients script run, preferred servers, trees, re-installed any printers & re-mapped their
network drives, reinstalled and configured user specific software ( Choose & Book, PAS, PACS, Clinicom,
ComPlus, iSoft Patient Centre, EMIS, ComCare and NN4B )
• Occasionally the installs to be carried out were brand new installs which required me to carry out comms
room patching to liven up the floor/wall ports
• After carrying out each installation (printer, desktop, scanner or laptop) to the users satisfaction I loaded the
old equipment back into my car and obtained a signoff sheet which was given to the scheduler the following
morning in the office for her to close the job, and the old equipment kept in storage for de-commissioning
• On this project IMAC duties were also carried out when a whole department needed to be moved to new
offices and in those instances we went to the users a day in advance and helped them move all their data to their
H drive and subsequently went to the new office the next morning for floor walking duties which encompassed
bringing down their data on to the new machine, setting up their email accounts, installing their preferred
printers and generally helping them settle into their new environment with as little disruption to the business
as possible.
