This document outlines a web quest assignment where students will be split into groups to research and present on one of the main types of chemical bonds: covalent, polar covalent, ionic, or metallic. Groups will be assigned a bond randomly and will use provided websites to research the type of bond, examples of it, its characteristics, and an everyday example. Students will then create a presentation in PowerPoint or Prezi to present their findings to the class. Their presentation will be evaluated on content, examples, cooperation within their group, and overall presentation quality. The goal of the assignment is for students to learn about the different chemical bond types.

Chemical Bond Web Quest
Introduction:
In this Web Quest, you will be learning about all the different types of chemical bonds. Then,
you will be put in a group of 2 and you will present a certain type of bond to the entire class.
Chemical bonds are all around us. They are in the air we breathe (O2), the water we drink (H2O),
and food we eat (NaCl).
There are 4 main types of chemical bonds that you will be learning about:
1. Covalent
2. Polar Covalent
3. Ionic
4. Metallic
Task:
1. Is to randomly pick a number from 1 to 4: 1-metal, 2-transition metal, 3-metalloid, 4-
nonmetal. Then I will randomly split you into groups and according to your numbers you
will research that bond. For example, if one student had 1 and the other student had 4,
then they would research the ionic bond.
2. Using the websites provided, create a presentation about your type of bond.
Presentations should have:
 Type of bond
 Examples of bond
 Characteristics of bond
 An everyday example of bond (something you use)
Process:
After you have been broken up into groups, find out what type of bond you and your partner has
created. By using the links below, you can learn more about that specific type of bond. You will
then create a presentation using PowerPoint or Prezi. You must include all of the
information that was included in the task tab into your presentation.
