1) Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, Japan and Jalan TAR in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia developed differently due to differences in climate, culture, history and technology.
2) Both areas have sidewalk gardens and street crossings that serve as contact points where passive interactions between pedestrians occur.
3) Roppongi Hills has more amenities like plazas and shrines that encourage optional activities and social interactions, increasing contact intensity compared to Jalan TAR.
The document summarizes three reaction papers by Lee Kai Yung responding to readings on architecture. The first discusses Robert Venturi's view that symbolic architecture and large signage are valid responses to the context of Las Vegas' car-oriented landscape. The second outlines Juhani Pallasmaa's perspective that modern architecture fails to appeal to human emotions and experiences. The third summarizes Kenneth Frampton's perspective that architecture should incorporate local culture, geography, and human senses to create a deeper connection between people and place.
The document provides background information on Jalan Raja Chulan in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It discusses the historical background of the street, formerly known as Weld Road, and details the social and architectural context of buildings located along it. It then provides a dilapidation survey of defects in abandoned colonial-era houses on the street. Finally, it proposes adapting the houses into a visitor center, outlining programs, spatial planning, and material choices for the adaptive reuse.
Jalan Raja Chulan in Kuala Lumpur has historical significance as it was renamed after an important Malay figure and links busy areas of the city. An abandoned building along the road consisting of 8 shophouses from the 1930s originally housed the Eurasian community. A proposal recommends adapting the building into a visitor center to showcase the culture and history of the area through exhibits, performances, and galleries. This would capitalize on the growing number of visitors in the developing commercial district and create a new landmark.
Petaling Street in Kuala Lumpur, also known as Chinatown, is facing threats to its cultural heritage from urbanization. As the area modernizes and develops economically, it is losing many aspects of its traditional Chinese culture and the architectural integrity of its historic buildings. Foreign workers now outnumber Chinese residents and traditional trades are being replaced. The area's designation as a heritage zone has not stopped deterioration of building facades and loss of cultural practices. There is debate around the construction of MRT stations, as some see it as the beginning of the end for Chinatown. Solutions are needed to manage development while preserving cultural heritage for future generations.
This document provides details on a case study conducted on the acoustic design of the theatre at the Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The study involved collecting acoustic data through site visits and measurements, analyzing how sound behaves in the space, and evaluating solutions to improve the room acoustics. Key findings include the identification of noise sources near the site, the contribution of acoustic doors and air conditioning placement to reducing external sound, and analysis of sound absorption, reflection, diffusion and reverberation times in the theatre. The document presents technical drawings, photographs to support the research methodology and findings on the acoustic characteristics and performance of the theatre space.
1. The document analyzes 4 beams and calculates their loads, shear forces, and bending moments. Beam 1 is subjected to UDL from two slabs. Beams 2-4 are subjected to UDL from slabs and point loads from walls. Calculations are shown for total dead load, live load, and ultimate load on each beam.
2. Load diagrams and bending moment diagrams are generated for each beam. Reactions, shear forces, and bending moments are calculated at points along each beam.
3. The analysis follows design code requirements to consider different load combinations on the structural elements.
The group was tasked with analyzing the structural components of a double-storey bungalow based on provided architectural plans. They first identified the slab systems as either one-way or two-way. Structural plans were then produced showing the beams and columns. Each group member analyzed a minimum of 6 beams and 3 columns on both floors by calculating loads from self-weight, slab, and other sources. The analysis provided experience in load distribution calculations and understanding basic structural design of buildings.
The document provides an overview of various building service systems used in public buildings, including mechanical ventilation, air conditioning, fire protection, and mechanical transportation systems. It discusses the components, principles, and applications of these different systems. The document also analyzes these systems as applied to a proposed three-story elderly center located in Taman Kanangapuram, Malaysia.
This document provides information about a case study project analyzing the S11 House in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. A group of students were assigned to investigate how local climatic responsive materials used in the S11 House address the local climate patterns in order to provide user comfort and achieve sustainability. The climate in Petaling Jaya is characterized as hot and humid throughout the year due to long hours of sunlight and high average rainfall. Materials used in the S11 House, such as timber, steel, concrete, brick and marble, have properties that allow them to respond to the hot and humid conditions by shedding heat and resisting the effects of humidity.

Executive Summary
This is the report that record everything that happened in our charity drive week and
the summary of what we have learnt during that period of time. In this report, we will be
talking about the objective of our charity drive, which is to earn money and donate it to a
charity organization. The organization we choose are a Chinese Buddhist organization which
currently helping the flood victims in Kuala Krai, Kelantan. Unfortunately we didn’t reach
our target sales amount but we still manage to get at least half of the amount.
We are targeting students and teacher around the campus because we are selling
foods. We also have very strong competitors because there are few group also selling food.
For the product and the packaging, we use a very eco-friendly way to do it and our packaging
are all recyclable. The pricing of our products is fair and affordable for everyone especially
student. To promote our charity drive, we use several way to do that, through Facebook,
poster and face-to-face conversation to engage with customer. Also we having a very tough
time finding our sponsor and we get rejected many times, but still manage to find a
sponsorship who willing to sponsor products for us to run the charity drive.
We distribute the task to very members of our group so that we can get things done
easily and in an efficient way. At the end of the charity drive, we end up earning a total of
RM2025.00, after cutting off our expenses, we still manage to get RM1675.00 and donate it
to the charity organization. To be said that this is not an easy task to do but we surpass our
limit and get this done although the result is not ideal. Along the approach to the target, we do
have good and bad times when running our business and it was fulfilling seeing them
through.

Objectives
We had chosen Fo Guang Shan Malaysia as the charity organization that we will donate the
money to. The reason we will donate the money to them is because they are recently helping
the flood victims of Kuala Krai, Kelantan and also we hope that we can help those persons in
needs in the name of a loyal Buddhist. Water drop Teahouse Sdn.Bhd, the business who
sponsored the food is actually an F&B business under the name of Fo Guang Shan Malaysia.
So, when we said that we will donate the money to Fo Guang Shan Malaysia, they agreed
sincerely that they will sponsored us the food for the event, which are the fried rice, fried rice
noodles and Nasi Lemak.
During the event, we targeted RM1000 from the donation and RM1000 from the sales of
selling fried rice, fried rice noodles, Nasi Lemak and herbal eggs from the charity drive event.

The herbal eggs are homemade herbal eggs so the price will be higher and normally the

healthy Nasi Lemak which uses pandan leaf instead of coconut milk and also comes with
vegetarian curry mutton.
When we were facing difficulty to sell them, we will lower the quantity to be ordered for the
next day and also lowered the price. If we were selling them faster than anticipated, we would
make some offer such as 3 herbal eggs for RM5 and not RM6, or buying 1 Nasi Lemak with 1
herbal egg will be RM7.

Promotion
To promote our product, we had come out with a marketing message, which is “Help
the flood victims of Kuala Krai”. We choose this message is because the charity organization
is currently helping the victims of the flood in many ways, by providing food, daily supplies,
shelter and also man power.
The main tools we used to promote our products is through Hand-produce poster,
Facebook and face-to-face conversation. We choose this few method to promote is because
we can have our stall and product details on the poster, example the product name and prices.
Besides, Facebook is a very popular social networking sites, that why we decided to use it to
promote our products. Face-to-face conversation is the best way to catch customer attention
by giving details to customer in an easy and direct way and we also be able to pursuit the
customer to buy our products.

Green Measures
Our product are mainly food, vegetarian food, the food in a very environmental
friendly way. Eco-friendly way to cook is not only benefit to the environment, but also to
human body, the food we use was all organic vegetable, it can keep chemical out of body as
well as the air, soil and rivers. Besides the way we package our products also in an eco-
friendly way. For the rice and noodle, we use disposable plastic food container instead of
Styrofoam box, this is because plastic box can be recycle or reuse but Styrofoam box can’t do
so and it take a long time to decompose and also will release poison gas. As for the herbal
egg, we use plastic bag to pack and distribute it to customer.
The way we distribute our products mostly is done by foot throughout the campus, so
the carbon footprint is low. The product waste like I said just now, both of it can be recycle
and for the disposable plastic food container can be reuse. The way we reduce our
consumption of electricity is we use warmer to keep our product insulation pot which does
not require any electricity. When running the event, we use recycle paper to note down our
sales, as for the poster that contain the products’ name and price, we reuse and reuse for the
whole week of charity drive so that we can save paper.

Evaluation of Results
During the charity drive, what we did right was by deducting the quantity of nasi lemak
when we realized that we could not finish selling it before it got smelly in the first day. And
for the nasi lemak that we did not managed to sell out, we gave it to the workers in Taylor’s
University Lakeside Campus.
And what we did wrong were we ordered too many food and wasted for the first day
because they gone smelly due to not many people buying it, and we also set the cost too high
for nasi lemak, some of the customer were shocked when they heard the price RM6 for a
pack of nasi lemak.
If we can repeat the event one more time, we would change to other type of food to sell
and not selling heavy food, because normally customer will just buy a snack and not fried
rice or nasi lemak. And the only snack we sold was herbal eggs.
