Overall, these learning experiences will help the student effectively work as an early childhood educator and implement quality programs and activities for young children.

Jennifer Calhoun Mohl is a Partner and senior consultant in Mercer’s Philadelphia health and benefits practice. In addition, Jennifer serves as a relationship manager on client assignments that involve multiple Mercer offices and multiple lines of business.
In addition, Jennifer has assisted with the implementation and operations of benefit programs, including communications, outsourcing and call center support. Recently, she has served as the lead health and benefit strategist on client assignments involving multiple lines of business – with a particular focus on mergers and acquisitions.
Jennifer serves as one of Mercer’s National Health and Benefits spokeswomen. She has been quoted in various periodicals including, Managed Care Report, O&P Business News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Business Journal, Money Magazine and has been featured on Money Matters Today on CN8.
Prior to joining Mercer in 1999, Jennifer began her consulting career with Towers Perrin in 1994. She was also a legislative intern in Washington for the New York State legislature with a particular focus on employment issues including the 1993 National Healthcare Initiative spearheaded by (at time first-lady), Hillary Clinton. Jennifer received a BS in Industrial and Labor Relations at the New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University.

Character education

- 2. Developing morals, civics, ethical reasoning, conflict resolution, manners, interpersonal relations, respect Importance: Teaches respect, responsibility, safety, leadership, ethical values, and supports positive character development Parents aren’t always necessarily teaching positive character development, so it is the role of teachers and schools to promote and model good behavior
- 4. Use a WebQuest in order to teach students the history of voting and how to vote. Use it to teach the importance of doing their duty as citizens and voting.
- 5. Making a PSA video about bullying is a great idea to support character education. You could have students participate in a contest to see who can make the best PSA, and the winner receives a prize. This is a method that could definitely grab students’ attention very well.
- 6. To build character education, you could have students make their own podcasts about respect. Have them give details of what they believe the true meaning of respect is, and how they can use it with their peers. This is a great way to have students teach each other.
- 7. Provide a Make QRs for students that include videos of how to use proper manners. Videos may include how to act while at a restaurant, or in public, or when to say “thank you”, “you’re welcome”, “please”, and other phrases. They could also include how not to act around other students, as well as how to treat your parents and teachers with respect. This method could show them all the different ways to have proper manners.
- 8. Another method that can be used is a poster. This can give the students a visualization of what needs to be done. We chose to do a poster on how to wash your hands. This allows the students to see the steps in which they need to follow. This poster could be placed right above the sink, that way the students can follow the steps while washing their hands.
- 10. It is the duty of both parents and educators to instruct the coming generation of adults to be upstanding and respectful citizens in our communities. Character education is as important as academics in schools. Children spend so much of their lives in the classroom, making it a crucial environment for enforcing core values (such as respect, responsibility, etc.)
