 MICE is used to refer to a particular type of tourism
in which large groups, usually planned well in
advance, are brought together for some particular
    purpose.
 MICE tourism usually includes a well-planned
agenda centered around a particular theme or
topic, such as profession trade organization, a
special interest group or an educational topic.
Such tourism is often a specialized area with its own
    exhibition

  information

other venue dedicated to such gatherings.
 Meeting covers the following:

2. Seminar (typically several presentations, small audience,
   one day),
3. Conference (mid-size, one or more days),
4. Congress (large, several days),

   by passers-by),
6. Workshop (smaller, with active participants), training
course, team-building session and kick-off event.

Usually, experts in a given field take
the opposite sides of an issue in a
  panel discussion.
 Seminar – a lecture and a dialogue that

particular field. A seminar is guided by an
expert discussion leader, usually 30 or fewer

contributed by several persons on a given
   subject or  topic.

 information among a usually small
 number of participants.
 Incentive tourism is usually undertaken

Unlike the other types of MICE tourism,
    incentive tourism is usually conducted
    purely for entertainment, rather than
    professional or educational purposes.
 is a gathering of individuals who meet at an
arranged place and time in order to discuss or
engage in some common interest. The most
    common conventions are based
    upon industry, profession.
 A trade fair (trade show, trade

Editor's Notes

  1. Recently, there has been an industry trend towards using the term  meetings industry  to avoid confusion from the acronym. Other industry educators are recommending the use of "Events Industry" to be an umbrella term for the vast scope of the meeting and events profession. Most components of MICE are well understood, perhaps with the exception of incentives. Incentive tourism is usually undertaken as a type of employee reward by a company or institution for targets met or exceeded, or a job well done. Unlike the other types of MICE tourism, incentive tourism is usually conducted purely for entertainment, rather than professional or educational purposes. [3]
  2. Meetings and conventions bring people together for a common purpose, and meeting and convention planners work to ensure that this purpose is achieved seamlessly. Meeting planners coordinate every detail of meetings and conventions, from the speakers and meeting location to arranging for printed materials and audio-visual equipment. Meeting and convention planners work for nonprofit organizations, professional and similar associations, hotels, corporations, and government. Some organizations have internal meeting planning staffs, and others hire independent meeting and convention planning firms to organize their events. The the event planner creates programs that address the purpose, message or impression that their organization or client is trying to communicate. Event planners work long and non-traditional hours to plan and execute all details related to a variety of meeting formats including seminars, conferences, trade shows, executive retreats, incentive programs, golf events, conventions, and other programs.
