English Channel, linking France with the United
Unido. It is an important international transport
infrastructure.
It is the third longest tunnel in the world, only
surpassed by the Seikan tunnel and the Gotthard
tunnel, and the one with the longest submarine
section in the world
The Eurostar high-speed train takes 2 hours nd 20 minutes to travel fro
London to Paris, and 1 hour and 57 minutes from London to Brussels.

through the Canal, which is subject to adverse weather conditions or other
factors. Motorists enter the transhipping trains and can stay in their
vehicles or stroll as they cross the tunnel. The truck drivers put the truck
into the wagons, and a minibus transports them to the club car, where
they have seats and a catering service.
CHARACTERISTICS
Technical characteristics The Eurotunnel rail service has two
variants: the Eurostar, for passengers, and the Shuttle,
which transports trucks, cars and motorbikes. It has a
length of 50.5 km, 39 of them submarines, which makes it
the second longest submarine tunnel in the world, with an
average depth of 40 meters
COSTRUCTION
The tunneling machines used to excavate the tunnel were
built by French and British. With a cylindrical shape, the
tunneling machine carries several blades mounted in its
front part. The teeth are made of extremely hard metal and
when turning they penetrate the ground
