Open The Books On Innovation
This thesis examines whether open innovation is truly new and which factors are important for open innovation. Through qualitative research of large Dutch organizations using geo-information technology, the author concludes that open innovation is a new concept. The most important factors are internal to organizations, as there is little focus on external factors like users, communities, or networks. While organizations intend to adopt open innovation, few have implemented it in realized innovations. Therefore, organizations have expressed an intention for open innovation but have not fully opened the books on innovation in practice.
