• to increase the audience’s knowledge about a topic 
• to help them learn information and clarify complex issues 
• to demonstrate something useful 
• to show how things are related in space 
• to arose interest in topics that might at first seem uninteresting

details/specific facts 
• They remember simple words and concrete ideas better than

• Tell your audience early in your presentation how a topic is related to
