Moving Forward on Learning Analytics - A/Professor Deborah West, Charles Darw...Blackboard APAC
Learning analytics is a 'hot topic' in education with many institutions seeking to make better use of the data available via various systems. One of the key challenges in this process is to understand the business questions that people working in various roles in institutions would like to be able to answer. However, it is also important that these questions are appropriately structured and specific in order to gather the relevant data. This session builds on the workshop run at last year's Blackboard Learning and Teaching conference where participants explored business questions and use cases for learning analytics from a range of perspectives.
Delivered at Innovate and Educate: Teaching and Learning Conference by Blackboard. 24 -27 August 2015 in Adelaide, Australia.

Pre-requisites
There are no recommended pre-requisite units for this unit.
ASSESSMENT INFORMATION for students
Throughout your training, Kingston Institute of Australia is committed to your learning by providing a training and assessment framework that ensures the knowledge gained through training is translated into practical on the job improvements.
You are going to be assessed for:
· Your skills and knowledge using written and observation activities that apply to the workplace or a simulated environment.
· Your ability to apply your learning.
· Your ability to recognize common principles and actively use these on the job.
All of your assessment and training is provided as a positive learning tool. Your assessor will guide your learning and provide feedback on your responses to the assessment materials until you have been deemed competent in this unit.
Assessment Process
The process we follow is known as competency-based assessment. To achieve competency in this unit, you need to consider the components of the training package and fulfill the assessment requirements. Some of the components are Elements, Performance Criteria, Performance Evidence, Knowledge Evidence and Assessment Conditions. For more details on components, please visit the following links and search for the unit using the unit code;
https://training.gov.au/Training/Details
In competency-based assessment, the evidence of your current skills and knowledge will be measured against national standards of best practice, not against the learning you have undertaken either recently or in the past. Some of the assessment will be concerned with how you apply your skills and knowledge in the workplace, and some in the training room as required by each unit.
The assessment tasks have been designed to enable you to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge and produce the critical evidence to successfully demonstrate competency at the required standard.
Your assessor will explain the assessment process and ensure that you are ready for assessment. Your assessment tasks will outline the evidence to be collected and how it will be collected, for example; a written activity, case study, or demonstration and observation.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Mutual Recognition If students have previously completed this unit of competency at another Registered Training Organisation, Central will recognise their previous statement of attainment and add that to their academic record.
Central is a ‘Vocational Education & Training ‘ (VET) organisation where the emphasis is to prepare students for the workforce.
Competency Based Training (CBT) is the way courses are delivered and assessed. It means you are able to do the job to the standard required by industry.
CBT teaches you and assesses you on the whole task. To give you an analogy – if the course was about baking a cake, you need to prove not just that you can memorise a recipe or have a good mixing technique but that you can put all the skills together to make a cake to the standard required by industry.
Marks are not given. You are simply assessed as to whether you are competent or not.
Summative Assessment is the final assessment that is the sum of unit or pre-determined milestone along the way (sometimes called assessment of learning)
Formative Assessment is undertaking at any time along the way and is an opportunity for students and lecturers to check students progress (sometimes called assessment for learning )
Cheating, plagiarism and collusion are deemed serious offences and will not be tolerated at Central Institute of Technology. Check your Essentials Handbook for a full definition of these terms and the consequences of academic misconduct.
To avoid undue stress and possible re-enrolment, please make sure you fully understand these terms and their significance to all your assessments.
Check with your lecturer or librarian if you are not sure.
Lecturers should refer to Academic Practice @ Central http://centralnetarchive/ems/online/P04A.pdf
Please ensure that you know exactly what is required of you in the assessment e.g. is it a report or an essay, length, presentation etc…
Please ensure you have an electronic copy of your assessment in case your original is misplaced.
Plagiarism is a very important issue, make sure that the work you submit is your own and that you correctly acknowledge the work that you find in books, journals and websites.
Contribute to improvements in assessment processes by completing student feedback surveys and focus groups when invited to do so
Assessment and result codes are;
CO - Competent
R- Re enrol
H- Hold
A reminder: You need to have paid all your fees to get your results!
Students will be offered the opportunity to complete a Learner Needs Checklist [F04A3 on policies procedures forms on the staff intranet] which provides the study area with an indication of the support required by individual students.
This allows the College to provide you with some assistance which will aid you with your studies and ensure your success.
The Desk aims to support students to achieve mental and physical health and wellbeing. Being a student can be a challenging time and many students do not access support services for a range of reasons including time pressures, not knowing where to go for help and feeling embarrassed. Providing resources online means that more people will be able to get help to improve their wellbeing and be able to study more effectively. thedesk offers free access to online modules, tools, quizzes and advice.

Details of the refund policy is on the back of the enrolment form
VET Fee Help Students – students who withdraw formally on or before the Census Date for their unit/s will not incur a VET Fee Help debt with the Commonwealth Government. Upfront part payments will be refunded, if a student withdraws before the Census Date. No refunds are paid if you withdraw after the Census Date. No incidental fees are refunded. Important: please check your enrolment record to confirm the actual Census Date for your unit/s. Your enrolment record can be accessed via the Student Portal on Central’s Website (www.central.wa.edu.au).
Feedback
Student compliments/complaints
If you have an issue with your studies please approach your lecturer first on an individual basis. If you are still not satisfied, then approach the Principal Lecturer or Learning Portfolio Manager of the area to see if it can be resolved. Should you still feel aggrieved, then we have a complaints officer and you can put your complaint in writing. The forms for complaints are available from the reception counter at student services. Please allow the portfolio the opportunity to deal with the issue before making a formal complaint.
Unit evaluation forms are used throughout the college to gather your feedback on your studies – please help us by completing them
Please remember staff also appreciate the occasional compliment.
