QTAC’s EAS (Educational Access
Scheme) aims to help applicants who have
experienced difficult circumstances that
have negatively impacted on their studies.

15. 5 EAS categories -
examples
Common issues students may have experienced include:
• Financial hardship – family receives Centrelink; parents unemployed or on
low income; limited money for books, uniforms, school supplies, excursions etc
• Home environment/responsibilities – family conflict, abuse, illness/death of
family member, additional responsibilities to assist your family
• English language – from a country where English is NOT medium of
instruction; family does not speak English at home; new to Australia and
experiencing language issues (e.g. refugee)
• Disability or personal illness – chronic illness or accident which have led to
extended time away from school; illness/disability for which provisions have not
been made at school
• Educational disruption – natural disasters; regional/remote school; change of
school in senior years; bullying; family breakdown; homelessness

to QTAC about how to complete your cover sheets and documents

The cover sheet/s have room to explain your
experiences or challenges in each category
Your personal statement should include:
• the circumstance/s you have experienced
• how this impacted your studies
• Any assistance you may have received while at
school to help you overcome these issues

Courses you really want, even if your chance of
gaining entry is not assured.
Less competitive courses that provide another
way to your chosen career or to a second
choice career. They can be used to upgrade to
your ‘ideal’ course.
Courses you are prepared to do if you miss out
on all others. They should be courses that in
the past have been easy to get into. They can
help you upgrade.
