Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

Center management information system
1. Center
Management M.C.A
Information Semester :
System
The project name is Center Management Information System
For St. Angelo’s Computer Education. This project involves all
Object oriented model diagram like class diagram, activity
diagram; use case diagram and many more…
4. SYNOPSIS
Existing System
In the current I.T Admission and Result system processes are carried out
manually.
The college does not have any software
Rather they did work with Excel worksheet that care of the organization.
To search a particular record they have to look each and every file manually.
To generate the merit list they have to manually sort out the student data and to
generate mark sheet they have to manually create result of each student.
They maintain each & every record for annual inspection.
Limitations of Existing System
They had Standalone System so it was very difficult to collect data from various
centers.
There was no proper information sharing because the information was not
available on a timely basis.
Various centers used to send their data in terms of excel sheet so it was time
consuming to insert all the data from the excel sheet into the database.
Changes cannot be made immediately if there are any because there is no
centralized system.
Each centre needed to keep a back up of data in terms of print outs or in a local
database of their own.
It was time consuming to maintain such backups.
No centralized and distributed system.
Printing of examination hall tickets and marsksheets was done at the Head Office
only, putting a lot pressure on the Head Office operations.
The Head Office was not able to track and monitor all the activities of every
centre.
They were not being able to keep the account of each and every centre effectively
and efficiently.
There was a lot paper work involved.
Any changes that are to be made to the software was supposed to be made at each
and every centre of St.Angelo’s which was a very tedious task.
There was no security of data since the data is residing at a particular centre
which can be manipulated by anyone.
5. The software was not a centralized system.
Proposed System:
To overcome the present manual system, an automated system that
would handle the task was required for current system. The system deals with
holding all the information regarding the student admission process and Result
generation process.
Advantages of proposed system:
It is a Web Application so in this way it makes it a distributed system where in
many Centers can access the same program at the same time .
It is a centralized system since all the application programs are stored on the
Web Server itself.
It can handle huge amount of data since all the data is being stored in a database
which makes data handling more simpler.
The application program can handle all kinds of data giving support to the
various stages that a student may go through.
Every centre is uniquely identified by a ‘Username’ and ‘Password’.
Every centre can be tracked easily because all the data is stored in a centralized
database.
Every centre can view its own data whenever it wants.
Easy accessibility of data since it is a web application.
There is an array of reports that a centre can generate.
Enquiry Reports
Admission Reports
Fee Receipt Reports
Penalty Receipt Reports
These reports can be customized as per needs and requirements of the centre
All the data from various Centres is available at the Head Office. Because the
Head Office wants all the details from all Centres. So there is no restriction on
Head Office to view the details of other Centres. This privilege is only for the
Head Office and no other centre of St.Angelo’s .
The Head Office can generate consolidated reports where in it can take the data
of different Centres together and add in the report.
The Head Office Reports are as follows:-
Centre Specific Enquiry Reports
Centre Specific Admission Reports
Centre Specific Fee Receipt Reports
Centre Specific Penalty Receipt Reports
Centre Specific Examination Reports
6. The Head Office can track the performance of each centre since it is able to view
the details of other Centres it can easily determine the throughput of each centre.
Head Office can track all activities of each centre i.e. Enquiries, Admissions,
Fee Receipts, Penalty Receipts and Examination and this way it can monitor the
growth of a particular centre
Each centre can keep track of each student i.e. the outstanding fees, the amount
paid by him, any penalties that he/she has paid, exam registration, etc.
The Head Office can keep track of all the fee and penalty payments that is made
at a particular centre by the students since it can view all the details of all the
Centres it can generate consolidated reports where in it will be known with the
total amount collected by all the Centres in a specific date range.
Each centre can keep track of the registration of examinations with this
information the Head Office will be known with how many registrations for
examinations have been made.
The student’s photograph can be uploaded in order to generate the Examination
Hall Ticket at each and every Centre.
Generation of Examination Hall ticket which is done on a Centre basis and again
the Head Office does not have to worry about the generation of Hall Tickets
Each centre can print Examination Hall Tickets for their own students so in this
way the Head Office does not need to send the Hall Ticket to the student
physically to the Centre and the student can get his hall ticket immediately when
he registers.
Generation of Mark sheets can be done on a Centre basis and again the Head
Office does not have to take the burden of generating mark sheets for the
students of different Centres.
Each Centre can print Mark sheets for their own students so the Head Office
does not have to take the burden of printing mark sheets of all students.
Reports can be converted into Excel sheet format which is useful in presentation
of data and will be helpful in increasing the interpretability of data.
Each Centre can edit/modify their password and in this way we can avoid
password stealing since every Centre is being given the facility to change their
password.
Each Centre can edit their own centre details so this facility will again reduce
the work load of updating any kind of change in the Centre’s details.
No Centre can see the details for another centre (Information Hiding) since
every centre is authenticated before signing into their account and after
successful authentication the web application will show the details of that
particular centre which has logged in.
Session Handling will enable us to maintain the amount of load on the web
server if a particular centre does not send a request in 5 minutes time.
Scope of Proposed System
The project all based on reminders where in a busy human mind is not
being able to recollect all things that he is supposed to do. Considering all
7. these aspects we developed a system in general which can be used by a lay
man for their own routine purposes.
The project has modules like:-
1. Birthday reminder
2. Personal reminder
3. Company Reminder
4. Appointments
5. Discussion Forum
Birthday Reminder:-
The organization that we have developed the system is an organization which
caters to many clients where in the work pressure is very intense making the
employees to forget the most important thing that is birthday’s of colleagues.
As a way of making an employee’s birthday more specific to everyone in the
organization the system which is developed would highlight a colleagues
birthday. Moreover, any person in the organization can send a birthday message and an
e-card too making more things personalized and this way that particular employee can
celebrate his birthday with his colleagues.
Personal reminder:-
Every person has a lot of commitments to be dealt with, in order to remember
so many commitments we developed a system that would keep everyone known with
their commitments and tasks that they have to perform. In this module we have
allowed the user to set in a kind a of reminder which would be displayed to him
accordingly. More over we have also facilitated the use with also editing/modifying
and deleting any kind of reminder that they have set in the near future.
Company Reminder:-
In this module of the project we have considered the hierarchy of the
organization as our base for developing this module. Here in this module we have
facilitated the user to send intimations about meetings that is supposed to take place
in the near future. This module considers the hierarchy of the organization to be the
center piece of development of this module. In order to facilitate a medium of sending
meeting intimations to employees within the organization we came up with this
module. The prime focus here is to consider that a higher level employee can send a
meeting intimation to a lower level employee working in the organization. So we have
moduled in such a manner where in ‘The Chairman’ of the organization can send a
meeting intimation to only department managers and a Manager of any department
can send a meeting intimation to his department members only .So in this way the
module respects the hierarchical structure as the de facto element for its
implementation. Moreover in this module an employee can view only those company
meeting intimations that are meant for him so in this way we maintaining information
hiding and there is information diversification too. Another aspect of this module is
that an employee can even accept or reject a meeting intimation and if he accepts his
appointment will be set in his appointment calendar for that particular day and
time .Moreover the person who has sent the meeting intimation can also view which
person is being able to come for the meeting and which person is not able to make it
for the meeting. So over all the person who sends the meeting intimation gets clear
8. count of the persons coming for the meeting. Moreover the creator of such an
intimation may even modify or delete any meeting reminders that he has sent making
it more customized and personalized too.
Appointments:-
This module is more individualistic where in the module aims at fixing
appointments on a particular day and time and the person can even edit or delete the
appointment as per his needs. Moreover it also checks whether there is an
appointment on that particular day and time or not .It allows a user to check his
appointments on daily basis, weekly basis and monthly basis. Where in he can
schedule all his meetings accordingly everyday or weekly or monthly making it more
crystal clear for him/her to set an appointment on that particular day. Moreover here
no other person can view each other’s appointments where in there is information
hiding happening. This module also facilitates to view his schedule for the day also
making him more conscious of how he has to manage time and work accordingly to
accomplish everything as per his desires.
Discussion Forum:-
Since its an organization ,it needed a place for its employees to be in touch through
various issues and give their own opinions. So this module is known as discussion
forum where in only the chairman or the Manager can open a discussion i.e. they are
the only one’s permitted to make/create a discussion topic and everyone in the
origination can put in their views about the topic.
It may be possible that the organization recruits a new employee that particular
employees account has to be created with a sign up page making it more convenient
for the user to get registered for the system where in everyone has their own username
and password as well as they can even change their password as per their requirement.
