Censorship In Art
Since the beginning of time art has been an important aspect to our lives. We learn from it, admire it, and some even relate to it in different ways.
Art comes in many different forms it could be sculptures, photography, paintings or music. Some forms of art could be inappropriate and offensive
to some people. Should all art be censored? A great deal of controversy has been provoked by this. Although you may not think that different forms
of art are beneficial to our every day lives, actually they are. If there was no art, we would not have any idea how people lived in the past. We still
do not know exactly how they lived, but the artifacts left behind gives us clues. Some of the art may show nuidty and be innapprotpiate. The artist
definitely had a meaning behind their piece of art, and had symbolism to it. From that we can get an idea to how life was back then. Due to pieces of
art like this, many people argue that art should be censored. This goes back to Plato's proposal to ban mimetic art for its moral and epistemological
evil ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). Artists in the East and West have had to denounce and deal with the censor of their art since
the twentieth century ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). Since then popular artists have been doing everything they can to protect
art's freedom and right to exist ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). For example Michelangelo's, "The Last Judgement" that was

The Role Of Waknuk In The Chrysalids
Waknuk is David's hometown in the story "The Chrysalids". The village is located in central Labrador. It is a small agricultural community which lies
in the west of Labrador. They have a maritime climate, being remotely tropical, without extreme heat. There tend to be a vast amount of forest cover
with many fields making up most of the landscape. The people of Newf and Labrador are the only humans who retained the pre–Tribulation phenotype.
The only other known civilizations are vague and coloured by religious dogma. The Theocracy run government follows the Bible and the Repentances
as a means of guidelines. Run off of the fear of God Himself, the people survive by keeping their race in the True Image. They do this by having

The mandatory capital punishment accompanying the charge has long been denounced as excessive and disproportionate to the crime. It is a matter of
controversy even within the Islamic circles. 3. The wording of the blasphemy law is vague and open–ended. So often, the wordings are misinterpreted
according to the wishes of the plaintiff. Often the accused do not have the necessary knowledge of Islam to interpret the wordings of the law. For
example it does not clearly state that what kind of remarks pass off as derogatory and offensive to the Islamic faith. In the southern Punjab, where
many Christians live, Christian missionaries a, churches and schools, have been accused under the blasphemy law of defiling Islam, on the context
that they are spreading the Christian faith. It is the lack of clarity in the clauses of the law, which is making people take full advantage of the situation.
4. The law does not require proof of the actual state of mind of the accused and disregards the element of intention. Since its enactment in 1986, it has
frequently been distorted to intimidate or punish religious minorities and to settle personal scores. Hundreds of innocent people have been imprisoned,
forced to flee the country or killed by Islamic extremists under the pretext of punishing blasphemers. In all the cases that we went

Identity In The Chrysalids
Set in the near future of a post–apocalyptic world, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, follows humanity decades after as it continues to rebuild from a
tribulation believe to have been sent by God to punish sinners of the past. The inhabitants of this dystopian society are left with little knowledge of
their past, with only a copy of the Bible and its Repentances left by the past inhabitants, to give them a sense of direction. Wyndham presents the
Waknuks (a small community living in this post tribulation world) struggles as a society to understand identity by practicing religious beliefs, physical
appearance and fears a false perception of identity.
The small community of Waknuk demonstrates a strong belief in their relationship with God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In fact, without knowing a deeper understanding of deformities, the Waknuk community instilled fear with the mutants, using those with deformities
as a way to scare troublesome children to behave (Wyndham 21) at such a young age the children of this society are pampered to fear the mutants and
example of this is on page –––when David states that all the teachings learned in class lead the community to believe that their reason here on this
earth was to simply rid of it's 'evil' and make it pure once again (Wyndham 41). Thus, giving their lives a sense of duty– a reason to be on this planet.
"... A lot of people saying that a thing is so, doesn't prove it is so... Nobody really knows what is the true image (Wyndham 64)." The perception of
what something really is seems to pop up around the book continuous times for example in page –––– of The Chrysalids "...[whether you were the
Norm or had deformities] they think that [ their own community] is the true pattern of the Old People" the quote continues on with David stating " the
bible does not say anything to contradict the [Old People] were anything like the [Waknuks] (Wyndham 63)." No longer do readers see a community
performing acts in the name of the Lord, however, performing these acts in a struggle to find their own self–identity; to find

Crime In 16th Century England
Sixteenth century England was a time of laws and religion. Both relied heavily on each other. As the churches grew and Queen Elizabeth came into
power, laws were often made to specifically protect the church. Crimes such as blasphemy and treason could be punishable by death or torture.
Treason is the crime of trying to betray a country, usually by trying to overthrow the current state of the government or other systems, such as the
power of the church. This is a crime that no one was exempt from. Many priests and even Queen Elizabeth had been sent to the Tower of London.
Elizabeth I was pardoned, others however could be tortured for months or be ordered to be executed. Blasphemy is the act of talking sacrilegiously
about the beliefs of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lower class citizens of England resorted to stealing for what they needed to survive, and if they were caught the punishment was rarely
enjoyable. Usually a person caught stealing would have a hand cut off. The Band of Thieves was a large group of men and women taking from
whoever they could, members that were caught were often tortured and publicly humiliated. Beggars were considered the rats of people. They dressed
in the most ragged clothes and begged a passerby for money. If caught he or she would be beaten and driven out of the city, usually ordered to never
return.
There were even laws against cutting down certain trees; the crime was punishable by death. Trees such as the Ash Tree, Dogwood, and others with a
religious background or significant use, the crime would be considered as a form of blasphemy in some cases.
The courts and trials were usually public spectacles. Judgment was typically in favor of the persecutor, meaning there were a lot of guilty citizens.
Anyone accused were taken to court and tried. Usually there was a judge, jury, and a number of citizens watching the events unroll. There were three
main kinds of court cases; Criminal, Religious, and the Star

Examples Of Irony In The Pardoner's Tale
There are many examples of irony in "The Pardoner's Tale". There are three different kinds of irony. The different ironies are verbal, dramatic, and
situational irony. Not only does "The Pardoner's Tale" give us examples of irony, but blasphemy is also present in the story.
An example of verbal irony is when the youngest rioter says he wants to kill some rats so he goes to an apothecary. This is an example of verbal irony
because the reader assumes that he is actually is talking about rats, but that assumption is wrong. Those "rats" he wants to kill are actually the other two
rioters. This is verbal irony because the young rioter says one thing but means another.
An example of dramatic irony is when the old man tells the rioters will find death.

Anne Hutchinson and Puritan Leadership Essay
Anne Hutchinson and Puritan Leadership Anne Hutchinson was a strong willed and intelligent woman that lived in 1637 in the Massachusetts Bay
colony. She opposed both John Winthrop, governor of the colony, as well as the Puritan church leaders who had a different set of beliefs from her,
and made up the court of elected officials that assisted the governor. She was banished from the colony in 1638 on charges of blasphemy, because she
claimed to have direct and divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit, in a Puritan community it was thought that only preachers and other church leaders
could see God, this idea was known as the covenant of works. Anne Hutchinson was a believer in the covenant of grace where God could show himself

That is why she held discussions on sermons for her followers, after she received divine inspiration from God, because she felt that Puritan preachers
were not interpreting God's word correctly. After openly and publicly disagreeing with the teachings of the Puritan preachers and holding her
discussions about their sermons Anne Hutchinson was taken into court by Governor John Winthrop on counts of disturbing the peace and slandering the
ministry.
After a long and back and forth trial Anne Hutchinson was charged with blasphemy and sentenced to banishment from the colony. The trial was
controversial because she really had not done anything illegal, but because of the notion that women should be submissive to men in the colonies,
and her defying the church were strongly frowned open especially by men. It was also a male dominated society, so Anne Hutchinson did not ever
really have a chance for a totally unbiased trial. Such as the one Roger Williams received, he was tried for some of the same things Hutchinson was
tried for, but because of his gender probably received more of a fair trial because of his gender. Williams was not banished from his colony, where
Hutchinson was banished from the Massachusetts Bay colony on the charges of blasphemy. She was convicted of this because in the beliefs by the
Puritan preachers only preachers and other church leaders could

Blasphemy Law Research Paper
The Blasphemy Law that Malala mentioned in Chapter 17 restricted Pakistani citizens freedom in beliefs. They are not allowed to speak their mind
out against the Holy Quran without being sentenced to death. The Blasphemy Law definitely contradicts of one Jinnah's speeches which was about
"people of all religions being free to worship in the new Pakistan" (222). This also ties in with Malala thinking Jinnah would be disappointed with the
poor changes in Pakistan. According to Malala, the killing of Osama bin Laden had opened the Pakistani's eyes to see that even though the U.S. and
the Pakistani were supposed to be allies but when the U.S. needed help the Pakistani government did not help. As stated on page 212, "But we soon

This is all understandable after all Malala is becoming an inspirational figure and that is against the Taliban motives. The Taliban wants to be able to
control the citizens and with Malala encouraging them to stand up for themselves will interrupt Taliban plans. According to Malala, the Taliban
were threatening her life because she was spreading "secularism" (223). Malala didn't seem to give it any attention, in fact, she isn't afraid of death,
her mindset is definitely not like any average children. Everyone will eventually die when their time comes. Malala doesn't seem to want to waste
her time on worrying and try to continue with her daily life. Malala goes into such vivid detail about everything that happened on the day she was
shot because it was the day that changes everything. She described her last normal day, doing what she normally do and worrying about persuading
people to let girls go to school instead of the shooting that happened. The shooting changed her life, she was in danger but she also became

Blasphemy In William Faulkner's The Boxcar Children
"If you don't turn in your reading logs on time," cackled my 2nd grade teacher, who will be addressed as Mrs. N, "You'll have to turn your sticks,
and you will have to stay in from recess and read The Boxcar Children." This was blasphemy. Was there no safe haven from the evils of reading?
This was the third recess of the week destroyed by those vile compositions. My love of reading had been torn to proverbial shreds, until 7th grade,
when it was reborn with the help of a creative, inspiring teacher named Mrs. Caudill.
Growing up, I had always loved reading; it intrigued me and stimulated me in ways the typical preschool and Kindergarten lessons couldn't. I'd come
home from a long day of coloring shapes, wrists sore from fiercely ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It had been the third day in a row that I was stuck in there with those two, watching my friends have a great time with a book shoved in my face. It just
got drilled into my head that reading meant I had done something wrong. This distaste for reading continued through my life, faking my way
through reading log descriptions and forging my parents' signatures, up until about seventh grade. I was a bit angsty in middle school. I got into
some trouble and veered off course a bit. Mrs. Caudill, though, saw the good in me and didn't give up on my character. She offered new and
creative ways to express ourselves, and it renewed my interest in English in a big way. I remember the first book I had read since elementary was a
recommendation from her, Unwind. I fell in love with that book immediately. I actually read it a few more times later inhigh school. It just changed my
entire perception of reading. Instead of using it as an escape from my life, I used it as an example of how my life could be worse. I think that's why I
enjoy the horror

Stereotypes In 'Language Arts'
Language arts Essay
The definition of stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Many characters are
stereotyped in this novel because of the image of god and the beliefs of blasphemies. Joseph is stereotyped very well, some examples are cold
hearted, strong willed and bad tempered. Joseph is David's father, is the priest of the town, he is strongly against blasphemies.
Cold hearted describes Joseph as a very abusive father and has no sympathy for his son David. When Sophie's secret was let out David had a huge
secret to hold for everyone mainly against his father who is against blasphemies, later in the story Sophie's 6 toes secret gets let out and her family
leaves town, David arrives late that night depressed that his friend left and Joseph questions David why he was out and what's going on. David
responds as I don't know trying to hide Sophie's secret his father then beats David until he speaks and lets out Sophie's secret. Joseph is the religious
leader of the town so he has the final say in life or death for people, which is also cold hearted. I believe cold hearted describes his actions perfectly ...

Joseph has a very bad temper going back when he beat his son just so that David would speak, also when David wished he had another arm. He
reacted horribly to this automatically getting angry and responding with "you.... my own son wishing upon the devil for another arm" (pg.26)which
means he is very narrow minded and has no sympathy for blasphemies even though he can sort of figure out that his son David is telepathic which
means he is considered a blasphemy. He has a very strong view towards blasphemies and describes them as inhuman, so anything wishing close to be
one would easily anger Joseph. He is stereotyped bad tempered for the constant way he treats his son and his views towards anyone who isn't

The Young Pope: Belardo's Blasphemy
The new series "The Young Pope" has gained rave reviews after it premiered on HBO last week, but it has also been slammed for its un–Christ–like
portrayal of the Catholic Church's leader.
In a commentary, Maria Jeffrey of Conservative Review described HBO's "The Young Pope" s an attack on theCatholic Church which is packaged in
such a way that the show's "blasphemy" appears acceptable. Jeffrey said priests and nuns are not perfect, but they can be depicted in such a way that is
not blasphemous to the church.
In "The YoungPope," Jude Law plays Lenny Belardo, an American abandoned by his parents and raised by a nun named Sister Mary. He takes the
name Pius XIII when he rises to papacy later on.

Absolute Blasphemy: Willy Loman's Death Of A Salesman

The oppressing heat emanated from within my body, fuelled by the woman that objected my vision. The familiar sensation of frustration gushed
through my veins, increasing in intensity when she remained stationary, urging my temper. I observed as she persisted in her torments, humiliating
and degrading a young man: who was merely attempting to reach his seat. His body language spoke volumes, indicating his stress and confusion, it
was all too familiar. His hands fumbled as did his words, struggling to hinder his anger. I watched her, desperate to be heard, as she persisted in
denying access to his seat. His face contorted rich with pain, as he repeatedly attempted to gain a position in his seat, but to no avail. The woman
refused, claiming it was 'absolute blasphemy' that he, a black man be seated beside her.

Jesus Of Nazareth Blasphemy
Yesterday, in the city of Judea, a man, going by the name of "Jesus of Nazareth" was crucified, for blasphemy. In his crimes, he claimed to be the
son of God, and was apparently spreading false tales and stories. He had amassed a large following of people, including the 12 he held most dear,
the disciples. In the week before his death, he had been observed to enter Jerusalem through the East gate, as onlookers laid down palm leaves, to
mark the coming of the "Messiah". On the second day, he was observed to have turned over tables in the temple, feeling evidently angry at the fact
there were gamblers inside the temple, he also very rudely refused to sacrifice an animal to enter the temple, claiming that he did not agree with the

His mother could be heard wailing loudly at the scene. Jesus was very quickly buried, without a proper funeral, this was partly due to the fact the
next day was the Holy Sabbath, and no work could be done on this day. It is here we turn our attention to the story of Jesus, how, without any solid
proof, was he able to amass such a following? Furthermore, why were the people of Judea so ready to abandon their loyalty to King Herod, and
fully support this Jesus character? Have the Jews of Judea lost hope? Jesus told many stories, about lambs, and how he felt everyone was special.
Curiously, he also spoke to and offered his help to lepers and prostitutes. Perhaps this man was very empathetic towards these people's struggles, and
felt that they were not too dissimilar to his own. This man was obviously one of great charisma, and his talents helped to spread happiness throughout
the city. Was it truly a good idea to crucify him. Eyewitnesses also report that on the cross, he was adorned with a crown of thorns, and the inscription
on his cross read "Jesus of Nazareth: King of Judea." In a cruel mocking

What Is Taboo And Obscenity?
TWs can not be fully understood without a clear discussion of their different types and categories. Jay (1996) classified dirty words by their
connotation rather than by their denotation into different categories : Taboo, obscenity, vulgarity, blasphemy, profanity, insults, expletive, cursing and
slang (as cited in Holster, 2005). These types of TWs can not be separated completely as they always overlap with each other. For instance, when you
use a curse word in front of others, you are probably insulting them. 1.3.5.1. Taboo and Obscenity The term taboo and obscenity are used
interchangeably to refer to the type of words which are totally prohibited in the society. This includes TWs which refer to the intimate parts of the body,

Cursing and Slang According to the Oxford English Dictionary (1999), cursing is "uttering against (persons or things) words which consign [...]
them to evil spiritual or temporal, as the wrath of God or the malignity of fate". Ljung (2011) points out that " curses tend to contain either a
subjunctive verb form, as in 'The devil take you' or a modal auxiliary as in 'May the devil take you " (p.31). However, "today they are more used in
abbreviated form as in 'Fuck you' " (ibid, pp.31_32). Ayoto and Simpson (1992) defined slang as a kind of "very informal language that includes new
and sometimes not polite words and meanings" (as cited in StenstrГ¶m, 2000, p.90). It is mostly used as "name–calling, gender–related insults,
sexuality and discrimination" (Jay, 1999, p.175). It is difficult to draw a line between the concepts of slang and cursing as they are used sometimes
interchangeably to refer to a set of rude words and it is believed that slang is a subcategory of cursing as pointed out by Jay (ibid) : "Cursing includes
categories such as slang [...] slang is an important part of offensive words" (p.

Jesus: A Thematic Analysis
26. The method of Chronology is simply a means of helping us arrange the events of Christ's life and ministry in some semblance of order for our
own ease in understanding. For example, "four months, then comes the harvest" (John 4:35), which He made in Samaria, was a chronological
indicator. That's to say, several clues or chronological indicators exist which help us data the event. By chronological indicator we mean a word or
combination of words or thoughts that refers to a specific happening and places an event in a recoginzed time frame. According to chronological
indicator, we may connect the human experience and feeling about the season as the time of Jesus' baptism and the season of temptation that followed
immediately in the wilderness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jesus was the Paschal Lamb and ready to be offered, the righteous for the unrighteous in the section. At the beginging of the accusing, the chief
priests and the Sanhedrin cought Jesus' answer to condemn his blasphemy. They responded by indicating that He was worthy of death, but they did
not have the authority to put people into death. They would recommend that the Roman governor put Christ to death for blasphemy. After
questioning Jesus, the governor, Pelate found no basis for executing Him. While the religious leaders pointed a clue that Jesus was a Galilen was
under the jurisdiction of Herod, Pilate sent Him to Herod for judgment because Herod was in Jerusalem at the time. But Herod just ridiculed and
mocked Him, then sent Him back to Pilate. Herod had no desire to make a final judgment. Pilate knew that his arguments regarding Christ's
innocence were ineffective, and he did not want to provoke any incident. The charge of blasphemy, however, was not what finally caused Pilate's
decision. Those prosecutor changed their preliminary charge against Christ. They accused Christ of claiming to be a king and in conflict with the rule
of Rome. This charge, then, was treason and represented a political threat the Pilate could not ignore. Finally, John's account gives us a record of
Pilate's exchanges with Jesus, the governor's exchanges with the Jews and the unbelievable apostasy of the Jews revealed in their statement, "We have
no king but Caesar" (John 19:15). The religious

The Pros And Cons Of Banned Books
In 1982, First Amendment Rights activist Judith King began Banned Books Week in order to bring banned books "to the attention of the American
public" (Revolvy, 2017, В¶2). A banned book is a piece of literature that was "banned" from schools or libraries due to its controversial content. Some
of these "controversial" topics include racism (seen in Huckleberry Finn), "damaging lifestyles" (such as drug use, co–habitation without marriage, etc),
or presence of witchcraft (seen in Harry Potter). The books with this content have been banned in order to prevent controversies in the classroom and

For example, the Spanish Inquisition in 1478 drove out all non–Catholics in Spain in an attempt to "purify" the Spaniards. A modern–day example of
religious intolerance is in the Middle East. Blasphemy laws are an example of religious discrimination, as blasphemy in this context is essentially the
practice of any religion other than Islam. According to Huffington Post, "These laws... often carry with them a mandatory death sentence. Allegations
of blasphemy are often presented with no evidence, because to reproduce the evidence would be to reproduce the blasphemy." This is evidence that
practicing a religion other than Islam in the Middle East comes with a large risk that many are unwilling to take, which is why Christianity only makes
up 4% of the entire Middle East (Ben–Mei, 2017, В¶1). Nevertheless, learning about this type of religious discrimination and about religions in
general is an important aspect of a student's life. By learning about other religions from a nonbiased perspective, students are far less likely to
discriminate against religions other than their own and can reduce bias later on in life. This is perfectly summarized by the Washington Post when it
states, "The study of religion from an academic, nondevotional perspective in primary, middle, and secondary school is critical for decreasing

Change, the essential of life, it can be tranquility or turbulence, change has no set goal, it occurs all around us without us knowing. In the novel, The

Essay On Ideology Of Pakistan
The consequences of independence from British control over India and demise of British colonial power in the South Asian subcontinent led to the
genesis of a new country up on the world map on 14th August 1947. Undoubtedly, the fundaments of the demand of a separate country were based on
the religious identity and an intention to provide a secure haven for the Muslims from Hindu dominated India. However, Pakistan was not meant to be a
theocratic state, in which the rulers of government are vested with the uncontrolled power of religion. Instead, the founder of Pakistan Muhammad Ali

minority to sustain in India. Therefore, the problem of minority rights was the cutting edge of all the political debates revolving around the formation
of Pakistan.
While Jinnah's approach represented a state having equality for all and free from any kind of discrimination of religion, caste and creed, there was a
demand from fundamentalist Islamic leaders for a strict Islamic mechanism to run the state affairs. Jinnah demanded a state for Muslims minority in
India, where religious freedom offered to other faith groups could be observed as the matter of tolerance and acceptance on behalf of the Muslim
majority.

Religious Sensitivities Between Religion And Art Beckons...
Religious Sensitivities
And
Art
Savannah Lewis
Many artists have broken old traditions by allowing a shroud of their faith and many others have not needed or intended to do so. The clash between
religion and art beckons controversy and the wrath of family and community. Despite the sensitivities, ideas, or faiths of any given group or person,
religion should not create taboo stipulations on any type of art. [1a] The word taboo "On the one hand it means to us sacred, consecrated: but on the
other hand it means, uncanny, dangerous, forbidden, and unclean."[1b] The question is where is the line drawn that separates what artwork can and
can't be show without upsetting the public?
"The taboo restrictions are different from religious or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a part of the exhibit "Beware, Religion!" that opened at the Andrei Sakharov Museum in Moscow. This is one of 4 renderings, two digital
prints and 2 acrylic on canvas paintings. This digital print mixes the modern pop art logo of Coca–Cola with an image of Jesus. It is one of the modern
poster children for a stand against consumerism. The controversy jams the gears because of the fact that it is 'taboo', meshing a religious icon with a
logo that isn't habitually associated with religion immediately turns into something perceived as disrespectful.
Another example of controversial art is Piss Christ by Andres Serrano. It is a photo of a crucifix submerged in Serrano's urine. Protesters stated that in
this work Serrano had desecrated something sacred by not showing appropriate respect for Christ. But with so many different religions and
denominations how can one pinpoint what is and what isn't the appropriate respect for Christ? Further dissection of this piece might lead one to believe
it lacked respect for the Christian faith.
A final example of controversial art is Yo Mama's Last Supper by RenГ©e Cox; this 5 (31" x 31") panel photo shows Cox nude posed as Jesus, from
Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper, surrounded by 12 fully–clothed male disciples, all of them Black with the exception of Judas, who was white. This
was obviously very controversial due to the fact that there's

Punishment In Dante's Inferno
What is Hell? During the fourteenth century, Dante Alighieri was exiled from his home in Florence, Italy and wrote The Devine Comedy: The
Inferno while in exile. In this text, Dante gives detailed descriptions of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. He wrote this poem in order to get revenge on the
political figures who had banished him. Walter Scott explained this perfectly in his book, The Heart of Midlothian, "Revenge, the sweetest morsel to
the mouth that ever was cooked in hell" (Scott). In many ways, The Inferno was designed as a type of memoir to depict the sins that surrounded him in
Florence. In Dante's Inferno creates an imaginative connection between a soul's sinner on Earth and the punishment the sinner receives in Hell.
The first example of Dante's "the punishment fits the crime" concept, in Inferno had to deal with the wrathful and the sullen. In The Inferno, the fifth
circle of hell is reserved for the wrathful and the sullen. The wrathful are on the bank of the river Styx and are constantly fighting in the mud. Fitting
because they could not manage their anger in life. They spent their life fighting so they must fight the mud for all eternity. Wrath and anger are both
traits that are highly frowned upon even today. As in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This circle is reserved for the flatterers. These sinners are buried in Excrement. Fitting due to the fact that while in life, the excrement, or "BS", that
came from their mouths, they now are drowning in. It could not be more simply explained than it is in Jane Ere, "It does good to no woman to be
flattered by a man" (Bronte). Though in the case of this text, gender does not necessarily matter. Flatterers are flatterers no matter their gender, race, or
social standing. However, despite all of those factors, the punishment was still horrifyingly brutal. Hundreds of flatterers in a large river of excrement
is hardly an enjoyable way to spend an

Dante's Hell In The Inferno
It is very interesting to me how so many individuals are able to have such extensive and varied definitions of what they believe is right verse wrong.
It is obvious that society throughout the years has had a wide spectrum of what we believe is sin and what is not. These different lenses can be
altered by several factors such as how a person was raised, their culture, and also their personal religious beliefs. It is essential that we learn to not
understand others perspective but to also respect their perspectives as well. The structure of Dante's Hell in the Inferno is very complex and detailed.

Dante's Moral Beliefs Of Christianity And Islam
Dante's christian version of hell reflects his upbringing; it also reflects his life as a man caught between shackles of the Middle Ages and the
liberation of the Renaissance. In Islam sins are similar, in both Christianity and Islam believe in similar concepts such as Jesus, but Jesus' story has
different details between both religions and Christianity's sins and Islam has a vastly different moral compass.
.
Christianity and Islam have vastly different morals, but one is blasphemy against God. In Islam, the Five Pillars of Islam set the framework of the
model Muslim life. The first pillar in Islam is Shahada, the Muslim profession of faith, which expresses the two simple and fundamental beliefs that
make one a Muslim: La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah.
This means that there is no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God. The worst sin in Islam is to associate God with partners or a son
because it portrays God as human like or not one of a kind because in Islam there is only one God and nothing is like him. In the Bible, it's written in
Matthew 12:31–32: "And I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone
who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or
in the age to come." In Christianity, blasphemy against Jesus is not considered a one–time offense; rather, it is a stubborn way of

The Causes Of Blasphemy In Pakistan
"Since 1990, at least 73 people have been killed over alleged blasphemy, according to an Al Jeerza tally (Pakistan minister resigns ending Islamabad

Islam, so when taken lightly, situations can easily get out of hand. Pakistan's Federal Law Minister, Zahid Hamid, is being accused of blasphemy
because of wording in his oath, because of his oath he's being protested by numerous religious groups; the protests will either lead to countrywide
violence, or a resignation of Hamid. Pakistan's federal law minister, was being protested to resign from office because of extreme protesting against
him for breaking his oath. According to religious protester, Khadim Hussain Rizvi, the minister had a sense of wording that made ease for those banned
from identification as Muslims. Hashim says, "The protesters. . . perceived the change in wording as representing a softening of the state's position
against members of the Ahmadi sect, who are not permitted to identify themselves as Muslims in Pakistan. (Pakistan minister resigns, ending Islamabad

The Golden Legend By Nadeem Aslam
The novel The Golden Legend by Nadeem Aslam is one filled with many thought provoking scenes. The novel follows the misfortune that surrounds
Nargis and her friends and family. From these events I found that religious intolerance was one of the main driving forces behind why the events
occurred. Religious intolerance is when a religious group refuses to tolerate practices or beliefs based on religious grounds. Throughout the novel there
are many references to both Christian and Islamic prejudices and intolerance towards the other religion. In Pakistan, 97% of the population are Muslim
with the remaining 3% being comprised of other religions including Christianity and Judaism; contrastingly in the United States, 1% of the population is

Aslam uses the characters in The Golden Legend to depict a Muslim society where there is peace, while still displaying the underlying current of
religious domination which controls the Islamic society. Lily and Helen are targeted and receive little respect simply for being Christian. Nargis is

Lisa Curtis (2016) writes about Pakistan's history with regard to religious minorities. She mentions the drive behind creating a true Islamic state and
how this has affected the treatment of religious minorities. Curtis describes the 1980s as a key period in the establishment of the discord between
Pakistan's Muslims and the country's religious minorities, such as Christians. With the tightening of blasphemy laws in this period by Zia ul–Haq more
in a push towards having a single religion country, resulted in an imbalance of rights between Pakistan's religions. Curtis states that blasphemy
allegations were often fabricated, and still are today, in an attempt to intimidate minorities. Blasphemy laws are very vague with little detail about what
a violation entails. But the part of the laws that is most related to intolerance is that there is no requirement of evidence for the charge of blasphemy.
This results in many innocent people being accused of blasphemy simply for their religion. In The Golden

Blasphemers
Islamic legal authorities agree that a blasphemer can be Muslim or non–Muslim. To be convicted of blasphemy, an individual must be an adult, of
sound mind, and not under duress. Some jurisdictions do not punish individuals who commit blasphemy accidentally. The Maliki School of
Jurisprudence permits the exoneration of accused individuals who are converts to Islam.

A blasphemer, who violates the "right of God" can seek forgiveness through repentance.
The Holy Quran speaks of punishment in relation only to those who make war and mischief in opposition to Almighty God and Holy Prophet (PBUH):
The punishment of those who wage war against Almighty God and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is:
execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a
heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter (Surah Maida: 33)
Blasphemy against Holy Prophet (PBUH)
A blasphemer, who violates the "right of Man" must seek forgiveness from the person insulted. In the case of an insult to Holy Prophet (PBUH), the
Muslim community is considered to be under an obligation to avenge the insult because the possibility of forgiveness expired upon the death of Holy
Prophet (PBUH).

Genesis 2: 2-11 Biblical Beliefs
The healing of the impotent man on the Sabbath proved to the turning point of the Jewish authority's wrath towards Jesus. While Genesis 2:2–3 teaches
that God rested on the seventh day of creation, Jewish rabbis agreed that God continually upheld the universe, yet without breaking the Sabbath. If God
was above Sabbath regulations, so was Jesus (Matthew 12). His enemies charged him not only with sabbath–breaking, but blasphemy, in calling God
his own Father, and identifying his equality with God in nature. Jesus begins to refute their accusations as he states, "My Father has been working until
now, and I have been working." (John 5:17). All things have been committed to the Son. Anyone who does not honor the Son, does not honor the

us that Abraham is a creature, a creation, and that Our Lord is the Creator. Christ not only makes himself greater than Abraham, but the "I AM"

The Salman Rushdie Case: An Islamic View
Khalid Zaheer is a fervent critic of liberal and religious extremism, and firmly believes that Islam provides a remedy for this plague by preaching an
ideology of a pluralistic society that espouses of peace, harmony and egalitarianism. His article, "The Salman Rushdie Case: An Islamic View" was
posted on his official website in July 2007 and is aimed at addressing the resentment against Salman Rushdie's controversial book "The Satanic Verses"
in the Muslim community. Muslims accused Rushdie of apostasy and blasphemy against their prophet and demanded his immediate execution. In his
article, Zaheer bases his claims on credible historical religious evidence and argues that the Muslim demand for Rushdie's death is absolutely
un–Islamic, since Islamic law has never suggested capital punishment for blasphemy and irtidad – apostasy. Zaheer's effective use of credible sources
and logical progression of ideas along with the rhetorical devices efficiently develop his argument and persuade the reader. However, his occasional
fallacious reasoning and overlooking of significant details make the reader question the reliability of his assertions. Zaheer logically denies that
blasphemy and apostasy beg execution of the convict, and simultaneously appeals to the religious sentiments of the reader to strengthen his stance. He

How Did Blasphemy Trials Affect The Lives Of Indigenous...
The Spanish Inquisition was originally an institution developed in Spain to conduct trials by the Catholic Monarchs. The Inquisition's trial courts
focused on ensuring that the Catholic Doctrine was enforced. After the conquering and colonization of indigenous groups within the New World the
colony of New Spain was formed. The Spanish Crown sought to use the Inquisition to prosecute those guilty of heresy or blasphemy, which is the act of
denouncing God or demeaning religious ideas. Comparing and analyzing Spanish Inquisition blasphemy trial documents demonstrate the recorded
history and process by which these trials started and ended. Which presents us with the question, how did blasphemy trials effect the personal lives of
indigenous groups within New Spain?
To investigate the history and impact of the Spanish Inquisition focus on the process and punishment of blasphemy trials will improve an
understanding of the effect of these institutions. The Catholic Monarchs King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella justified the establishment of the
Inquisition in Spain and The New World by constructing it as a form of religious purification. The history of the Tribunal del Santo Oficio de la
InquisiciГіn, or as it is more commonly known the Spanish Inquisition began during the 15th century and did not end until the early 19th. The
Episcopal Inquisition was established in 1536 and was the first religious court. Fray Juan de Zumarraga was a Bishop and a member of the Franciscan

Religion and Blasphemy Ideology
Chapter 9 Question 2
Trace the origin of the law of blasphemy and explain the relevance or otherwise of this law
Introduction
Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing open disrespect of God through display of inappropriate behavior towards holy personages, religious
artifacts, customs and beliefs. The word "blasphemy" came via Middle English blasfemen, from which the English term "blame" came into existence
(Wikipedia.com n.d). Blasphemy is regarded as an offense against the community to varying degrees, depending on the extent of the identification of a
religion with the society at large or the government. Blasphemy has been a crime in many religions and cultures, wherever there is something sacred to

In New Testament times, it was this Old Testament law against blasphemy that the Scribes, Pharisees, Chief Priests and rulers of the people used in
order to condemn anyone who spoke out against the corruption of their religious order (Truth in history, n.d).
There was one such case in Australia back in 1871 when William Lorando Jones was prosecuted for claiming that the Bible was "the most immoral
book that ever has been published" and "not a fit book for any female to read", and that the children of Israel murdered the Egyptians, and that Elisha
"murdered a number of priests of Baal by his God's authority" and that Moses "saved 40,000 Midianitish women to make them prostitute to his
soldiers" (Arnold, 2008). Mr. Jones had been reading the Old Testament and in retrospect his claims echo comments made by biblical scholars since at
least the 1850s. Jones was preaching blasphemous verse to the local masses in suburban Parramatta, Sydney and was convicted with a ВЈ100 fine. The
case of The Queen against William Lorando Jones proved the churches fear of Blasphemy among the common people due to its potential to orientate
the lesser educated community against the state. From a media sociological perspective, the church feared that the community would become an active

Blasphemk Case Summary
Rev. Franklin Graham has urged believers all over the world to pray for Jakarta's Christian governor Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, who currently
faces the possibility of a five–year prison term over false blasphemy allegations.
In a recent post on Facebook, Rev. Graham said Christians need to pray for Gov. Ahok, who is being targeted by Muslims in a blasphemy case
because of his faith. The renowned evangelist also noted that hardline Muslims have called for the Jakarta governor to be lynched, The Christian Post
relays.
"We need to pray for the Christian governor of Jakarta, Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama, who is on trial for what Muslims are calling blasphemy,

Graham described Ahok's situation as the kind of persecution Christians in Muslim countries experience. The Christian leader called for prayers not
only for the Jakarta governor but also for his family.
The blasphemy allegations against Ahok come as he is seeking re–election as governor of Jakarta. The Christian governor made headlines when he was
accused of insulting Islam in September when he told fishermen in the Thousand Islands that his opponents are lying by telling Muslims that the Quran
commands them not to vote for non–Muslims.
Facebook user Buni Yani, who reportedly uploaded an edited video of Ahok's speech in Thousand Islands, admitted that he misquoted the governor's
speech. On Dec. 11, he faced police investigators as a witness in the high–profile blasphemy case, The Jakarta Globe reports.
The edited video that Yani uploaded was the one that sparked anger among hardline Muslims. Ahok originally told the audience that they have been
lied to by those who misquote the Quran. However, Yani tweaked the video to make it appear that the Christian governor said the people have been
lied to by a certain verse in the Islamic holy

Censorship in Art Debate"TITLE"Should Art Be Censored? Controversy Explained" TITLE"History of Art Censorship and Its Impacts"TITLE"Plato to Today: Evolution of Art Censorship"TITLE"Arguments For and Against Art Censorship

  • 1. Censorship In Art Since the beginning of time art has been an important aspect to our lives. We learn from it, admire it, and some even relate to it in different ways. Art comes in many different forms it could be sculptures, photography, paintings or music. Some forms of art could be inappropriate and offensive to some people. Should all art be censored? A great deal of controversy has been provoked by this. Although you may not think that different forms of art are beneficial to our every day lives, actually they are. If there was no art, we would not have any idea how people lived in the past. We still do not know exactly how they lived, but the artifacts left behind gives us clues. Some of the art may show nuidty and be innapprotpiate. The artist definitely had a meaning behind their piece of art, and had symbolism to it. From that we can get an idea to how life was back then. Due to pieces of art like this, many people argue that art should be censored. This goes back to Plato's proposal to ban mimetic art for its moral and epistemological evil ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). Artists in the East and West have had to denounce and deal with the censor of their art since the twentieth century ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). Since then popular artists have been doing everything they can to protect art's freedom and right to exist ("Aesthetic Censorship: Censoring Art for Art's Sake"). For example Michelangelo's, "The Last Judgement" that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a small agricultural community which lies in the west of Labrador. They have a maritime climate, being remotely tropical, without extreme heat. There tend to be a vast amount of forest cover with many fields making up most of the landscape. The people of Newf and Labrador are the only humans who retained the pre–Tribulation phenotype. The only other known civilizations are vague and coloured by religious dogma. The Theocracy run government follows the Bible and the Repentances as a means of guidelines. Run off of the fear of God Himself, the people survive by keeping their race in the True Image. They do this by having inspectors which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The mandatory capital punishment accompanying the charge has long been denounced as excessive and disproportionate to the crime. It is a matter of controversy even within the Islamic circles. 3. The wording of the blasphemy law is vague and open–ended. So often, the wordings are misinterpreted according to the wishes of the plaintiff. Often the accused do not have the necessary knowledge of Islam to interpret the wordings of the law. For example it does not clearly state that what kind of remarks pass off as derogatory and offensive to the Islamic faith. In the southern Punjab, where many Christians live, Christian missionaries a, churches and schools, have been accused under the blasphemy law of defiling Islam, on the context that they are spreading the Christian faith. It is the lack of clarity in the clauses of the law, which is making people take full advantage of the situation. 4. The law does not require proof of the actual state of mind of the accused and disregards the element of intention. Since its enactment in 1986, it has frequently been distorted to intimidate or punish religious minorities and to settle personal scores. Hundreds of innocent people have been imprisoned, forced to flee the country or killed by Islamic extremists under the pretext of punishing blasphemers. In all the cases that we went ... • 4. Identity In The Chrysalids Set in the near future of a post–apocalyptic world, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, follows humanity decades after as it continues to rebuild from a tribulation believe to have been sent by God to punish sinners of the past. The inhabitants of this dystopian society are left with little knowledge of their past, with only a copy of the Bible and its Repentances left by the past inhabitants, to give them a sense of direction. Wyndham presents the Waknuks (a small community living in this post tribulation world) struggles as a society to understand identity by practicing religious beliefs, physical appearance and fears a false perception of identity. The small community of Waknuk demonstrates a strong belief in their relationship with God ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In fact, without knowing a deeper understanding of deformities, the Waknuk community instilled fear with the mutants, using those with deformities as a way to scare troublesome children to behave (Wyndham 21) at such a young age the children of this society are pampered to fear the mutants and example of this is on page –––when David states that all the teachings learned in class lead the community to believe that their reason here on this earth was to simply rid of it's 'evil' and make it pure once again (Wyndham 41). Thus, giving their lives a sense of duty– a reason to be on this planet. "... A lot of people saying that a thing is so, doesn't prove it is so... Nobody really knows what is the true image (Wyndham 64)." The perception of what something really is seems to pop up around the book continuous times for example in page –––– of The Chrysalids "...[whether you were the Norm or had deformities] they think that [ their own community] is the true pattern of the Old People" the quote continues on with David stating " the bible does not say anything to contradict the [Old People] were anything like the [Waknuks] (Wyndham 63)." No longer do readers see a community performing acts in the name of the Lord, however, performing these acts in a struggle to find their own self–identity; to find ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Crime In 16th Century England Sixteenth century England was a time of laws and religion. Both relied heavily on each other. As the churches grew and Queen Elizabeth came into power, laws were often made to specifically protect the church. Crimes such as blasphemy and treason could be punishable by death or torture. Treason is the crime of trying to betray a country, usually by trying to overthrow the current state of the government or other systems, such as the power of the church. This is a crime that no one was exempt from. Many priests and even Queen Elizabeth had been sent to the Tower of London. Elizabeth I was pardoned, others however could be tortured for months or be ordered to be executed. Blasphemy is the act of talking sacrilegiously about the beliefs of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lower class citizens of England resorted to stealing for what they needed to survive, and if they were caught the punishment was rarely enjoyable. Usually a person caught stealing would have a hand cut off. The Band of Thieves was a large group of men and women taking from whoever they could, members that were caught were often tortured and publicly humiliated. Beggars were considered the rats of people. They dressed in the most ragged clothes and begged a passerby for money. If caught he or she would be beaten and driven out of the city, usually ordered to never return. There were even laws against cutting down certain trees; the crime was punishable by death. Trees such as the Ash Tree, Dogwood, and others with a religious background or significant use, the crime would be considered as a form of blasphemy in some cases. The courts and trials were usually public spectacles. Judgment was typically in favor of the persecutor, meaning there were a lot of guilty citizens. Anyone accused were taken to court and tried. • 6. Examples Of Irony In The Pardoner's Tale There are many examples of irony in "The Pardoner's Tale". There are three different kinds of irony. The different ironies are verbal, dramatic, and situational irony. Not only does "The Pardoner's Tale" give us examples of irony, but blasphemy is also present in the story. An example of verbal irony is when the youngest rioter says he wants to kill some rats so he goes to an apothecary. This is an example of verbal irony because the reader assumes that he is actually is talking about rats, but that assumption is wrong. Those "rats" he wants to kill are actually the other two rioters. This is verbal irony because the young rioter says one thing but means another. An example of dramatic irony is when the old man tells the rioters will find death. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anne Hutchinson and Puritan Leadership Essay Anne Hutchinson and Puritan Leadership Anne Hutchinson was a strong willed and intelligent woman that lived in 1637 in the Massachusetts Bay colony. She opposed both John Winthrop, governor of the colony, as well as the Puritan church leaders who had a different set of beliefs from her, and made up the court of elected officials that assisted the governor. She was banished from the colony in 1638 on charges of blasphemy, because she claimed to have direct and divine inspiration from the Holy Spirit, in a Puritan community it was thought that only preachers and other church leaders could see God, this idea was known as the covenant of works. That is why she held discussions on sermons for her followers, after she received divine inspiration from God, because she felt that Puritan preachers were not interpreting God's word correctly. After openly and publicly disagreeing with the teachings of the Puritan preachers and holding her discussions about their sermons Anne Hutchinson was taken into court by Governor John Winthrop on counts of disturbing the peace and slandering the ministry. After a long and back and forth trial Anne Hutchinson was charged with blasphemy and sentenced to banishment from the colony. The trial was controversial because she really had not done anything illegal, but because of the notion that women should be submissive to men in the colonies, and her defying the church were strongly frowned open especially by men. It was also a male dominated society, so Anne Hutchinson did not ever really have a chance for a totally unbiased trial. Such as the one Roger Williams received, he was tried for some of the same things Hutchinson was tried for, but because of his gender probably received more of a fair trial because of his gender. Williams was not banished from his colony, where Hutchinson was banished from the Massachusetts Bay colony on the charges of blasphemy. They are not allowed to speak their mind out against the Holy Quran without being sentenced to death. The Blasphemy Law definitely contradicts of one Jinnah's speeches which was about "people of all religions being free to worship in the new Pakistan" (222). This also ties in with Malala thinking Jinnah would be disappointed with the poor changes in Pakistan. According to Malala, the killing of Osama bin Laden had opened the Pakistani's eyes to see that even though the U.S. and the Pakistani were supposed to be allies but when the U.S. needed help the Pakistani government did not help. As stated on page 212, "But we soon found out that the Americans had gone it alone." which resulted in negative impacts on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is all understandable after all Malala is becoming an inspirational figure and that is against the Taliban motives. The Taliban wants to be able to control the citizens and with Malala encouraging them to stand up for themselves will interrupt Taliban plans. According to Malala, the Taliban were threatening her life because she was spreading "secularism" (223). Malala didn't seem to give it any attention, in fact, she isn't afraid of death, her mindset is definitely not like any average children. Everyone will eventually die when their time comes. Malala doesn't seem to want to waste her time on worrying and try to continue with her daily life. Malala goes into such vivid detail about everything that happened on the day she was shot because it was the day that changes everything. She described her last normal day, doing what she normally do and worrying about persuading people to let girls go to school instead of the shooting that happened. • 9. Blasphemy In William Faulkner's The Boxcar Children "If you don't turn in your reading logs on time," cackled my 2nd grade teacher, who will be addressed as Mrs. N, "You'll have to turn your sticks, and you will have to stay in from recess and read The Boxcar Children." This was blasphemy. Was there no safe haven from the evils of reading? This was the third recess of the week destroyed by those vile compositions. My love of reading had been torn to proverbial shreds, until 7th grade, when it was reborn with the help of a creative, inspiring teacher named Mrs. Caudill. Growing up, I had always loved reading; it intrigued me and stimulated me in ways the typical preschool and Kindergarten lessons couldn't. It had been the third day in a row that I was stuck in there with those two, watching my friends have a great time with a book shoved in my face. It just got drilled into my head that reading meant I had done something wrong. This distaste for reading continued through my life, faking my way through reading log descriptions and forging my parents' signatures, up until about seventh grade. I was a bit angsty in middle school. I got into some trouble and veered off course a bit. Mrs. Caudill, though, saw the good in me and didn't give up on my character. She offered new and creative ways to express ourselves, and it renewed my interest in English in a big way. I remember the first book I had read since elementary was a recommendation from her, Unwind. I fell in love with that book immediately. I actually read it a few more times later inhigh school. It just changed my entire perception of reading. Instead of using it as an escape from my life, I used it as an example of how my life could be worse. I think that's why I enjoy the horror ... • 10. Stereotypes In 'Language Arts' Language arts Essay The definition of stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Many characters are stereotyped in this novel because of the image of god and the beliefs of blasphemies. Joseph is stereotyped very well, some examples are cold hearted, strong willed and bad tempered. Joseph is David's father, is the priest of the town, he is strongly against blasphemies. Cold hearted describes Joseph as a very abusive father and has no sympathy for his son David. When Sophie's secret was let out David had a huge secret to hold for everyone mainly against his father who is against blasphemies, later in the story Sophie's 6 toes secret gets let out and her family leaves town, David arrives late that night depressed that his friend left and Joseph questions David why he was out and what's going on. David responds as I don't know trying to hide Sophie's secret his father then beats David until he speaks and lets out Sophie's secret. Joseph is the religious leader of the town so he has the final say in life or death for people, which is also cold hearted. I believe cold hearted describes his actions perfectly ... • 11. The Young Pope: Belardo's Blasphemy The new series "The Young Pope" has gained rave reviews after it premiered on HBO last week, but it has also been slammed for its un–Christ–like portrayal of the Catholic Church's leader. In a commentary, Maria Jeffrey of Conservative Review described HBO's "The Young Pope" s an attack on theCatholic Church which is packaged in such a way that the show's "blasphemy" appears acceptable. Jeffrey said priests and nuns are not perfect, but they can be depicted in such a way that is not blasphemous to the church. The familiar sensation of frustration gushed through my veins, increasing in intensity when she remained stationary, urging my temper. I observed as she persisted in her torments, humiliating and degrading a young man: who was merely attempting to reach his seat. His body language spoke volumes, indicating his stress and confusion, it was all too familiar. His hands fumbled as did his words, struggling to hinder his anger. I watched her, desperate to be heard, as she persisted in denying access to his seat. His face contorted rich with pain, as he repeatedly attempted to gain a position in his seat, but to no avail. In his crimes, he claimed to be the son of God, and was apparently spreading false tales and stories. He had amassed a large following of people, including the 12 he held most dear, the disciples. In the week before his death, he had been observed to enter Jerusalem through the East gate, as onlookers laid down palm leaves, to mark the coming of the "Messiah". Furthermore, why were the people of Judea so ready to abandon their loyalty to King Herod, and fully support this Jesus character? Have the Jews of Judea lost hope? Jesus told many stories, about lambs, and how he felt everyone was special. Curiously, he also spoke to and offered his help to lepers and prostitutes. Perhaps this man was very empathetic towards these people's struggles, and felt that they were not too dissimilar to his own. This man was obviously one of great charisma, and his talents helped to spread happiness throughout the city. Was it truly a good idea to crucify him. Jay (1996) classified dirty words by their connotation rather than by their denotation into different categories : Taboo, obscenity, vulgarity, blasphemy, profanity, insults, expletive, cursing and slang (as cited in Holster, 2005). These types of TWs can not be separated completely as they always overlap with each other. For instance, when you use a curse word in front of others, you are probably insulting them. 1.3.5.1. Cursing and Slang According to the Oxford English Dictionary (1999), cursing is "uttering against (persons or things) words which consign [...] them to evil spiritual or temporal, as the wrath of God or the malignity of fate". Ljung (2011) points out that " curses tend to contain either a subjunctive verb form, as in 'The devil take you' or a modal auxiliary as in 'May the devil take you " (p.31). However, "today they are more used in abbreviated form as in 'Fuck you' " (ibid, pp.31_32). Ayoto and Simpson (1992) defined slang as a kind of "very informal language that includes new and sometimes not polite words and meanings" (as cited in StenstrГ¶m, 2000, p.90). It is mostly used as "name–calling, gender–related insults, sexuality and discrimination" (Jay, 1999, p.175). It is difficult to draw a line between the concepts of slang and cursing as they are used sometimes interchangeably to refer to a set of rude words and it is believed that slang is a subcategory of cursing as pointed out by Jay (ibid) : "Cursing includes categories such as slang [...] slang is an important part of offensive words" (p. ... The method of Chronology is simply a means of helping us arrange the events of Christ's life and ministry in some semblance of order for our own ease in understanding. For example, "four months, then comes the harvest" (John 4:35), which He made in Samaria, was a chronological indicator. That's to say, several clues or chronological indicators exist which help us data the event. By chronological indicator we mean a word or combination of words or thoughts that refers to a specific happening and places an event in a recoginzed time frame. According to chronological indicator, we may connect the human experience and feeling about the season as the time of Jesus' baptism and the season of temptation that followed immediately in the wilderness ... They responded by indicating that He was worthy of death, but they did not have the authority to put people into death. They would recommend that the Roman governor put Christ to death for blasphemy. After questioning Jesus, the governor, Pelate found no basis for executing Him. While the religious leaders pointed a clue that Jesus was a Galilen was under the jurisdiction of Herod, Pilate sent Him to Herod for judgment because Herod was in Jerusalem at the time. But Herod just ridiculed and mocked Him, then sent Him back to Pilate. Herod had no desire to make a final judgment. Pilate knew that his arguments regarding Christ's innocence were ineffective, and he did not want to provoke any incident. The charge of blasphemy, however, was not what finally caused Pilate's decision. Those prosecutor changed their preliminary charge against Christ. They accused Christ of claiming to be a king and in conflict with the rule of Rome. This charge, then, was treason and represented a political threat the Pilate could not ignore. According to Huffington Post, "These laws... often carry with them a mandatory death sentence. Allegations of blasphemy are often presented with no evidence, because to reproduce the evidence would be to reproduce the blasphemy." This is evidence that practicing a religion other than Islam in the Middle East comes with a large risk that many are unwilling to take, which is why Christianity only makes up 4% of the entire Middle East (Ben–Mei, 2017, В¶1). Nevertheless, learning about this type of religious discrimination and about religions in general is an important aspect of a student's life. By learning about other religions from a nonbiased perspective, students are far less likely to discriminate against religions other than their own and can reduce bias later on in life. Therefore, the problem of minority rights was the cutting edge of all the political debates revolving around the formation of Pakistan. • 22. Punishment In Dante's Inferno What is Hell? During the fourteenth century, Dante Alighieri was exiled from his home in Florence, Italy and wrote The Devine Comedy: The Inferno while in exile. In this text, Dante gives detailed descriptions of Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven. He wrote this poem in order to get revenge on the political figures who had banished him. Walter Scott explained this perfectly in his book, The Heart of Midlothian, "Revenge, the sweetest morsel to the mouth that ever was cooked in hell" (Scott). In many ways, The Inferno was designed as a type of memoir to depict the sins that surrounded him in Florence. In Dante's Inferno creates an imaginative connection between a soul's sinner on Earth and the punishment the sinner receives in Hell. The first example of Dante's "the punishment fits the crime" concept, in Inferno had to deal with the wrathful and the sullen. In The Inferno, the fifth circle of hell is reserved for the wrathful and the sullen. The wrathful are on the bank of the river Styx and are constantly fighting in the mud. Dante's Moral Beliefs Of Christianity And Islam Dante's christian version of hell reflects his upbringing; it also reflects his life as a man caught between shackles of the Middle Ages and the liberation of the Renaissance. In Islam sins are similar, in both Christianity and Islam believe in similar concepts such as Jesus, but Jesus' story has different details between both religions and Christianity's sins and Islam has a vastly different moral compass. . Christianity and Islam have vastly different morals, but one is blasphemy against God. In Islam, the Five Pillars of Islam set the framework of the model Muslim life. The first pillar in Islam is Shahada, the Muslim profession of faith, which expresses the two simple and fundamental beliefs that make one a Muslim: La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah. This means that there is no god but God and Muhammad is the messenger of God. The worst sin in Islam is to associate God with partners or a son because it portrays God as human like or not one of a kind because in Islam there is only one God and nothing is like him. • 33. Genesis 2: 2-11 Biblical Beliefs The healing of the impotent man on the Sabbath proved to the turning point of the Jewish authority's wrath towards Jesus. While Genesis 2:2–3 teaches that God rested on the seventh day of creation, Jewish rabbis agreed that God continually upheld the universe, yet without breaking the Sabbath. If God was above Sabbath regulations, so was Jesus (Matthew 12). His enemies charged him not only with sabbath–breaking, but blasphemy, in calling God his own Father, and identifying his equality with God in nature. Jesus begins to refute their accusations as he states, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working." (John 5:17). All things have been committed to the Son. "Before Abraham was, I AM." (John 8:58). This statement reveals to us that Abraham is a creature, a creation, and that Our Lord is the Creator. The blasphemy case derailed his campaign for reelection thus helping the F.P.I.'s agenda for election of a Muslim governor. The emotional manipulation the F.P.I. and Hitler participated in proved to be incredibly successful in their push for power. Next, Fidel Castro attempted to appeal to the feelings of his people and Nikita Khrushchev to wage a nuclear war against the United States of America. John F. Kennedy and Nikita Khrushchev failed to take him seriously, seeming to conduct haphazard invasions. In turn, Castro worried he would "lose" Cuba and be swept under their control. To prevent this he appealed to his people by saying, "The result of aggression against Cuba will be the start of a conflagration of incalculable consequences, and they will be affected too," he told the Cuban people, "It will no longer be a matter of them feasting on us. They will get as good as they give." His words convinced the Cuban people that a suicide mission to destroy America was in their best interest. Castro's arguments were not based on logic, rather, he cited the preservation of communism as priority number one. Moreover, when the United States was alerted of Cuba's possession of missiles, and threatened Cuba he refused back down. Castro even tried to bring Khrushchev ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Salman Rushdie Case: An Islamic View Khalid Zaheer is a fervent critic of liberal and religious extremism, and firmly believes that Islam provides a remedy for this plague by preaching an ideology of a pluralistic society that espouses of peace, harmony and egalitarianism. His article, "The Salman Rushdie Case: An Islamic View" was posted on his official website in July 2007 and is aimed at addressing the resentment against Salman Rushdie's controversial book "The Satanic Verses" in the Muslim community. Muslims accused Rushdie of apostasy and blasphemy against their prophet and demanded his immediate execution. In his article, Zaheer bases his claims on credible historical religious evidence and argues that the Muslim demand for Rushdie's death is absolutely un–Islamic, since Islamic law has never suggested capital punishment for blasphemy and irtidad – apostasy. Zaheer's effective use of credible sources and logical progression of ideas along with the rhetorical devices efficiently develop his argument and persuade the reader. However, his occasional fallacious reasoning and overlooking of significant details make the reader question the reliability of his assertions. Zaheer logically denies that blasphemy and apostasy beg execution of the convict, and simultaneously appeals to the religious sentiments of the reader to strengthen his stance. He opines that the demand for Rushdie's head is absolutely contrary to the injunctions of Islamic common law, because the penalty of capital punishment for aforementioned ... In New Testament times, it was this Old Testament law against blasphemy that the Scribes, Pharisees, Chief Priests and rulers of the people used in order to condemn anyone who spoke out against the corruption of their religious order (Truth in history, n.d). There was one such case in Australia back in 1871 when William Lorando Jones was prosecuted for claiming that the Bible was "the most immoral book that ever has been published" and "not a fit book for any female to read", and that the children of Israel murdered the Egyptians, and that Elisha "murdered a number of priests of Baal by his God's authority" and that Moses "saved 40,000 Midianitish women to make them prostitute to his soldiers" (Arnold, 2008). Mr. Jones had been reading the Old Testament and in retrospect his claims echo comments made by biblical scholars since at least the 1850s. Jones was preaching blasphemous verse to the local masses in suburban Parramatta, Sydney and was convicted with a ВЈ100 fine. The case of The Queen against William Lorando Jones proved the churches fear of Blasphemy among the common people due to its potential to orientate the lesser educated community against the state. From a media sociological perspective, the church feared that the community would become an active audience in making choices about what

Graham described Ahok's situation as the kind of persecution Christians in Muslim countries experience. The Christian leader called for prayers not only for the Jakarta governor but also for his family. The blasphemy allegations against Ahok come as he is seeking re–election as governor of Jakarta. The Christian governor made headlines when he was accused of insulting Islam in September when he told fishermen in the Thousand Islands that his opponents are lying by telling Muslims that the Quran commands them not to vote for non–Muslims. Facebook user Buni Yani, who reportedly uploaded an edited video of Ahok's speech in Thousand Islands, admitted that he misquoted the governor's speech. On Dec. 11, he faced police investigators as a witness in the high–profile blasphemy case, The Jakarta Globe reports.
