. . . Finally, the data do not indicate that the drivers were at fault in the collisions; it may be that
cellular telephones merely decrease a driver's ability to avoid a collision caused by someone else.
(457) Pointing out that cell phones have benefits as well as risks, the authors do not recommend
restrictions on their use while driving. Unfortunately, most states do not keep adequate records on
the number of times phones are a factor in accidents. As of December 2000, only ten states were
trying to keep such records (Sundeen 2). In addition, currently there is little scientific evidence
comparing the use of cell phones with other driver Source: Diana Hacker (Boston: Bedford/St.

Because research results have been so inconclusive, it makes sense to wait before passing laws that

Rhetorical Analysis Of Gun Control Laws
In 2016 there where more deaths due to firearms in American then due to car accidents, according to
the National Centers for Disease control. It can happen anywhere, anytime, and anyplace. It can
happen to anyone, young old, black and white. It can be an accident, it can be on purpose. Gun
deaths happen everywhere, even right here in Iowa. In the editorial featured in the Iowa City Press–
Citizen, "Students, Families Deserve Common–Sense Gun Safety Laws," the author uses logos,
pathos, and ethos to convince legislators to pass common sense gun laws. He believes Iowans
deserve these laws passed to better protect us.
The writer appeals to ethos by explaining some of the gun laws in place now. He explains that if

Why Marijuana Should Be Legal
Valid Argument? You Must Be High
It seems as though everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the legalization of marijuana.
The question spans all age groups, races, and religions. You will hear different answers from
individuals under each group. Some view the use of the substance as a sin and believe that the use
should be a crime and others view it as a freedom that each citizen should be granted. Marty Nemko,
a Ph.D. holding, education evaluation specialist, says otherwise. In his article published by TIME
magazine, Nemko goes into details as to why he believes legalizing marijuana will have far more
consequences than it does reward. His points seem as though they would be valid, however his
argument is stretched and very weak. Nemko uses irrational logic, slanted, biased data, and opinion
based assumptions to attempt to persuade readers to join his cause. At first glance, Nemko's article
seems as though it is full of logical reasons as to why marijuana should stay illegalized in the United
States. The problem lies in his arguments. One of Nemko's main points of emphasis is what the drug
would do to children. If his argument was against the legalization of marijuana for all ages, this
would have sound reasoning. However, Nemko is not arguing this proposal. The argument in
discussion is to legalize marijuana for adults, and Nemko argues for a large portion of his paper
about a group of people who will not be affected by the law. Nemko makes the assumption that

Importance Of Propaganda In Journalism
Propaganda– Propaganda regards truth and reality. It is deceptive, purposely less than honest,
biased, devoid of a sense of fairness. It attempts to manipulate someone's ideas, actions and
attitudes. Propaganda can be used in journalism by manipulating the story to be exaggerated or
simply false. A journalist or public relations specialist could use a false or photo shopped image in a
newspaper/webpage to sway their audience into thinking the subject of their story is true and not to
their audiences knowledge it has been manipulated.
Semantics– Semantics studies how words came to be and what they mean. In a journalistic setting
when covering a story, be sure of what you are actually portraying and what you're trying to say.
There are clear distinctions between what reporting, inferences, and judgements are.
Communitarianism– Communitarianism has emphasis on society and the larger majority of a group.
In journalism or public relations and individual would look at what brings people together. For
example (fiction), covering a story about how MSU's Homecoming parade brought helping hands
together as participants prepared to rain–proof their floats last–minute, which made for a successful
homecoming parade. A non–Communitarianism could have reported how the rain ruined the parade
and many townspeople were outraged by the cities/schools decision to cancel the parade.
Libertarianism– Libertarianism has emphasis on the individual. In public relations, by having a

Biographies And Biographies Of Books Essay
The term "nonfiction" is a very broad classifier of literature. Alongside fiction, the two genres
account for all the literature in existence. A quick internet search will present a number of genres
that are considered nonfiction. From historical eyewitness accounts, to creative nonfiction, to
biographies, there are many genres that people generally accept as factual. Memoirs and biographies
are usually counted on the more reliable side. Thus, there exist a number of sub–genre that fall under
the title of "nonfiction". However, take a look past the surface, a number of problems with this
stance arise. In all truth, the brains of human beings are the only source behind the facts of
biographies and memoirs. As it turns out, this is the source is far from credible. Memoirs and
biographies are not reliable sources of nonfiction due to the differences between brains, bias which
affects the brain, and the faulty nature of brain functions. Every person has a distinct, separate brain,
despite how similar people may feel to the others around them. Calahan had violent behaviors and

Police Officer Research Paper
Police Officers have to leave their houses everyday not knowing what they may face in a day's
work. Police Officers have to deal with dangerous situations, and must be properly trained to deal
with these. Police Officers face many dangers on a daily basis, like foot pursuits, vehicle pursuits,
traffic control, heat strokes, stress, and making an arrest. Police have to train and learn how to face
these dangers, so they can come home safety to their families at the end of their shift.
To become a police officer you must undergo lots of physical and mental training to make sure you
stay safe while keeping others safe to. First, before even being able to go to the police academy you
must undergo the application process. The application process is long, that is only to make sure you
are quantified for the job. First, you must fill out the application, must be 18 years or older, then you
have to send in a control sheet, copy of driver's license, copy of social security card, copy of birth

Amanda Clark Research Paper
"Amanda Clark's phone conversation came to an abrupt end when her Chevrolet Trailblazer rolled
three times before landing on its roof. She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by another driver.
Metal caved in around her, but the roof stayed intact and she survived with just scrapes and bruises"
(Tracy). Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn't as
lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away and focus
on driving. Clark's Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, "I thought this would be a wakeup call for her, and
it was for a short time she wouldn't talk on the phone, she was more cautious. But she got more
confident in her driving and a sense of 'Hey, I survived one, I'm invincible, nothing is going to
happen to me now'" (Tracy). A year after her accident, Clark was driving on a highway. She ... Show

I didn't even realize what I was doing, until one day Stephanie called me out on it" (Henry). The
effects of distracted driving accidents are not always physical. The emotional upset a driver feels
after a car accident can affect them for months or even years after the accident, regardless if the
accident was their fault or not. Although distracted driving is a problem for all drivers, it specifically
is a major problem for teenagers. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for American
teens. When it comes to distracted driving, young people are the most likely to text and talk behind
the wheel ("Distracted Driving Facts"). In Idaho between the years of 2010 and 2014, the age group
15–19 experienced the most crashes, with the age group 20–24 coming second. Teenagers also
contributed to 10% of fatal car crashes and a little over 15% of serious injury car crashes

Raising the Legal Driving Age
For many teenagers obtaining their driver's license is the first initial step of becoming an adult.
Many political and public figures question the ability to drive legally at age 16; in some states even
younger. There are many reasons why many individuals question the legal driving age such as how
will impact society? If the legal driving age in the United States is raised to 18 will there be a
decrease of accidents? In the United States most states allow teenagers to have a learner's permit and
a driver's license at age 16. Rising the legal driving age would cut down on car accidents and
associated damages, cut down on teen deaths from traffic accidents and allow for teens to gain more
experience before driving on their own.

That $34 billion is money that could be saved or put to better use, especially in the present economy.
According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) car accidents are the number one cause of death
for teens (CDC, 2010), which just by itself certainly does give merit to raising the legal driving age.
In most states the age to get a driver's license is 16 but in some states the age is lower, including
South Dakota where learner's permits are given at age 14. Statistics from the Insurance Institute for
Highway Safety (IIHS) show that highest crash rate per age is for 16 year olds and crash rates for
drivers 16–19 years old are four times higher than older drivers (IIHS, 2010). The study from the
IIHS shows that the numbers of teen deaths from driving have dropped significantly in the last few
years, and it is no coincidence that these numbers have fallen as more states have begun to
implement GDL restrictions.
Reducing the numbers of teen drivers would in turn decrease the number of teen drivers killed. The
number one cause of death for teens, according to the CDC, is car accidents. One third of all teen
deaths in the country are caused by vehicle crashes (CDC, 2010). New Jersey is currently the state
with the highest legal driving age and one of seven that removes all restrictions at 18, and is shown
through different studies to have the lowest number of teen driving deaths compared to other states
(CBS/AP, 2008). New Jersey comes

Use of Cellular Phones While Driving
Cellular phone is a wireless and hand–held device that is well known to the public. It is very

estimates that there will be over 200 million cellular phone subscribers in world wide by the year of

Marlborough Township, New Jersey, also enacted a similar ban during the summer of 2000,
according to ZDNet News, an Internet news provider. Other small cities have attempted to enact
similar bans, while big the city of Chicago is considering a $25 to $100 fine if a cell phone is found
to have contributed to an accident.
Besides the places that are mentioned above, cellular phones have been banned in New York State as
the vehicle is in motion. According to some web site information in the internet, the Governor of
New York has signed a bill which becomes law on November 1st, 2001, that will outlaw the use of a
hand–held cellular phone, only hands–free will be allowed (except for emergencies). There will be a
one month grace period where the police will just issue warnings. If someone does get cited, and
produces a receipt that they have bought a hands–free kit for the car, the case will be dismissible

The speaker is Queen Elizabeth, the audience is anyone watching the televised speech, and the
subject is the remembrance of Diana. The intent of the Queens' speech is to pay tribute to late Diana
and also thank everyone for the flowers, messages, and respects paid to Diana. I believe that the
speech was rhetorically effective because of the emotion that the speaker conveys. Logos is
established because we know that the speaker is the Queen of England. However, pathos is the most
common in this speech. The Queen is distressed about the death of a family member, and it shows in
her speech. The speech is written in a sweet style. Examples of this are "So what I say to you now,
as your queen and as a grandmother, I say from my heart.", and, "I share in your determination to
cherish her memory." Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, gave a eulogy for her on September 6, 1997. In
the eulogy he speaks of how much Diana meant to the people of not only England, but also the
people of the world. Within the speech, the Earl becomes passionate about his sister and the things
that she did during her life. One example that he gave was that on her birthday, she did not celebrate
the day but instead was the guest of honor at a charity fundraising event. The speaker is Earl

Sina Weibos reported the train accident more quickly and detailed than the description from the

accident happened that slowed down traffic for a little bit. They finally got to the restaurant to eat at

his driveway he looks at the clock and sees that it is 12:30 am. He knew he was late; his parent is
going to kill him for being this late. When walking into the door he closes it back quietly and starts
to walk up the stairs but then the kitchen lights turn on. Jimmy looks over and sees his mom and dad

head. As soon as his father asks why he was so late Jimmy starts to tell the story. "It was so crazy.
When I was on my way back there was a horrible accident. It happened right in front of me. Both
cars were totaled there was nothing left of them really. No one was badly injured but we had to wait
for them to get out of the car to start the flow of traffic. I was sitting there for almost an hour. I was
so traumatized by seeing the accident that on the way back I drove the car so slow and carefully as I

What is a Reading Response Essay?
A Reading Response essay: * Summarizes what you read. * Gives your reaction to the text.
Your reaction will be one or more of the following: * Agreement/disagreement with the ideas in the

Or you could open with a dilemma or problem and then close with the solution. A different version
of that is to re–tell the same story in the conclusion with a different (usually better) ending.
Examples: * On an essay about cell phone use in cars, you could open with a scenario showing a
person getting a call while driving and thinking about what to do. In the conclusion, you could have
the end of the scenario–maybe the driver pulls over to take the call, or decides to let voicemail take
it. * On an essay about dealing with a family member with Alzheimer's, you could open with a
conversation between family members trying to figure out what to do. You can conclude with a
conversation between the same people after they have decided to place that person in a nursing
home. * On an essay about oil drilling in the Gulf, you could open by describing vividly the oil–
soaked coastline and the dying wildlife. You could conclude with what that coastline looks like now.
* On any topic which you have personal experience, you can open with part of your story, and then
conclude with the ending of your story.

Stephen King 's Personal Experience
Stephen King is a very successful author in which that success is based on fictional stories inspired
by personal experience. In every one of the novels/novellas that we have read in this course thus far,
we can find that usually more than one of his personal experiences lies within each piece of work.
Many of Kings more minor connection to his own personal life are a big reason that, as a reader, you
immediately jump to the conclusion that his stories are semi–autobiographical. What I mean by this
is the way he sets a story up, the main character is usually a writer, attending UMaine, and/or
residing in Maine, all attributes of King. As King progresses the story he tends to base the overall
major theme on a larger aspect of his life such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much of King's childhood experience bleeds over into the settings for both Hearts and The Body.
King was born in 1947 and was about twelve years old in 1960, the year the story for The Body
takes place. Twelve–year–old Gordie (who also becomes a writer) lives in Gates Falls, one of King's
fictional towns, along with Derry and Chamberlain, a textile mill town along the Castle River (likely
created with the Androscoggin in mind, which flows through Durham and Lisbon Falls, where King
lived and went to school). Further, Gordie informs the reader, while discussing the train trestle
spanning the river, that the river frequently floods and covers Route 136 in either Harlow or Danvers
Junction or both (The Body, 354). Route 136 does run along the Androscoggin south of Lewiston to
Durham. Finally, Runaround Pond in West Durham is likely the inspiration for the leech incident
(The Body, 396). It sits directly in–between Durham and Pownal, which are the site of the search for
Ray Brower (the boy from Chamberlain hit by the train), along with the fictional Motton. The
authorities drag the Motton Reservoir to search for the body (The Body, 300). The rural Maine
settings used in King's novels help him create an atmosphere to take the reader back in time to the
1960s. One of the points he drives home is that things were simpler then. The four boys bond on
their adventure to find the dead body and form friendships that Gordie relishes. They discuss their

Although the act is clear on how data can or cannot be used, consent does not have to be given
before passing on information if there are concerns that a child may be been abused. However,
confidentiality must still be observed and information must only be passed to those who need to
know, such as the professional with child protection responsibility in the setting and in social
services. A lot of the personal and sensitive information kept about children needs to be easily
accessible as it is in constant use. For example, care plans need to be referred to frequently. Even so,
this information must be kept secure and never left around the setting for others to read. If
information is left around this will break down the trust between parent and setting, making parents
less willing to share information, this could put children at risk. The principles in the 1998 act do not
state how data is to be kept, just it must be safe and secure. The setting's policies and procedures set
out how this will be done. Written records must be kept in locked, hard–to–access cabinets. Today a

Writing : The Development Of Writing
The development of writing begins as early as we learn how to write letters in preschool or
kindergarten. Writing grows as we learn to read and write throughout our school days and beyond.
Everyone has a unique story of his or her writing experiences; some have horrible experience, while
others may have mentors that inspired them. One's history, experiences, issues and the process of
writing, all plays into how I, myself progress in writing. Many years have passed sense learning to
write, that there is little that I recall. There was really no such thing as preschool when I was young.
But, like most small children, learning to hold a pencil and writing on wide, very wide line paper by
following the dotted line to form letters is how I learn to write letters. While preschool was foggy,
third grade contains a small memory of writing. I went to three school that year but the second
school our teacher had us write and draw a picture story, mine was about a car accident. It seemed
like a weird thing to write about but looking back it must have been a lesson on safety. I may have
remember this because I actually still have it. Subsequently, in middle school and high school years
I recall writing a lot more. Writing many reports or essay on factual subjects: the first president, on
elephants, and "Kill of The Mocking Bird" were a few that I remember. Even though in eleven grade
I took a speech class, the subject matters are not in focus. Most likely block it out

Problem Analysis : Distracted Driving
Maud Simms COMM–275–910 Part 1 of Final Paper Problem & Audience Analysis Problem
Analysis Distracted driving, the act of driving while engaged in other activities, has long been a
dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. While there's a wide range of activities that distract
American drivers, texting while driving has become increasingly prevalent, as the popularity of
mobile devices has risen since the 1990s (Noder, 2009). In American culture, which has become
ever more dependent on cellphones, many experience the desire to always be accessible – even
while on the go (Noder, 2009). This desire, motivated by both social and business objectives, leads
many to use their phones behind the wheel. Eighty–five percent of Americans, a number ... Show

This dangerous conduct is observed amongst younger drivers as well. In a 2009 survey of 16 to 17
year olds, 26% confessed that they have texted while driving (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). The
number of Americans who report being in a vehicle while a driver was texting, however, is even
higher (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). Half of all American adults and teens aged 12–17 recall having
been in a car in which the driver was texting (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). Just under half of all
American adults (44%) and teens (40%) say that they have been a passenger in a car where the
driver used a phone in a way that put themselves, or others, at risk (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). This
shows that the effects of texting and driving span further than individual drivers and surrounding
traffic, impacting the lives of many American passengers. Although cellphone use can provide
drivers with various benefits, such as optimized commute time, navigation, and entertainment, the
risks far outweigh any perceived advantages. Acts of multitasking, such as texting while driving,
divides a person's attention (Konig et al., 2005). This places substantial demand on a person's
restricted cognitive resources (Konig et al., 2005). For example, 14% of all American adults say
they've physically bumped into another person or an object because talking or texting on their phone
distracted them (Madden & Rainie, 2010). This shows that being engrossed by ones cellphone can
affect even automatic processes like walking. As

The Detriments Of Cellular Phone Use
The detriments of cellular phone use In today's society, people rely heavily on the use of cellular
phones. There are a number of advantages and disadvantages of a cellular phone. Some advantages
of cellular phones use are cellular phone use is a great form of communication. A cellular phone is a
way to track and keep in touch with others. Being able to keep in touch can be very beneficial. I am
a student living away from home and for my mother, and for me, having a cellular phone allows my
mother talk with me from afar and secretly, it helps her to know if I am safe. For me, being able to
use my cellular phone lets me talk to my mother when I need advice or assistance or simply say
hello. Cellular phones are good tools. Many cellular phones are equipped with the internet, which
provides you with information. Cellular phones gives you access to different applications (apps) that
perform a group of coordinated functions, tasks, or activities that are very useful for cellular phone
user. I currently use multiple applications that are very useful, for instance, the 'esure' application is
an application that disables me from texting or talking on my cellular phone while driving. Then
there is an application I use to help me eat healthy by counting by carbohydrate intact. These are just
some advantages of cellular phone use. Then there are disadvantages of cellular phone use. As a

Supervision is the activity carried out by supervisors to oversee the productivity and progress of
employees who report directly to the supervisors. Supervision is a management activity and
supervisors typically are considered to have a management role in the organization. The act of

Authority
Authority is the power an organization gives to a supervisor to do something or to get something
done. There are two types of authority: formal and informal. Formal authority comes with the
position a person holds in the organization. Informal authority, also referred to as personal authority,
is the power you have because of your abilities and personal traits. In my opinion, authority is
means want to control something in your hand. Formal authority means use law or rules to control
the store or public place. Informal authority means you want to control something by yourself,

Analysis Of ' The Engineer 's Lament '
This paper is going to discuss the similarities and differences between two books and an article that
all focus on the cost–benefit analysis and risk. Daniel Gardener, the author of The Science of Fear,
and Cass R. Sunstein, the author of Risk and Reason, shared many view points and their books
overlap in many ways. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of "The Engineer 's Lament," focused on
similar ideas as the other two authors, but had a different interpretation and way of presenting them.
Risk is often evaluated based on a cost–benefit analysis, which is the underlying theme of the three
pieces of writing. Sunstein defines it as "a means of overcoming predictable problems in individual
and social cognition" (30). He believes that people interpret risk the wrong way; they assume that if
something is high–risk it is low benefit and vise versa, but in reality high–risk usually means high–
benefit. Cost–benefit analysis is meant to clear up the confusion and shine light on the small benefits
that average individuals might not see. Gardner provided a very similar definition on cost–benefit
analysis without actually stating its specific name. He stated that the way people decide which risk
is worth preventing and which one is not is by considering "the probability of the event, its
consequences, and the cost" all put together (Gardner, 2008: 62). If the cost of the risk outweighs its
benefits, the money and efforts set aside for preventing it is better off directed somewhere else.

ETHICAL ISSUES IN ENGINEERING DESIGN
– A CASE STUDY –
"DutchEVO"
ABSTRACT
Engineering main task is to perform and invent. Present Engineering, as a driving means of
technology has reached heights in ethical issues. This discusses the impact of Engineering Ethics in
design technology. It focusses on ethical issues that has a direct impact on the design of product and
how it is being used in day to day life. This generally discusses ethical problems in safety and
sustainability with developments in technologies.
INTRODUCTION
Rapid progress has been made in engineering domain over the last 10 years, with a great importance
on ethical and social responsibilities. Engineering is not just about applying scientific theories or
finding solutions. It also has to do with improving the social life, society overall by getting
engineers into mainstream industry for business. Every engineers gets involved with circumstances
that require the understanding of the ethical facts and rules. Engineering has a great dependencies on
society. As a result of new technologies, new products and new risks developments. Many a
decisions during this phase affects the risk and developments of products which are ethically
relevant. We call a problem an ethical or moral when moral values are at stake. There are different
source of moral values. Rights, utility, allegiances. The term ethical issue indicates an engineer's

Teens And Driving : Teen Driving
Aria Homayounnejad
Claire Barth
English 1101
27 November 2014
Teens and Driving Teen drunk driving is all about actions and reactions, unfortunately for those
teens that choose to follow in this path of drinking and driving, most of them do not have the real
life experiences that are required to make a rational, educated, and safe decision. The social
pressures to conform to the "normal" behavior, the bad examples, and the lack of strong parental
figures can lead the best of teens down the wrong path. Hopefully, while most will learn, drunk teen
drivers are a huge risk to everyone, with the potential to end not only their life, but the lives of the
innocent drivers on the road, who for the most part are only thinking of going from point A, to point
B, to hopefully make it home to their loved ones. Let's take a look at the reasons these changes
should be made, as they are very eye opening and show some very disturbing statistics involving
teen driving. Teenage driving has cost more than 81,000 people lives since the year 2000 as a result
of motor vehicle accidents. Teen drivers are not always attentive and responsible; friends, music,
and cell phone can easily distract the drivers. Although not all accidents can be prevented, if there is
a possibility that rising the legal driving age to 18 can potentially decrease the number of individuals
killed in motor vehicle accidents than it can only have a positive outcome. There are many
individuals that have received their

Claims Adjuster Case Study
After a car accident, the insurance company will want to know the details of the accident. A claims
adjuster will contact you to take a statement. This usually happens a few days after the accident,
which is often a terrible time to make any statements especially if you've been injured and are taking
pain medicine. While giving a statement might speed up the claim process, it might result in a
problem with the claim if you're not careful.
Why Does the Insurance Company Want a Recorded Statement?
When an adjuster calls to get a recorded statement, they'll want to hear your version of events. At
this point, the adjuster will only have the version of the person they insure. He or she will use your
statement, police reports, the statement of the insured as well as witness reports to build a better
picture of what happened in the accident. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether rude or friendly, if the claims adjuster can get you to contradict a statement you've made
previously, they can claim that you're lying. Any statements you make verbally or in writing become
a part of the file.
Reasons You Shouldn't Give One
If you've filed a lawsuit against the adjuster's insured driver, you'll want to be especially careful
about recorded statements. The adjuster is looking for a way to lessen the impact of your suit against
the insurance company. They're skilled at asking questions to ellicit contradictory statements. While
you might see an innocent question when they ask what you were doing that day, they are trying to
find fault. If you were coming from a bad day at work, they might try to say that you were
distracted.
Many lawyers would advise you to give a written statement regarding the events. You'll be able to
prepare this ahead of time and consider your words carefully.

Elderly Drivers Research Paper
Elderly drivers and young drivers are just as dangerous as each other are, they both have a habit to
ignore or even forget road rules and take other risks behind the wheel of a car. I always hear people

My Nan is one of the 419,615 drivers in Victoria who are over 70. According to VicRoads, there are
58 people licensed in Victoria who are aged over 100 who drive and more than 13,000 in their 90s.

In Victoria VicRoads allows drives 75 years or older to continue driving, but if they develop a long
term or permanent physical or mental condition, which may affect their ability to drive they are to
immediately notify VicRoads. This will then be noted on their licence. In New South Wales when a
driver turns 75 years a medical review is to be undertaken every two years, no matter what type of
licence they hold. Once they turn 85 years a hands–on driving assessment is to be undertaken every
two years and is be passed to retain their licence. Once a driver reaches the age of 80 in Western
Australia, they are required to undertake a medical assessment once a year and complete a senior
driver's licence renewal declaration to enable them to have their driver's licence renewed. Drivers in
Tasmania are no longer required to undertake a medical assessment but are encouraged to have their
driving ability assessed once they are 75 years or older. Drivers 75 years and older in the ACT are to
provide a yearly medical certificate that states they are still fit to drive. In Queensland once a driver
reaches the age of 75 years they are to provide a medical certificate for motor vehicle driver and
they are required to have it with them at all times while driving. A new certificate is to be obtained
once every year. In South Australia, a yearly self–assessment is to be obtained if the driver does not
have a medical condition once they reach 75 years. This assessment needs to be undertaken by a
doctor. If the assessment is not obtained then their drivers licence will not be valid. In Northern
Territory, there are no age restrictions on drivers, but they are required to advise of any medical
conditions, which will affect their driving

My First Year Placement, A Program That Offers Young...
During my first year placement, I was placed at Compton YouthBuild (CYB). CYB is a program
that offers young people educational and vocational opportunities. The program is open to any youth
between the ages of 16–24, who are seeking a new opportunity to strive in life. CYB provides youth
with opportunities in community advocacy, leadership development, career pathways, and
construction training. One of the major services that CYB offers is the opportunity to receive an
academic education and receive a high school diploma. CYB collaborates with YouthBuild Charter
School of California (YCSC) and together they incorporate an educational component to the CYB
program. Directors at CYB do not refer to their program as a school, but as what it really is, which
is a youth build program. Program directors are very rigid on the fact that staff or members refer to
the program as a school, the reason being because it affects the type of funding that they receive.
This influences the way that we refer to the people that are served at CYB. The staff is to refer to the
served individuals as young people or members, not as students. Most of the young people that
enroll in the program do so for the educational program. Many of our young people turn to CYB for
a second opportunity at their academic careers. The city of Compton can be well known for their
street violence and their gang activity. High rates of young people in the area get involved in such
activity at a very young age,

Big Brother Is Watching You Essay
"Big Brother is Watching You," is the famous quote from George Orwell's 1984, where the
government regulates everything and the Thought Police could be reading the minds of the citizens
at any moment. Many people fear big government; the world has experienced the destruction of
fascists, dictators, Marxist socialism, as well as other dangerous political ideologies. More recently,
people have been worried about the demagogue that has become our next president and AT&T
selling information to law enforcement. It is contended that any problems brought on by a large
government are internal problems of self–regulation; for example; the revolving door between
special interests and politicians, as well as the problem of career–politicians. Despite the problems
that come with a big government, namely higher taxes, it is far superior to a smaller federal
government, and far better than a nonexistent federal government, where the states decide laws
individually. There are many different political ideologies that purport to be the best, but in the end a
healthy mix of different governing styles has been proven to best suite the masses. it is true that big
government can be done wrong – North Korea is the most prominent modern example, but in
countries like Denmark (known as the happiest country in the world), Finland, and Switzerland,
large government, in the form of socialism, works out very well. Ultimately, there are many benefits
to large governments such as responding to issues on

The neuroanatomical approach to aphasia relies on the...
The neuroanatomical approach to aphasia relies on the localization of lesions on the brain in
addition to clinical observation in order to classify patients according to syndromes. For example,
according to the neuroanatomical approach, Broca's aphasia, which us usually associated with a
lesions on the posterior inferior frontal gyrus of the brain, has cardinal features that distinguish is
from other fluent and non–fluent aphasias (e.g. poor repetition, poor repetition and poor naming
with good auditory comprehension). Within this model, the general assessment process of an
aphasic person consists of: (1) Gathering the client's case history (e.g. a car accident that results in

Further, different researchers and clinicians may classify patients differently as there as not clear–cut
boundaries which separate classifications. In addition, patients have good and bad days, such that a
patient's performance on a particular day may be a cause for misclassification of aphasia.
Furthermore, a patient can evolve from one classification to another during the course of recovery
(e.g. from Broca's Aphasia to Anomic Aphasia). Also, there are varying degrees within a particular
classification. For example, Patrick had mild Broca's aphasia, while some patients who have Broca's
aphasia can barely speak at all (i.e. severe Broca's aphasia). Nevertheless, the classification system
according to syndromes is useful when describing groups of people, rather than individuals, for
example in research. However, it can also be valuable in clinical practice because it is an efficient
way of best describing a person's aphasia profile. For example, in a clinical setting it may be useful
to use a classification (e.g. Wernicke's aphasia), when talking to the client or the client's family. This
is because it can give them a reasonable sense of what is happening to them without overwhelming
them (although in most cases, it is still overwhelming), and because in many cases people and their
families prefer to have an answer rather than not knowing what has happened. Additionally, it is
possible that a person may fall into a particular

Distracted Driving and Cell Phones
Today, one of the major sources of automobile accidents is distracted driving due to cell phone use.
Driver distraction can be defined as "the diversion of attention away from activities critical for the
safe driving toward a competing activity" (Young 3). The dangers of driving while using a cell
phone cannot be overstated, but drivers still use their cell phones even though they are illegal.
According to a survey, "About 2 out of 10 (18%) report that they have sent text messages or emails
while driving; about half (49%) of those 21 to 24 year olds report doing so" (NHTSA). This
indicates that millions of people use their cell phones while driving everyday, and with the increased
availability and affordability of cell phones, the risk can only increase. In this paper the topics that
will be discussed in regard to cell phone use while driving include the brief history of the cell phone,
talking while driving, texting while driving, the part of the community most affected by using cell
phones, alternatives to reduce incidents, the laws that have been enacted, and the organizations that
endorse no texting while driving. In a time when rapid access to information is valuable, cell phones
have bridged the gap between the information and the user. The cell phone came into existence
when Martin Cooper, at Motorola, developed the first portable handheld radio for the Chicago
police department. The first cell phone, Motorola DynaTac, was over 2.5 pounds and could be only

Personal Narrative: Living With Aubrie
On December 1st, 2015 I dug over twenty–five holes in dense limestone on the side of a steep hill in
west Austin. It was a bit of a heavier day at the landscape company I was working for at the time,
but with a hard–working crew equipped with a jackhammer and numerous rock bars, we faired
pretty well. When I left the site I went home to find my now former partner Aubrie, and her five–
year–old daughter Ari relaxing after a day of work and school. I decided to take our dog Theo to a
cafe I frequented to get some time alone to do my budgeting for the month. There was a lot
happening in December: Ari's sixth birthday, an important work–event for Aubrie, and of course our

Thesis Statement
The increasing use of computer technology in transportation will provide us with much greater
levels of safety and reliability––saving potentially millions of lives, and make personal travel and
organizational shipping more cost effective. The fear of placing our faith in the "hands" of
automated transportation is unfounded. It demonstrates an irrational fear of losing control to
technology. Automated systems are statistically more stable and can be regulated to higher safety
standards than can manual human operations. Given time and further development, autonomous
transportation will become increasingly more common and prevent accidents caused by human
error. This paper will show that self–driving vehicles are inevitably our future.

The page offers different moral/ ethical scenarios giving the user a chance to see what their choices
would be.
Fear of Technology
One major barrier in the implementation of intelligent transportation is that there is a common fear
of technology. In one study, only 37% of women and 50% of men say that they would feel safe in a
self–driving car. On top of this 46% of those surveyed believe that a driverless car is unsafe
(LeBeau). It seems that the technology is advancing more quickly than consumer comfort levels.
This is common with many new technologies and yet, with time can be overcome.
The ultimate solution to the concern about autonomous transport technologies will be education.
Instead of viewing the AI as an "ambiguous, malicious, unknowable entity" (A. Walker), one must
become familiar with the tech in question. Taking a simple computer class may help. Certainly,
talking to a self–driving car dealer or user will alleviate some of the stress involved in the change.

Essay on Disorders Assignment
Disorders Assignment
Last Name: Robles, Princess
Read each case below and determine what psychological disorder each patient might have. In your
own words, state your reasons why. Type your answer directly below each case.
A. Case: James had a very difficult time in Kindergarten. He could not perform simple functions
such as cutting, drawing, and writing. His teacher said that he had trouble staying in his seat and
paying attention. Instead, he often spent his 4 hours a day in class laying on the floor under the table
or wandering aimlessly through the classroom touching everything. James was unable to stay on
task no matter what he chose to do.

I believe Isabel has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) because of her uncontrollable
obsessions with certain thoughts that results in compulsions which is an impulsive behavior that are
performed repeatedly. As stated "she packs and repacks her books."
According to psych central website's article, OCD is an anxiety disorder characterized by recurrent
and disturbing thoughts (called obsessions) and/or repetitive, ritualized behaviors that the person
feels driven to perform (called compulsions).
C. Case: Carla was the driver of a car that was involved in an accident. Her friend, who was in the
car with her at the time, was killed. After that, Carla became very preoccupied with her health and
thoughts of death. She reports that her health anxieties came in waves and describes one of the worst
episodes. Shortly after college, Carla became convinced she had lupus and the idea totally consumed
her. She says that all she could think about was dying, lupus, and being sick for the rest of her life.
Though her doctors and friends and family tried to reassure her, Carla's thoughts persisted.
I believe that Carla has a Hypochondria because she honestly believes that she has lupus. Although
her doctors and family and friends reassured her that she does not have lupus, she is obsessed
worrying about her idea of life–threatening disease and that she will be dying soon.
According to Family Doctor website's article Hypochondriasis is one the somatoform disorders.

Violence in the Media Essay
Violence in the Media
What makes the Roadrunner and Coyote cartoons so funny and memorable? Of course, the
explosions, hits and falls the Coyote takes while in pursuit of the Roadrunner. Pediatrics, a
pediatrician read magazine, wrote an article on the influence violence, such as that in cartoons and
other forms of media, has on children from ages 2–18 titled "Media Violence." "Although recent
school shootings have prompted politicians and the general public to focus their attention on the
influence of media violence, the medical community has been concerned with this issue since the
1950s," says American Academy of Pediatrics, the author of the article in November of 2001. The
article calls for a need for all pediatricians to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite these publications, the author has no proof of how these statistics are true and fails to go
into any detail of why they may be true. Through the entire argument, the author puts out many
statistics from random publications, but gives no reason as to why they may be true. Common math
shows 6 hours and 32 minutes of exposure to media everyday, for example, would mean that if a
child wakes up at 7 in the morning, goes to school at 8, and gets home at 3:30, the child must then
consistently use those forms of media nonstop until he or she goes to bed at 10 which leaves no
room for studying, playing with friends, or even eating dinner.
The author, or authors are members of the American Academy of Pediatrics, who publish the
magazine. No single name is associated with writing this article; rather, it states the names of
everyone on the Committee on Public Education. Everyone on the committee is a certified Medical
Doctor, and each is probably a pediatrician, but none of the statistics are backed with any sort of
proof from them, only the publications to which they were taken out of. Some of the publications
which the statistics are taken out of come from Universities though, which make them more
believable than the ones with random authors. The authors seem to have carefully chosen their
statistics and haven't needed to say much to show what point they are trying to make.

Finally, the data do not indicate that the drivers were at fault in the collisions; it may be that cellular telephones merely decrease a driver's ability to avoid a collision caused by someone else. (457) Pointing out that cell phones have benefits as well as risks, the authors do not recommend restrictions on their use while driving. Unfortunately, most states do not keep adequate records on the number of times phones are a factor in accidents. As of December 2000, only ten states were trying to keep such records (Sundeen 2). In addition, currently there is little scientific evidence comparing the use of cell phones with other driver Source: Diana Hacker (Boston: Bedford/St. Martin's, 2006). Alasdair Cain and Mark Burris of the Center for Urban Transportation Research surveyed research on the cell phone issue as of 1999 and concluded that there is "no nationally– accredited document to prove the connection between mobile phone use and traffic accidents." Because research results have been so inconclusive, it makes sense to wait before passing laws that might well be unnecessary. Weighing risks and benefits In 2000, researchers at the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis found that the risks of driving while phoning were small compared with other driving risks. It can happen anywhere, anytime, and anyplace. It can happen to anyone, young old, black and white. It can be an accident, it can be on purpose. Gun deaths happen everywhere, even right here in Iowa. In the editorial featured in the Iowa City Press– Citizen, "Students, Families Deserve Common–Sense Gun Safety Laws," the author uses logos, pathos, and ethos to convince legislators to pass common sense gun laws. • 9. Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Valid Argument? You Must Be High It seems as though everyone has their own opinion when it comes to the legalization of marijuana. The question spans all age groups, races, and religions. You will hear different answers from individuals under each group. Some view the use of the substance as a sin and believe that the use should be a crime and others view it as a freedom that each citizen should be granted. Marty Nemko, a Ph.D. holding, education evaluation specialist, says otherwise. In his article published by TIME magazine, Nemko goes into details as to why he believes legalizing marijuana will have far more consequences than it does reward. His points seem as though they would be valid, however his argument is stretched and very weak. Nemko uses irrational logic, slanted, biased data, and opinion based assumptions to attempt to persuade readers to join his cause. At first glance, Nemko's article seems as though it is full of logical reasons as to why marijuana should stay illegalized in the United States. The problem lies in his arguments. One of Nemko's main points of emphasis is what the drug would do to children. If his argument was against the legalization of marijuana for all ages, this would have sound reasoning. However, Nemko is not arguing this proposal. The argument in discussion is to legalize marijuana for adults, and Nemko argues for a large portion of his paper about a group of people who will not be affected by the law. Nemko makes the assumption that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Importance Of Propaganda In Journalism Propaganda– Propaganda regards truth and reality. It is deceptive, purposely less than honest, biased, devoid of a sense of fairness. It attempts to manipulate someone's ideas, actions and attitudes. Propaganda can be used in journalism by manipulating the story to be exaggerated or simply false. A journalist or public relations specialist could use a false or photo shopped image in a newspaper/webpage to sway their audience into thinking the subject of their story is true and not to their audiences knowledge it has been manipulated. Semantics– Semantics studies how words came to be and what they mean. In a journalistic setting when covering a story, be sure of what you are actually portraying and what you're trying to say. There are clear distinctions between what reporting, inferences, and judgements are. Communitarianism– Communitarianism has emphasis on society and the larger majority of a group. In journalism or public relations and individual would look at what brings people together. For example (fiction), covering a story about how MSU's Homecoming parade brought helping hands together as participants prepared to rain–proof their floats last–minute, which made for a successful homecoming parade. A non–Communitarianism could have reported how the rain ruined the parade and many townspeople were outraged by the cities/schools decision to cancel the parade. Libertarianism– Libertarianism has emphasis on the individual. In public relations, by having a libertarian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Biographies And Biographies Of Books Essay The term "nonfiction" is a very broad classifier of literature. Alongside fiction, the two genres account for all the literature in existence. A quick internet search will present a number of genres that are considered nonfiction. From historical eyewitness accounts, to creative nonfiction, to biographies, there are many genres that people generally accept as factual. Memoirs and biographies are usually counted on the more reliable side. Thus, there exist a number of sub–genre that fall under the title of "nonfiction". However, take a look past the surface, a number of problems with this stance arise. In all truth, the brains of human beings are the only source behind the facts of biographies and memoirs. As it turns out, this is the source is far from credible. Memoirs and biographies are not reliable sources of nonfiction due to the differences between brains, bias which affects the brain, and the faulty nature of brain functions. Every person has a distinct, separate brain, despite how similar people may feel to the others around them. She had run a stop sign and was broadsided by another driver. Metal caved in around her, but the roof stayed intact and she survived with just scrapes and bruises" (Tracy). Amanda Clark survived her first car accident caused by distracted driving, but wasn't as lucky the second time. After she started driving again, she pledged to put her phone away and focus on driving. Clark's Mother, Bonnye Spray, said, "I thought this would be a wakeup call for her, and it was for a short time she wouldn't talk on the phone, she was more cautious. But she got more confident in her driving and a sense of 'Hey, I survived one, I'm invincible, nothing is going to happen to me now'" (Tracy). The emotional upset a driver feels after a car accident can affect them for months or even years after the accident, regardless if the accident was their fault or not. Although distracted driving is a problem for all drivers, it specifically is a major problem for teenagers. Traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for American teens. When it comes to distracted driving, young people are the most likely to text and talk behind the wheel ("Distracted Driving Facts"). In Idaho between the years of 2010 and 2014, the age group 15–19 experienced the most crashes, with the age group 20–24 coming second. Many political and public figures question the ability to drive legally at age 16; in some states even younger. There are many reasons why many individuals question the legal driving age such as how will impact society? If the legal driving age in the United States is raised to 18 will there be a decrease of accidents? In the United States most states allow teenagers to have a learner's permit and a driver's license at age 16. Rising the legal driving age would cut down on car accidents and associated damages, cut down on teen deaths from traffic accidents and allow for teens to gain more experience before driving on their own. Let's take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That $34 billion is money that could be saved or put to better use, especially in the present economy. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) car accidents are the number one cause of death for teens (CDC, 2010), which just by itself certainly does give merit to raising the legal driving age. In most states the age to get a driver's license is 16 but in some states the age is lower, including South Dakota where learner's permits are given at age 14. Statistics from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) show that highest crash rate per age is for 16 year olds and crash rates for drivers 16–19 years old are four times higher than older drivers (IIHS, 2010). The study from the IIHS shows that the numbers of teen deaths from driving have dropped significantly in the last few years, and it is no coincidence that these numbers have fallen as more states have begun to implement GDL restrictions. Reducing the numbers of teen drivers would in turn decrease the number of teen drivers killed. The number one cause of death for teens, according to the CDC, is car accidents. One third of all teen deaths in the country are caused by vehicle crashes (CDC, 2010). New Jersey is currently the state with the highest legal driving age and one of seven that removes all restrictions at 18, and is shown through different studies to have the lowest number of teen driving deaths compared to other states (CBS/AP, 2008). Princess Diana Rhetorical Analysis or Reports Essay Zoe' Strawn Mrs. Leopard AP Lang and Comp Rhetorical Analysis of Four Articles Upon Princess Diana's Death Princess Diana of Wales was killed in a car accident in Paris, France in 1997. She was divorced from England's Prince Charles and a mother to Princes William and Harry. In her life, she was known for her philanthropy and her marriage with the Prince. The accident was known around the world and many newspapers and news programs wrote articles about the late Princess's death. The speaker is Queen Elizabeth, the audience is anyone watching the televised speech, and the subject is the remembrance of Diana. The intent of the Queens' speech is to pay tribute to late Diana and also thank everyone for the flowers, messages, and respects paid to Diana. I believe that the speech was rhetorically effective because of the emotion that the speaker conveys. Logos is established because we know that the speaker is the Queen of England. However, pathos is the most common in this speech. The Queen is distressed about the death of a family member, and it shows in her speech. The speech is written in a sweet style. Examples of this are "So what I say to you now, as your queen and as a grandmother, I say from my heart.", and, "I share in your determination to cherish her memory." Diana's brother, Earl Spencer, gave a eulogy for her on September 6, 1997. In the eulogy he speaks of how much Diana meant to the people of not only England, but also the people of the world. Within the speech, the Earl becomes passionate about his sister and the things that she did during her life. One example that he gave was that on her birthday, she did not celebrate the day but instead was the guest of honor at a charity fundraising event. Many of Kings more minor connection to his own personal life are a big reason that, as a reader, you immediately jump to the conclusion that his stories are semi–autobiographical. Much of King's childhood experience bleeds over into the settings for both Hearts and The Body. King was born in 1947 and was about twelve years old in 1960, the year the story for The Body takes place. Twelve–year–old Gordie (who also becomes a writer) lives in Gates Falls, one of King's fictional towns, along with Derry and Chamberlain, a textile mill town along the Castle River (likely created with the Androscoggin in mind, which flows through Durham and Lisbon Falls, where King lived and went to school). Further, Gordie informs the reader, while discussing the train trestle spanning the river, that the river frequently floods and covers Route 136 in either Harlow or Danvers Junction or both (The Body, 354). Route 136 does run along the Androscoggin south of Lewiston to Durham. Finally, Runaround Pond in West Durham is likely the inspiration for the leech incident (The Body, 396). It sits directly in–between Durham and Pownal, which are the site of the search for Ray Brower (the boy from Chamberlain hit by the train), along with the fictional Motton. The authorities drag the Motton Reservoir to search for the body (The Body, 300). The rural Maine settings used in King's novels help him create an atmosphere to take the reader back in time to the 1960s. One of the points he drives home is that things were simpler then. • 75. Writing : The Development Of Writing The development of writing begins as early as we learn how to write letters in preschool or kindergarten. Writing grows as we learn to read and write throughout our school days and beyond. Everyone has a unique story of his or her writing experiences; some have horrible experience, while others may have mentors that inspired them. One's history, experiences, issues and the process of writing, all plays into how I, myself progress in writing. Many years have passed sense learning to write, that there is little that I recall. There was really no such thing as preschool when I was young. But, like most small children, learning to hold a pencil and writing on wide, very wide line paper by following the dotted line to form letters is how I learn to write letters. While preschool was foggy, third grade contains a small memory of writing. I went to three school that year but the second school our teacher had us write and draw a picture story, mine was about a car accident. It seemed like a weird thing to write about but looking back it must have been a lesson on safety. I may have remember this because I actually still have it. Subsequently, in middle school and high school years I recall writing a lot more. Writing many reports or essay on factual subjects: the first president, on elephants, and "Kill of The Mocking Bird" were a few that I remember. Problem Analysis : Distracted Driving Maud Simms COMM–275–910 Part 1 of Final Paper Problem & Audience Analysis Problem Analysis Distracted driving, the act of driving while engaged in other activities, has long been a dangerous epidemic on America's roadways. While there's a wide range of activities that distract American drivers, texting while driving has become increasingly prevalent, as the popularity of mobile devices has risen since the 1990s (Noder, 2009). In American culture, which has become ever more dependent on cellphones, many experience the desire to always be accessible – even while on the go (Noder, 2009). This desire, motivated by both social and business objectives, leads many to use their phones behind the wheel. Eighty–five percent of Americans, a number ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This dangerous conduct is observed amongst younger drivers as well. In a 2009 survey of 16 to 17 year olds, 26% confessed that they have texted while driving (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). The number of Americans who report being in a vehicle while a driver was texting, however, is even higher (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). Half of all American adults and teens aged 12–17 recall having been in a car in which the driver was texting (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). Just under half of all American adults (44%) and teens (40%) say that they have been a passenger in a car where the driver used a phone in a way that put themselves, or others, at risk (Madden & Lenhart, 2013). This shows that the effects of texting and driving span further than individual drivers and surrounding traffic, impacting the lives of many American passengers. Although cellphone use can provide drivers with various benefits, such as optimized commute time, navigation, and entertainment, the risks far outweigh any perceived advantages. Acts of multitasking, such as texting while driving, divides a person's attention (Konig et al., 2005). This places substantial demand on a person's restricted cognitive resources (Konig et al., 2005). For example, 14% of all American adults say they've physically bumped into another person or an object because talking or texting on their phone distracted them (Madden & Rainie, 2010). There are two types of authority: formal and informal. Formal authority comes with the position a person holds in the organization. Informal authority, also referred to as personal authority, is the power you have because of your abilities and personal traits. In my opinion, authority is means want to control something in your hand. Formal authority means use law or rules to control the store or public place. Informal authority means you want to control something by yourself, nobody help you. "Questioned Euclid 's "geometric principles" of a theorem: angles of a triangle is equal to 180 °. • 104. Analysis Of ' The Engineer 's Lament ' This paper is going to discuss the similarities and differences between two books and an article that all focus on the cost–benefit analysis and risk. Daniel Gardener, the author of The Science of Fear, and Cass R. Sunstein, the author of Risk and Reason, shared many view points and their books overlap in many ways. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of "The Engineer 's Lament," focused on similar ideas as the other two authors, but had a different interpretation and way of presenting them. Risk is often evaluated based on a cost–benefit analysis, which is the underlying theme of the three pieces of writing. Sunstein defines it as "a means of overcoming predictable problems in individual and social cognition" (30). He believes that people interpret risk the wrong way; they assume that if something is high–risk it is low benefit and vise versa, but in reality high–risk usually means high– benefit. Cost–benefit analysis is meant to clear up the confusion and shine light on the small benefits that average individuals might not see. Gardner provided a very similar definition on cost–benefit analysis without actually stating its specific name. He stated that the way people decide which risk is worth preventing and which one is not is by considering "the probability of the event, its consequences, and the cost" all put together (Gardner, 2008: 62). If the cost of the risk outweighs its benefits, the money and efforts set aside for preventing it is better off directed somewhere else. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 112. Teens And Driving : Teen Driving Aria Homayounnejad Claire Barth English 1101 27 November 2014 Teens and Driving Teen drunk driving is all about actions and reactions, unfortunately for those teens that choose to follow in this path of drinking and driving, most of them do not have the real life experiences that are required to make a rational, educated, and safe decision. The social pressures to conform to the "normal" behavior, the bad examples, and the lack of strong parental figures can lead the best of teens down the wrong path. Hopefully, while most will learn, drunk teen drivers are a huge risk to everyone, with the potential to end not only their life, but the lives of the innocent drivers on the road, who for the most part are only thinking of going from point A, to point B, to hopefully make it home to their loved ones. Let's take a look at the reasons these changes should be made, as they are very eye opening and show some very disturbing statistics involving teen driving. Teenage driving has cost more than 81,000 people lives since the year 2000 as a result of motor vehicle accidents. Teen drivers are not always attentive and responsible; friends, music, and cell phone can easily distract the drivers. Although not all accidents can be prevented, if there is a possibility that rising the legal driving age to 18 can potentially decrease the number of individuals killed in motor vehicle accidents than it can only have a positive outcome. There are many individuals that have received their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This usually happens a few days after the accident, which is often a terrible time to make any statements especially if you've been injured and are taking pain medicine. While giving a statement might speed up the claim process, it might result in a problem with the claim if you're not careful. Why Does the Insurance Company Want a Recorded Statement? When an adjuster calls to get a recorded statement, they'll want to hear your version of events. At this point, the adjuster will only have the version of the person they insure. Once they turn 85 years a hands–on driving assessment is to be undertaken every two years and is be passed to retain their licence. Once a driver reaches the age of 80 in Western Australia, they are required to undertake a medical assessment once a year and complete a senior driver's licence renewal declaration to enable them to have their driver's licence renewed. Drivers in Tasmania are no longer required to undertake a medical assessment but are encouraged to have their driving ability assessed once they are 75 years or older. Drivers 75 years and older in the ACT are to provide a yearly medical certificate that states they are still fit to drive. In Queensland once a driver reaches the age of 75 years they are to provide a medical certificate for motor vehicle driver and they are required to have it with them at all times while driving. A new certificate is to be obtained once every year. In South Australia, a yearly self–assessment is to be obtained if the driver does not have a medical condition once they reach 75 years. • 124. My First Year Placement, A Program That Offers Young... During my first year placement, I was placed at Compton YouthBuild (CYB). CYB is a program that offers young people educational and vocational opportunities. The program is open to any youth between the ages of 16–24, who are seeking a new opportunity to strive in life. CYB provides youth with opportunities in community advocacy, leadership development, career pathways, and construction training. One of the major services that CYB offers is the opportunity to receive an academic education and receive a high school diploma. CYB collaborates with YouthBuild Charter School of California (YCSC) and together they incorporate an educational component to the CYB program. Directors at CYB do not refer to their program as a school, but as what it really is, which is a youth build program. Program directors are very rigid on the fact that staff or members refer to the program as a school, the reason being because it affects the type of funding that they receive. This influences the way that we refer to the people that are served at CYB. The staff is to refer to the served individuals as young people or members, not as students. Most of the young people that enroll in the program do so for the educational program. Many of our young people turn to CYB for a second opportunity at their academic careers. The city of Compton can be well known for their street violence and their gang activity. High rates of young people in the area get involved in such activity at a very young age, ... • 128. Big Brother Is Watching You Essay "Big Brother is Watching You," is the famous quote from George Orwell's 1984, where the government regulates everything and the Thought Police could be reading the minds of the citizens at any moment. Many people fear big government; the world has experienced the destruction of fascists, dictators, Marxist socialism, as well as other dangerous political ideologies. More recently, people have been worried about the demagogue that has become our next president and AT&T selling information to law enforcement. It is contended that any problems brought on by a large government are internal problems of self–regulation; for example; the revolving door between special interests and politicians, as well as the problem of career–politicians. Despite the problems that come with a big government, namely higher taxes, it is far superior to a smaller federal government, and far better than a nonexistent federal government, where the states decide laws individually. There are many different political ideologies that purport to be the best, but in the end a healthy mix of different governing styles has been proven to best suite the masses. it is true that big government can be done wrong – North Korea is the most prominent modern example, but in countries like Denmark (known as the happiest country in the world), Finland, and Switzerland, large government, in the form of socialism, works out very well. The neuroanatomical approach to aphasia relies on the localization of lesions on the brain in addition to clinical observation in order to classify patients according to syndromes. For example, according to the neuroanatomical approach, Broca's aphasia, which us usually associated with a lesions on the posterior inferior frontal gyrus of the brain, has cardinal features that distinguish is from other fluent and non–fluent aphasias (e.g. poor repetition, poor repetition and poor naming with good auditory comprehension). Within this model, the general assessment process of an aphasic person consists of: (1) Gathering the client's case history (e.g. a car accident that results in an injury to the anterior superior frontal lobe (in the case of ... In addition, patients have good and bad days, such that a patient's performance on a particular day may be a cause for misclassification of aphasia. Furthermore, a patient can evolve from one classification to another during the course of recovery (e.g. from Broca's Aphasia to Anomic Aphasia). Also, there are varying degrees within a particular classification. For example, Patrick had mild Broca's aphasia, while some patients who have Broca's aphasia can barely speak at all (i.e. severe Broca's aphasia). Nevertheless, the classification system according to syndromes is useful when describing groups of people, rather than individuals, for example in research. However, it can also be valuable in clinical practice because it is an efficient way of best describing a person's aphasia profile. For example, in a clinical setting it may be useful to use a classification (e.g. Wernicke's aphasia), when talking to the client or the client's family. This is because it can give them a reasonable sense of what is happening to them without overwhelming them (although in most cases, it is still overwhelming), and because in many cases people and their families prefer to have an answer rather than not knowing what has happened. Driver distraction can be defined as "the diversion of attention away from activities critical for the safe driving toward a competing activity" (Young 3). The dangers of driving while using a cell phone cannot be overstated, but drivers still use their cell phones even though they are illegal. According to a survey, "About 2 out of 10 (18%) report that they have sent text messages or emails while driving; about half (49%) of those 21 to 24 year olds report doing so" (NHTSA). This indicates that millions of people use their cell phones while driving everyday, and with the increased availability and affordability of cell phones, the risk can only increase. In this paper the topics that will be discussed in regard to cell phone use while driving include the brief history of the cell phone, talking while driving, texting while driving, the part of the community most affected by using cell phones, alternatives to reduce incidents, the laws that have been enacted, and the organizations that endorse no texting while driving. In a time when rapid access to information is valuable, cell phones have bridged the gap between the information and the user. Self Driving Thesis Thesis Statement The increasing use of computer technology in transportation will provide us with much greater levels of safety and reliability––saving potentially millions of lives, and make personal travel and organizational shipping more cost effective. The fear of placing our faith in the "hands" of automated transportation is unfounded. It demonstrates an irrational fear of losing control to technology. Automated systems are statistically more stable and can be regulated to higher safety standards than can manual human operations.
