Celador Films was originally founded in 1983 as an independent company but was later acquired by other groups. It is now an umbrella company with divisions such as Celador Films, Radio, and Theatrical. Some of its most well-known and successful productions include the TV game show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" and the Oscar-winning film "Slumdog Millionaire." As a film studio, its market position is strongest when compared to similar mid-sized studios like Working Title, but it does not have as large an audience or box office success as major studios like Sony Pictures. Celador faces competition from both Working Title and Sony Pictures in the film and entertainment industries.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

1. Task 1 – Media Institutions
An Understanding of Celador Films
2. Ownership
Now a global light entertainment company, ‘Celador’ was originally an
independent company during 1983, set up by Paul Smith CBE and Jasper
Carrott, until being taken over by ‘Complete Communications’. During their
ownership, Celador eventually expanded its radio and film until it was announced
that the company would be sold by Complete. It wasn’t until later in the
company’s life where they had been sold to the Dutch group ‘2waytraffic’ that
Celador completed a buy out for the company.
Later in 2006, Celador Productions offered the rights of popular TV show ‘Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire?’ for sale, intending to sell various other parts of the
company.
Earlier in 2004, Celador took legal action against Disney for screening the show
with unpaid profits, and it wasn’t until 2010 that Celador won the case and was
paid £177m in damages.
‘Celador Entertainment Ltd.’ now stands as an umbrella company for the
various section of Celador, of which Celador Productions is owned by Danielle
Lux.
3. Operating Model
Upon gaining funding from the British Broadcasting Company (BBC), Celador
obtained the opportunity of producing some of their popular shows, such as ‘Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire?’, ‘The Detectives’ and various other TV shows.
After this, Celador Films became a separate division, which they used to make a
variety of movies. From all of the success from each of their new shows and
movies, Celador Entertainment became a self sustainable business, going to
the extents of producing BAFTA award winning movies like ‘Slumdog
Millionaire’.
4. Products
Celador Entertainment has a variety of separate divisions such as Celador Films,
Celador Radio and Celador Theatrical, of which they make a large profit from
their movies and music.
Some of Celador Films’ most well known movies include:
- The Descent and The Descent: Part 2
- Slumdog Millionaire
- Separate Lies
Some of Celador Radio’s well known radios include:
- Sam FM
- The Breeze
Although no huge productions have been made by Celador Theatrical, they are
planning on recreating Slumdog Millionaire in a musical form.
Celador have also created famous TV shows such as ‘Who Wants To Be A
Millionaire?’ and ‘The Detectives’
5. Market Position
Celador’s market position is greatly affected by whether their movies are up to
standard to some of the better movies produced by competitors such as Working
Title and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
To compare, I’m going to be looking at Celador’s ‘The Descent’, Sony Pictures’
‘Spider-man 2’ and Working Title’s ‘Shaun of the Dead’:
The Descent – $57 million
Spider-man 2 – $783.8 million
Shaun of the Dead – $30 million
From this, we can see that Celador produced a movie which surpassed Working
Title’s 2004 hit. However, it failed to come anywhere near Sony Pictures’ ‘Spider-
man 2’ which was very clearly a big hit at the time. Overall, Celador are more of a
competition for Working Title due to the overall Box Office gross, especially since
Sony Pictures is such a huge company.
6. Competitors
Being a company which spans from radios and films, naturally Celador would
have competitors in those fields. Some of their most recognizable competitors
are:
- Sony Pictures Entertainment: Some of their more popular movies include
‘Dope’, ‘Pixels’, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and other films of the likes. Sony
Pictures is a very popular company which makes a great amount of profits from
their movies, making them a very strong competitor for film studios.
- Working Title: The producers of some of the funniest/touching movies, Working
Title’s movies range from ‘Shawn of the Dead’, ‘Johnny English’, ‘Les Miserables’
etc. Although not as big as Sony, they do make large amounts of profit from some
of their cult classics.
