Vascular tissues transport water and nutrients throughout plants. The two main types of vascular tissue are xylem and phloem. Xylem transports water and minerals up from the roots through the stem and leaves. Phloem transports glucose and other nutrients throughout the plant between source tissues like leaves and sink tissues like roots and fruits. The lesson enables students to develop knowledge of vascular tissues through experiments, group work, discussion, and questioning to identify and understand the functions of xylem and phloem.
