This document provides information about CEIP Costa Blanca School in Alicante, Spain. It states that the school teaches 520 children from ages 3 to 12 and has 31 teachers. It is located in southeastern Spain near the beach and golf courses. The school began in September 2005 and about half the staff have permanent positions. Subjects taught include Spanish, Valencian, sciences, math, English, music, arts and crafts. The school has 18 classrooms, a computer room, digital boards, a music room, gym, kitchen and library.

• OUR SCHOOL IS SITUATED IN THE SOUTH EAST
OF SPAIN, IN ALICANTE CITY.
• WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO THE BEACH AND
CLOSE TO GOLF.
• WELL SERVICED BY BUS AND TRAM.
• THE AREA WHERE WE ARE IS RESIDENTIAL
AND MANY PEOPLE CHOOSE IT AS A HOLIDAY
ZONE.

4. WHEN?
• WE ARE A RECENTLY CREATED SCHOOL.
• WE BEGAN OUR CAREER PLAN IN SEPTEMBER
2005.
• ABOUT 50% OF OUR STAFF HAVE A
PERMANENT POSITION AT THE SCHOOL. THE
REST OF THEM ARE WORKING IN TEMPORARY
SPECIAL SERVICES FOR THE SCHOOL.

5. WHAT?
• THE OFFICIAL CURRICULUM IN OUR COMMUNITY IS BASED
ON THE CURRENT EDUCATION LAW (L.O.E APPROVED IN
2006). THIS MONTH, A NEW EDUCATIONAL LAW HAS BEEN
APPROVED, IT HAS BEEN REJECTED BY THE EDUCATIONAL
COMMUNITY. IN FACT, WHILE WE ARE HERE IN CYPRUS,
THERE WILL BE A GENERAL EDUCATION STRIKE IN SPAIN.
• WE ARE A BILINGUAL COMUNNITY WITH 2 OFICIAL
LANGUAGES, SO WE TEACH SPANISH AND VALENCIAN
LANGUAGE IN DIFFERENT PERCENTAGES.
• THE SUBJECTS WE TEACH IN PRIMARY EDUCATION ARE
SPANISH, VALENCIAN, SCIENCES, MATHS, PHYSICAL
EDUCATION, ENGLISH, MUSIC, ARTS AND CRAFTS,
CATHOLIC RELIGION OR ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION.

6. PREVIOUS LANGUAGE PROGRAMES
• Valencian Language Programe: About 70% is
taught in Valencian Language, 20% in Spanish,
10% in English (will dissapear in four years).
• Spanish Language Programe: About 70% is
taught in Spanish, 20% in Valencian Language,
10% in English (will dissapear in four years).
• Spanish Language Programe +: 50% is taught
in Spanish, 25% in Valencian Language, 25% in
English (will dissapear in 8 years).

7. NEW LANGUAGE PROGRAMES
• EQUAL LANGUAGE: The three languages are
used with a 33% DIVISION during all the
education (We have begun this program this
year with 3 year old pupils).
• 80% ENGLISH: This experimental programe is
only running in 2 state schools in Alicante. It
prioritizes English with 80%, Spanish 10% and
Valencian 10%. (We began this program 5
years ago).
