2. WHAT IS CDM?
• The Clean Development Mechanism is an emission-
reduction projects in developing countries.
• Under this, countries can earn certified emission
reduction – CER credits by reducing the amount the
Green House Gases they release into the
atmosphere.
3. CER – CERTIFIED EMISSION REDUCTION
• This was defined in the Annex B of the KYOTO
Protocol.
• Each CER is equivalent to one tonne of CO2.
4. CER – CERTIFIED EMISSION REDUCTION
• CER can be traded or sold for $10 to $35 each depending on the
market.
• The money can be in turn used to meet the KYOTO PROTOCOL
needs
6. EXAMPLE
• A CDM project activity might involve, for example, a
rural electrification project using solar panels or the
installation of more energy-efficient machines.
7. AIM
• Operational since the beginning of 2006, the
mechanism has already registered more than 7800
projects and is anticipated to produce CERs
amounting to more than 2.9 billion tonnes of CO2
equivalent in the first commitment period of the
Kyoto Protocol.
8. BENEFITS
• CDM Technique will benefit the developing
countries to reduce pollution & execute sustainable
industrialization.
