This installment in the Christmas at the Movies has to do with the movie "Elf." In it, Will Farrell plays a human who was raised on the North Pole only to find that he doesn't belong with the other elves because he is clearly not like them. So he goes on a search to find himself, and as is true for anyone on such a search, he starts first by finding his father.
But our topic today puts a twist on this story. As we'll see, while Elf is a lovely Christmas film, in all reality is the exact opposite of what the true Christmas story really is.

To be baptized in the Holy Spirit is a wonderful, rewarding, powerful experience. The Holy Spirit gives us supernatural gifts to make us more effective in spreading the Gospel. Be very careful that you don't quench the Spirit.
How long do you think God had been preparing to send His Son into the world? Was there a specific time in which Christ would be born? Why? How do you know? Do you think God has “set times” now? What is the next big event on God’s prophetic calendar? What amazing thing happens to us when we are adopted by God? What does it mean to call God “Abba, Father!” (Rom. 8:15-16) How does this reflect a change in the way God views us, and in the ways we relate to Him?
The second baptism that God has for His children is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is the 5th foundation stone in this teaching series. How does God display His power in your life? Which gift of the Holy Spirit have you received?

A Christian Perspective on the Cause of and Solutions to CrimeTim Jacobs
This presentation demonstrates how the Christian worldview of sin and redemption provide an effective framework for understanding the origins of crime and how effective solutions can be implemented.
The Creative Differences series begins by presenting the idea that our identity as men and women is found in the image of God himself. While the culture is telling us to not look at gender differences, God wants us to celebrate masculine strength and feminine beauty.
"The Writing is on the Wall." It's a famous quote about a famous story featuring a king whose time was up. But why? Is it possible for one man's actions to change the course of an entire nation? And what is it that really makes nation
The prophet Daniel interprets Nebuchadnezzar's dream that is a warning against his own pride. God uses Daniel for the purpose of getting through the king because that's what God does. God's purpose in the world is his own glory; that is, to make himself known, and he will involve his people in accomplishing that.
The question today is, "At what point, as a Christian, do I draw the line?" In other words, how do you know what hills to die on where you refuse to go along with what the rest of the culture is doing? We're going to find the answer by looking at the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in Daniel 3.
The book of Daniel is all about a man who found himself in a culture that was totally opposed to everything he believed in. How did he survive? This sermon starts a seven week series on how Christians need to position themselves in a culture that is becoming more secular.
As we wrap up our Above the Law series, we're going to look at the final "fruit" in the fruit of the Spirit, self-control. What does it look like, and how do we get it?
When all is said and done, do you believe that what you’re doing is really ever going to amount to anything? Will your life actually make a difference? We're going to look at Galatians 6:9, which promises those who "sow to the Spirit" will reap a harvest if they do not give up!
In a world that is distracted by #llamas and #TheDress, it's time for us to #getfocused! That's what #DiscoverDiscipline is all about. How do we live in a way that keeps eternity in mind and gets the most of out of life today?
Jesus says in Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." It's very easy to love money and thus become enslaved to it, but there is also a way to "tame" it and be able to use it for tremendous good.
Flatten the Ball, Wreck the Team (Eph. 4:14-16)Tim Jacobs
Ephesians 4:14-16 teaches us how to avoid deception and to learn to speak the truth in the love. In a culture that cleverly deceives and perpetuates self-justification by constantly feigning outrage, how do we become people who truly can speak to one another in ways that build up?
Miracle on 34th St is all about faith. Kris Kringle claims to be Santa Claus and that claim lands him in a courthouse, on trial to see whether he really is who he says he is. The question is, do you believe? In this sermon we're going to put Jesus on trial... what did he claim about himself? And, can we believe it? And if he is who he says he is, what does that mean for us?
This is the day we've all been waiting for... where we come together as a church and reach out for what's NEXT for us. Our sermon starts from when Nehemiah and the Israelites complete the wall and the celebration that follows.
You might be standing on the edge of a cliff with nothing but a bungee cord tied to your ankles and a helmet (and, of course, clothes). Or you might be on the tenth floor of an office building with a pen and a dotted line, waiting on a signature that will commit you to the first day of the rest of your life. Or maybe it's the final steps taken down the hallway right before you walk into the classroom where you'll start to finish your education. In those moments, whatever they might be, when the idea becomes reality, sometimes you just have to close your eyes, shoot up a quick prayer, and then say with cast iron resolution, “Let’s do this!” That’s what the Israelites said when it came to rebuilding the wall, and that’s what this message is all about!
There are fortune cookies, fortune tellers, mood rings, palm readers, and even those things you put your thumb on that tell you what kind of personality you have. But none of those things are capable of getting between your soul and your spirit - meaning, none of them can get to the core of both who you are and what you need. The word of God is the only thing that can do that. It's like a scalpel, a razor, or one of those swords that slices through a watermelon while still leaving it intact. So what is the core of who you are, and what it is that you need? Hebrews 4:12-13 tells us!

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
