9. Repent and be baptized, everyone
of you, in the name of Jesus Christ
for the forgiveness of your sins.
And you will receive the gift of the
Holy Spirit. The promise is for you
and your children and for all who
are far off- for all whom the Lord
our God will call. Acts 2:38-39
10. through Christ Jesus the law
of the Spirit of life set me free
from the law of sin and death.
11. Did that which is good, then,
become death to me? By no
means! But in order that sin might
be recognized as sin, it produced
death in me through what was
good, so that through the
commandment sin might become
utterly sinful. We know that the law
is spiritual; but I am unspiritual,
sold as a slave to sin.
12. I do not understand what I do.
For what I want to do I do not
do, but what I hate I do. And
if I do what I do not want to
do, I agree that the law is
good.
13. As it is, it is no longer I myself
who do it, but it is sin living in
me.
14. I know that nothing good lives in
me, that is, in my sinful nature. For
I have the desire to do what is
good, but I cannot carry it out. For
what I do is not the good I want to
do; no, the evil I do not want to do
—this I keep on doing. Now if I do
what I do not want to do, it is no
longer I who do it, but it is sin living
in me that does it
15. So I find this law at work:
When I want to do good, evil
is right there with me.
16. For in my inner being I delight in
God’s law; but I see another law
at work in the members of my
body, waging war against the
law of my mind and making me
a prisoner of the law of sin at
work within my members.
17. What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this
body of death?
18. For what the law was
powerless to do in that it was
weakened by the sinful
nature, God did by sending
his own Son in the likeness of
sinful man to be a sin
offering.
19. What a wretched man I am!
Who will rescue me from this
body of death? Thanks be to
God—through Jesus Christ
our Lord!
20. Therefore, there is now no
condemnation for those who
are in Christ Jesus, because
through Christ Jesus the law
of the Spirit of life set me free
from the law of sin and death
21. Those who live according to
the sinful nature have their
minds set on what that nature
desires; but those who live in
accordance with the Spirit
have their minds set on what
the Spirit desires.
22. Those who live according to
the sinful nature have their
minds set on what that nature
desires; but those who live in
accordance with the Spirit
have their minds set on what
the Spirit desires.
23. For you did not receive a spirit
that makes you a slave again to
fear, but you received the Spirit
of sonship. And by him we cry,
“Abba, Father.” The Spirit
himself testifies with our spirit
that we are God’s children.
24. The Spirit himself testifies with
our spirit that we are God’s
children. Now if we are children,
then we are heirs—heirs of God
and co-heirs with Christ, if
indeed we share in his
sufferings in order that we may
also share in his glory.
25. Not only so, but we ourselves, who
have the firstfruits of the Spirit,
groan inwardly as we wait eagerly
for our adoption as sons, the
redemption of our bodies. For in
this hope we were saved. But hope
that is seen is no hope at all. Who
hopes for what he already has?
But if we hope for what we do not
yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26. In the same way, the Spirit helps us
in our weakness. We do not know
what we ought to pray for, but the
Spirit himself intercedes for us with
groans that words cannot express.
And he who searches our hearts
knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for
the saints in accordance with God’s
will.
27. And we know that in all things
God works for the good of
those who love him, who
have been called according to
his purpose.
28. What, then, shall we say in
response to this? If God is for
us, who can be against us? He
who did not spare his own Son,
but gave him up for us all—how
will he not also, along with him,
graciously give us all things?
29. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall
trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness
or danger or sword? As it is written: “For your sake we
face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to
be slaughtered.” No, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I
am convinced that neither death nor life, neither
angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future,
nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything
else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the
love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
