There are fortune cookies, fortune tellers, mood rings, palm readers, and even those things you put your thumb on that tell you what kind of personality you have. But none of those things are capable of getting between your soul and your spirit - meaning, none of them can get to the core of both who you are and what you need. The word of God is the only thing that can do that. It's like a scalpel, a razor, or one of those swords that slices through a watermelon while still leaving it intact. So what is the core of who you are, and what it is that you need? Hebrews 4:12-13 tells us!
2. For the word of God is living and active,
sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing to the division of soul and of
spirit, of joints and of marrow, and
discerning the thoughts and intentions
of the heart.
- Hebrews 4:12
3.
4. …as it is written: None is righteous, no, not
one; no one understands; no one seeks for
God.
All have turned aside; together they have
become worthless; no one does good, not
even one.”
“Their throat is an open grave; they use their
tongues to deceive.”
5. “The venom of asps is under their lips.”
“Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness.”
“Their feet are swift to shed blood; in their
paths are ruin and misery, and the way of
peace they have not known.”
“There is no fear of God before their eyes.”
- Romans 3:10-18
7. The Word of God “divides” by telling me:
1) Who I am
8. …if it had not been for the law, I would not have
known sin. For I would not have known what it is
to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not
covet.” But sin, seizing an opportunity through
the commandment, produced in me all kinds of
covetousness.
- Romans 7:7-8
9.
10. The Word of God “divides” by telling me:
1) Who I am
2) What I can become
11. I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me
strength, that he considered me trustworthy,
appointing me to his service. Even though I was
once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent
man, I was shown mercy because I acted in
ignorance and unbelief. The grace of our Lord was
poured out on me abundantly, along with the
faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
- 1 Timothy 1:12-14
